Madrigirls
a ca****la, folk and early music from all over the world Madrigirls is an upper voice choir based in Glasgow. If you want to know more, please get in touch!
Our repertoire is very varied and includes mostly a ca****la early, folk and world music. We are available for concerts, weddings, Burns nights, and singing workshops. It is also possible to lease or commission original arrangements.
We were totally delighted (we may have mentioned!) to be part of the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards back in March. Check out our interview - alongside fellow Inspiration Award nominees The Sunday Boys - on how to build a choir in the latest RPS Members magazine.
Our co-directors Katy and Cat have been busy working on a new 12-mvmt piece all about trees for Sing for Pleasure! SfP have a crowd-funder up to support the work, and there's still time to donate! And if you fancy taking part in the first performance, check out Sing for Pleasure's Summer School! (link in the comments below).
ยฃ60 to fund SfP's diamond jubilee commission SFP604 DONATE is a new way to give to campaigns that move and inspire us. It's been designed to make it even easier to make donations using your mobile phone.
Can't believe it's a week already since our Sing and Craft workshop. What a brilliant way to spend a morning. Lovely people, lovely music and some amazing art being made. Thanks to everyone who came, to everyone who helped make it so much fun and to Innis & Gunn for having us. We loved it, and we're so pleased those who were there seem to have enjoyed it too!
"Hands down the best workshop I've attended in a long time."
"The singing-craft combo is a winner."
"This was such an energising yet calming morning. Great teachers, clear instructions, a kind vibe. Wonderful."
"More please!"
Have you ever been to a singing workshop?
Have you ever been to a printing workshop?
Have you ever been to a singing *and* printing workshop?!
Nope, neither have we! But we can't wait to give it a go. Come and join us at our Sing & Craft workshop next weekend.
Songs have been written down or printed for centuries...from medieval manuscripts to broadside ballads and brand new graphic scores. We'll be exploring them all and getting inspired to make some art. No experience necessary, and no need to be able to read music.

Couldn't resist sneaking out of our rehearsal early to make the most of the evening light (and a break in the relentless Glasgow rain โ)
Evening Hymn
Music Elisha West (1756-1832)
Words John Leland (1754-1841)
If you're in Glasgow you can hear the rest of this beautiful shapenote hymn (and lots more lovely night sky-themed stuff) at our concert on Saturday 15 June at University of Glasgow Chaplaincy Memorial Chapel. Free entry.
You could even learn some Madri-harmonies yourself at our Sing & Craft Workshop that morning....

What an amazing list of concerts at this year's WestFest - we're in some excellent company!
Also particularly liking the sound of I Spie from The Telling Music at Websters on 13 June... John Dowland and a 'Spooks 16th-century style' music-filled mystery? Sounds right up our street ๐
Find out more about what we're up to on our events pages or on our website.
WestFest's music programme is absolutely packed this year ๐ผ
Many events are free but some require tickets. Check out westfest.uk for all the details!

Love to sing? Want to find out how to make your own unique piece of art with just a piece of foam and a humble biro??
Well you're in luck! Come and join us for our Sing & Craft Workshop on 15 June. We'll be teaching some brilliant music from across the centuries...from medieval pilgrim songs to American shapenote, 17th century Scottish part songs, broadside ballads and dandling songs. What a lovely time we had in Moffat! Couldn't have asked for nicer people, places or weather - and to top it all off, the weekend we chose to go to a Dark Sky Town to sing a star-themed concert just happened to feature a spectacular show from the Northern Lights... Couldn't have asked for more!
Thanks again to Upper Annandale Parish Church Moffat for having us and to the Well Road Centre for the excellent accommodation - we'll definitely be back ๐
Perfecting our best night sky impression โจ
Can't wait for our trip to Moffat this weekend - fast shaping up to be the most civilised choir tour that's ever been... Busking in the sunshine, lunch out at Hugo's, a concert at Upper Annandale Parish Church Moffat with some lovely star-themed music, a cheese and wine night (best post-concert idea ever) and we're even planning some outdoor yoga ๐
If you're in the area, come and find us!
We've really enjoyed revisiting some older rep for our upcoming concerts at Upper Annandale Parish Church Moffat on Sat 11 May and in the Chapel at University of Glasgow on Sat 15 June as part of WestFest. As well as some of our firm star-themed favourites (we couldn't possibly visit an official Dark Sky town and not...) we've unearthed music written in Lockdown that's so far only ever seen the light of Zoom [*shudder*] and this beauty, with words and artwork by the extremely talented Gillian Eilidh OโMara Artist โจ๐๐ช
It's even better live - come and hear for yourself! Both concerts are free, find out more on the event pages here on facebook or online at www.madrigirls.org.uk
In the beginning
Music: Katy Lavinia Cooper
Words & artwork: Gillian Eilidh O Mara
Recorded by David Anderson 2019
It's and what better way to celebrate than by enjoying 3 lovely poems written by your favourite Madrigirls ๐
We commissioned 3 pieces from the wonderful Emily Hall over lockdown, setting words either written by, or translated by, our extremely talented members.
You can read them, listen to Emily's music AND watch 3 films made for the project by Jennie Scammell - yet another extraordinary Madrigirl - at https://tinyurl.com/Tack-Together

We honestly can't thank you all enough for your amazing support over the past wee while. Being shortlisted for the 2024 Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award is already the stuff of dreams, but the reaction we've had from you lot is on another level.
There's an hour left to get your vote in if you haven't already but whatever the outcome, we've been a bit bowled over by the love there is out there for singing and music - and the difference they obviously make to so many people's lives โค๏ธ

One of the unexpected joys of being nominated for the 2024 Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award has been hearing from former members, and we were delighted to receive the message below.
For us, this isn't just what Madrigirls is all about (and if we could do just one thing for our members, it would be this) but it shows the difference all the many, many amazing non professional groups up and down the country are making to people's lives. We couldn't be prouder to be one of them.
Thank you so much to everyone who has voted for us already - just one day left! We would really appreciate your vote!
