I never imagined that things in my life would turn out like this and I would be in an English newspaper.
How this artist went from fearing for her life in Ukraine to drawing pet portraits in Yorkshire Kukarina Anastasia Yurievna fled conflict in Ukraine to live in the UK. She is working to establish herself as an artist, as Laura Reid reports.

Since coming to the UK from Ukraine, I have been doing pet portraits. I love drawing pets and seeing people rejoice at my drawings. I draw not only dogs and cats, but also horses, lions, elephants, wolves and other creatures. A percentage of every commission I receive will be donated to the Ukrainian war effort. 🇺🇦

"The Eagle is Falling"
Many people ask me about the symbolism of my patriotic paintings. I think what the two-headed eagle means in this art is clear enough. But who is the wolf? The wolf is my inner totem, which means strength of spirit and defiance, freedom. That's exactly what I see in Ukraine, so I decided to choose a wolf painted in blue and yellow colors. As a symbol of the struggle and courage of Ukraine.
