I’ve been working on getting photos to use as inspiration in a new range of drawings, celebrating native British trees and our beautiful hedgerows. Goat willow, wych elm, hawthorn, crab apple…so many stunning trees in this land. Loving looking back at these and remembering our walks in the gorgeous British countryside last year. Can’t wait to get started!!

Just in the beginning stages of my next drawing commission and it feels so lovely to be creating again! My process is to get the outline drawing down on paper and then to start adding value across the page with a harder pencil like a 2H, 3H or 4H. And then to build on that, layer upon layer, bringing out the darker tones as I go. Ooo and it always feels good to get the basic structure of the eyes done and then to develop the depth and detail over time. Step by step. 😊

I’m so excited to have my very own art studio!!! Built by Gareth Bass Carpentry and what an incredible job Gareth and Ross did - such stunning craftsmanship and attention to detail. If you’re local to Harrogate and thinking about getting a home office or studio built, we couldn’t recommend them highly enough! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We decided to do the insulating and over-boarding ourselves…I say ‘we’ but really I mean ‘Dominic’! My amazing husband has worked his socks off to get it all insulated, boarded and decorated - what a man! And now I get to create in this wonderful space! So very grateful! ♥️😃

19th day on the trot today and been feeling a little weary. 🤪 But one of the things I love when we run the Autumn Craft Fair is getting to meet the people who are buying my work. 😃 Brightened my day to sell a Hedgehog print to a lovely lady….off he goes to a good home. 🦔 And off we go to a good home too! 😴😊

Woodcutter Creations - Ric uses sustainably sourced timber to create a stunning range of chopping boards & homeware in his workshop just outside Harrogate. He’s already had to restock us with boards today to keep up with demand! I bought one of his boards for my mum & dad last year & they love it. 😃

RJB Photographic - Richard & Janet Burdon are based on the edge of the North York Moors National Park & take their inspiration from the stark beauty of wild & remote places in winter. They have an incredible ability to capture simple details in stunning compositions, using light to give a really unique perspective. We love their greeting cards & prints!

Jayne Hayden Ceramics - Jayne’s range of beautiful ceramics have been flying off the shelves this year! From soap dishes to spoon rests, and scrafitto plates to trinket bowls, she’s created a unique & gorgeous range & is busy in her workshop making more items to keep up with demand. Thank you Jayne!

Been a busy bee 🐝 with lots of final prep for the Autumn Craft Fair at RHS Garden Harlow Carr. We’ll be getting everything set up next week & plan on opening a day early on Saturday 16th September. We’ll be there running the event every day from then until 22nd October so we got in a good day out hiking in the Dales yesterday to replenish ahead of starting - perfect!

West Burton is a gorgeous little village in Waldendale, just off Wensleydale. Stunning walks up the river valley as well! Should be a lovely day in the dales...let's hope for sunshine too! ☀️

After discovering my love for art at school, that seed lay dormant in me for quite a few years. But what a joy it’s been to see it germinate and bear fruit in this season! I love that there are seeds within all of us, and in the right environment and at the right time, they have all the potential inside of them to burst into life! Just posted my first ever blog with a few ponderings on this beautiful process. It’s never too late to explore something new or pick up an old skill again!

Seeds of Inspiration - Becoming an Artist Nature for the soul My husband and I were out in The Yorkshire Dales National Park just the other day. Regularly getting out into the great outdoors has become high priority for us. We love exploring the beauty of the land that we live in, discovering some of the hidden gems within the landscape, ex...

It’s a little production line here today! Getting prints mounted & framed, ready for Meet the Makers this Saturday in Pateley Bridge…including a few new dog additions! Experimenting with a slightly smaller frame for some of my prints so we’ll see how that goes. 😃
We’ll also be selling some gorgeous, soft Shetland Wool and British Wool throws, on special offer just for this event. 🐑

Introducing Nala the Cavapoo, my latest drawing commission. Loved getting to meet her today as well!

Having a little trial of selling my greeting cards in packs of 6 (available in my website shop - https://www.kellybarnesportraits.com/shop-front ). Am doing a Botanical Seeds & Seed Carrier range and a Wildlife & Farm Animal range, £15 for 6 cards, packaged in a bio sleeve. I give a portion of proceeds from all sales & commissions to support ethnic minorities in Burma and am currently giving towards a project taking food, medicine and relief to internally displaced people who have had to flee their homes in Karen State due to the Burma Army stepping up attacks against them. Well Dexter was definitely one of my favourite drawings to work on! The person who owns this lovely doggie is headmistress of a primary school where she takes Dexter every day….and apparently the children love him. ♥️ It was so special to hear that she was sharing photos of the drawing process with the pupils. If it can inspire some of the wonderful creativity inside those children, that makes me happy! Thanks for commissioning me 🥰
