You never know when you're gonna need this!
Someday you could be the one to save a life.
I’ve been to the opticians, and it looks like it might be an interesting place to work. What are my options?
There are a number of people who work in an optical practice: the optometrist, the dispensing optician, and usually a number of optical assistants or receptionists. In some practices you will also find a laboratory where optical technicians make spectacles.
Eye conditions 🤝 Taylor Swift = the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of common eye conditions and accessibility features.
A brief description of each eye condition bracelet worn, but to find out more information about eye conditions please visit, rnib.in/EyeConditions.
Glaucoma: a group of eye conditions where there's damage to your optic nerve, maybe because your eye pressure's higher than normal, or because of a weakness in the structure of your optic nerve.
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP): an eye disease that can happen in premature babies (born early), or who weigh less than 3 pounds at birth.
Nystagmus: a condition causing uncontrolled, sometimes constant eye movement (sometimes described as ‘wobble’).
Sickle cell retinopathy: an eye complication of sickle cell disease causing retina damage. It's caused by loss of blood supply to certain parts of the retina (known as ischaemic retina).
Charles Bonnet syndrome (CBS): a common condition among people who’ve lost sight, causing you to see things that aren’t there – medically known as having a hallucination.

Can eyes get sunburned?
Any part of your body can get burned, so ensure that you protect your eyes too. The skin around your eyes is thin and a good pair of sunglasses with UV protection will help reduce both short term risks such as sunburn as well as long term issues such as cataract, macular degeneration and skin cancer.

What are the best lens tints for shooting or archery?
A bronze tint should be used for s***t, clay-pigeon and trap shooting. It is also the tint of choice for hunting. For black on white target shooting yellow tints offer good contrast. Targets may vary in colour. For orange targets use an orange tint. Red and pink tints are good for black and green targets and are also effective on orange targets and for hunting; they also reduce the effects of a green background, grass, trees and shrubs. A red tint can improve colour differentiation for people with a colour vision problem. Tints should not be too dark, as this results in an enlarged pupil, which can adversely affect the shooters’/archers’ performance.
How is a squint treated?
If the optometrist picks up that your child has a lazy eye, they will first ensure that they have any spectacles that they need. It is important that your child wears their specs because this gives both eyes a chance to work well. Some children find their squint eye improves simply by wearing their specs. Other children may have a lazy eye as well and need help to train it to work again. You may be referred to see an orthoptist, a specialist in binocular vision. Some children will benefit from surgery to improve the appearance of their eyes and help them to work together. Whatever the treatment¸ you will need to attend follow up appointments as your child grows to ensure their eyes continue to develop well.
