Here is a photo of Brian the rescue pup, sent by airmail from Borneo (Brian not the photo), experiencing the tantalising scent of a Pavilion Pizza for the first time causing complete over stimulation and hallucinations. Brian is recovering well with hourly treats and a belly rub somewhere in the Surrey Hills. We’re setting up a gofundme page for Brian with the hashtag to support his speedy return to the dog friendly environment we have up at The Pavilion.

World championships happening at The Pavilion over the weekend. The score ended up as 97-95 over two days as time was called due to bad light on the first day. Both players retired after this game to focus on interpretive dance depicting the turmoil experienced during the two day bout. Join us next weekend for the regional hide and seek finals. Winner gets The Pavilion….

Introducing Domaine Durand Sancerre.
This is the Daddy of our whites collection.
Lively and refreshing, with a clean mineral finish, the palette is a delight for your tastebuds. Sauvignon Blanc finds its purest and most celebrated expression in Sancerre and the Durand estate work in the principle of minimum intervention with the utmost respect for the environment.
Sadly for most of us this one probably sits more in the special occasion category due to its price, but it comes highly recommended so why not treat yourself to a glass? You deserve it.

What better place to watch tonight's England match?
KO is at 8pm, but as it's such a lovely day why not come down a little earlier and enjoy a couple of al fresco drinks in the sunshine first? ☀️🍻⚽️

Inevitably, the wine we find ourselves drinking most of the time tends to come down to price point.
So, a word about value…
🍷 Check out new world options first. If you find something you like the look of it will usually be better value than its familiar and classic old world counterparts.
🍷 There’s a rumour that the second cheapest wine on the list is often marked up the highest. This doesn’t make it a bad choice as it’s likely a popular wine, but it may have been hand-picked because the owner knows it appeals to a wide audience and can fetch a slightly higher price without raising eyebrows.
🍷 If the cheapest wine is highlighted as the house wine, it’s a good indicator that the venue stands by the quality and is proud of the wine.
🍷 Lesser-known wines tend to be less expensive as you’re not paying for the brand.
🍷 Generally the more expensive a wine is on the list, the lower the mark up - so it can pay to go big.
🍷 If you’re in a group, bottles will usually offer better value for money.

For reducing wrinkles and improving skin, the Japanese have been known to bathe in coffee grounds fermented with pineapple pulp.

Personally, we prefer drinking it.

Come and enjoy one of our delectable Blue Mountain coffees from 8:30am.

Hello Zela Vinho Verde, old friend.
Not exactly a new kid on the block, but a favourite we can’t stop ourselves from shouting about!
From family-run winery Cazal Ventozela that’s dedicated to the production of Vinho Verde, the wine is aged for four months in contact with the lees to add texture and weight to its natural aromatics. The keen-nosed among you will notice aromas of fresh apple with floral notes of orange blossom and elderflower. It’s ethereally light on the palate with a slight spritz and refreshing acidity - perfect for appreciating al fresco!
We’d love to hear if the Zela is your go-to choice as well? Drop us a comment below 👇

💥 The Howling Owl guide to nailing the wine selection every time 💥

If only choosing wine were as enjoyable and relaxing as drinking it?

Our new wine list may be a succinct selection of all killers no fillers, but we know the horrible feeling of being bamboozled by one of those leather-bound novels.
Did you know that over half of us revert to our go-to strategy of picking second cheapest on the list?

So here are our top tips on tackling an overwhelming wine list like a pro:

🍷Don’t be shy in asking your waiter / sommelier / bar manager for advice. Be clear on your brief - budget, examples of what you know you like, or what you don’t. They will always be delighted to help you on your wine journey.

🍷Don’t overlook wine by the glass - It’s a good place to look for a shortlist of a restaurant’s most popular styles of wine, which usually offer great value and wide appeal, with the added benefit of being able to ask for a small taste to try before you buy!

🍷A spirit of adventure pays off! Look for wines you haven’t heard of and seek out the weird wine on the list - there’s a good chance it’s there purely because someone tasted it and loved it so much they insisted it be included.
Bonus - these outliers are usually less expensive because you’re not paying for their reputation.

🍷Look out for areas of enthusiasm - if a restaurant has a page dedicated to something particular, it’s likely the person who put the wine list together loves these styles and will have researched them carefully.

🍷Read it backwards. Some more interesting wines tend to be found at the back.

🍷If you’re in wine country, look at local wines.

Drop us a comment below if you've got any great tips you'd add and remember to hit save so you have this to hand next time you encounter a wine 'novel'.

We are very lucky to be located here at the rec with this incredible playing field on our doorstep. Summer evenings are a dream meeting up with friends for a few drinks while the kids run wild outside.

It's for this reason that we have to operate a no glass policy outside - to protect little feet and paws!

We've got some new reusable polycarbonate wine glasses for this season, so no more drinking our delicious wine out of pints (unless you'd like to of course).

Please remember to return your plastic cups before you leave and claim your deposit back, it just helps keep things a bit more sustainable ♻️💚

May we introduce our Horizon Chardonnay Bichot.

But how has a Chardonnay made the cut we hear you cry? We know it’s got a bad rap, but we’re going out on a limb here and suggesting it’s time to rediscover Chardonnay with this incredibly drinkable choice.

This dry wine with floral, citrus and almond notes is a far cry from the oaky taste you might remember, and we think it actually has more of a Sauvignon flavour, which is rather delicious.

The vineyards are in Languedoc in France and practice sustainable viticulture with a commitment to converting fully to organic.

We sell all our wines by the glass (as well as the bottle) at the Pavilion by Howling Owl, so come down and give it a try, we’d love to know what you think?
