Let’s break down this “science.” 🍫
Firstly, any food can help with fat loss should you be in a calorie deficit. You could eat chocolate, a potato or dick for breakfast but the key thing is energy balance.
Burn fat and lose fat should stop being used in the same context too. You can ‘burn’ more fat in a fasted workout, again, energy balance (in vs out) will determine if weight is lost (or not).
This study was ‘ad libitum’ which means “at one’s pleasure” so they could eat as they like.
I’m not shocked with the findings. Most binge episodes come right after over restriction.
I tell my members to aim to get around 20% of their daily intake of foods from hedonic foods. Sweets, chocolate, cereal etc.
Not feeling like you’re on a diet is often great for dieting. When I was on the tonight show on ITV, I made Claire consume cookies every day and she lost 18lbs in 3 weeks.
Chocolate isn’t the problem, it CAN be part of the problem. But not usually the problem.
You’ll notice athletes often consume hedonic foods on a daily basis. Used right they’re incredible to fuel sessions and recovery.
Again, like any other dogsh*t out the daily mail’s mouth overall energy balance is left out.
If I was you I’d leave the chocolate to a little later in the day and don’t have it like you’re a fu***ng dog that deserves a treat for going for a walk. (Who is a good boy?)
Eat it because you’re a human being who likes pleasure from food. Just don’t get carried away or you’ll end up surpassing your energy balance needs and getting fat.
