Ever wonder why our "civilized" society is so pro-nuclear these days? 🤔

Clue🕵️ It isn't an accident.

In 2023, the nuclear weapons industry spent at least $6.3 million funding nuclear-crazed think tanks.

Is it worth it? 🤔

17/07/2024

We're sick to the teeth of profit over people and power over peace.

When world leaders invest in nuclear weapons of mass destruction, they pour gasoline on a burning home.

They say it is for "security".

What good is a locked door when the walls are turned to ash?

If the government won't stand for the right thing, we will.

Nuclear weapons of mass destruction are all the rage with the UK government🙄

With civil society? Not so fashionable.

The Church of Scotland is one of many bodies in Scotland opposed to nuclear weapons.

But that doesn't mean civil society does.

The Labour Party holds an unshakeable commitment to NATO and our nuclear deterrent (Secure Scotland).

Disappointing? Of course.

But it lights a fire under us 🔥

There are Holyrood MSPs who disagree with party policy. And a multitude of civil society reps continue to assert the reality of the immorality of nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Election opportunity - A Guided Tour of the Unacceptable - free to view online till 4 July 03/07/2024

Nuclear weapons are the most inhumane and indiscriminate weapons ever created. Scotland is the launchpad and the bomb store for all of the UK’s nuclear weapons.
On 4th July, Nuclear Weapons are a red line election issue, and our next Scottish-based MPs must sign the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge for the TPNW. Check your candidate before you vote.
This film has been made available as a resource, free, on line until the election. When the United Nations adopted a Treaty to Prohibit all Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). Scotland could not sign it, but 44 out of the 57 Scottish MPs signed the International pledge to support it, and every candidate electied in Scotland on 4 July must do the same.
Watch the trailer, join SCND and share its heartfelt message from Scotland, that we should be able to choose to be a nuclear free country.

Scotland: A Peace of History

Scottish CND is delighted to begin work on the new project, Scotland: A Peace of History. This has received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to highlight the rich Scottish peace heritage with a focus on the nuclear disarmament movement. It will capture the key developments that shaped Scottish CND and the wider Scottish Peace Movement and share them with the whole community in a mobile exhibition and an online resource, marking the 60th anniversary of Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

A large display timeline with pictures and explanatory texts will be produced and recordins and video testimonies will run on a screen accompanying the exhibition. A digital version of the timeline and additional materials will be made available online. With the help of volunteers and liaising with other groups we hope to launch it by the end of the year and tour the country in public venues, schools and museum in 2019. The project will offer training opportunities, particularly for volunteers wanting to learn how to make a testimony video. We will include SCND material currently held in our archives but we are inviting members and supporters to get in touch if they hold any relevant or rare materials like press cuttings, leaflets, photos, posters or CND merchandise.

Big thanks are due to the staff and volunteers who helped getting this grant and shaped the idea and to the Heritage Lottery Fund for seeing the merit of such a project.
