Congratulations to our Bax Choir and conductor Lucy Joy Morris on winning 3rd place in the Open Youth Choir category at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in North Wales yesterday. There were 11 choirs in the category featuring singers up to the age of 16. They came from England, Wales, Czechoslovakia, USA, Canada, Malaysia and Thailand! We were proud to hear from the adjudicator that our choir's performance was full of joy and and that our singers (age 9 to 13) were performing at an excellent standard for their age. Well done to each and every member of Bax who has worked so hard in the run-up to the competition and gave it their all. Thank you to all the parents who came to support us and to Shrewsbury School for being such great hosts during our trip!

🥈Congratulations to our 4x100m relay team who have won silver at the National Prep Schools Athletics Finals at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham today! Team member Junior also won silver in the 200m final. 👏Brilliant results and an incredible experience for the whole squad! 🤩

Well done to our Year 6 entrepreneurs who came up with some brilliant stalls for their 'Enterprise in Education' event earlier this week. They were all given a small amount of money to buy stock and set up their stalls which had everything from a dino-ball throw challenge and archery to bracelets, doughnut-eating and lucky dips.

Business was booming as pupils and parents flocked to the PAC courtyard after school. Every single stall made a profit, raising a total of £1,360 for our school charity partner, Twende Education For All . The children should be incredibly proud of how they collaborated together and marketed their stalls. 👏👏👏

We rolled out the red carpet for our Year 8 leavers and their parents at last night's Leavers' Dinner. After a delicious feast on the Fountain Lawn, Ed Boase from the hosted our film screening and 'Oscars' ceremony to celebrate the brilliant films that the children made during their leavers' programme.

Year 8 have enjoyed some brilliant workshops over the past fortnight as part of their leavers' programme. Last Friday we all gathered on the Fountain Lawn to see the girls' street dance group perform alongside the boy's samba drumming group. There was a fantastic atmosphere as the pupils showed us what they had been working on with their instructors: from and drummer Pat .

🎬Tonight, we see the results of their short film course with the Young Film Academy at our Leavers' Dinner! We're so excited to see Year 8 hit the red carpet and to watch the finished films.

As another academic year draws to a close, we would like to celebrate the incredible generosity of our Heath Mount community which has supported 16 charities this year. In addition to the bumper packages of food, toys and clothes that we have sent to local food banks and organisations, we have raised over £11,300 at our internal events. 🤩👏

This term, we can reveal that Heath Mount's Colour Run raised an amazing £6,000 for our school charity partner Twende Education For All! Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered at and supported this event - we know what a difference this will make to the children being supported at the learning centres in Lusaka during their treatment for cancer and sickle cell anaemia.

Last week's Magic Radio Breakfast event, meanwhile, raised a superb £772, well done to Year 7 for serving up hundreds of croissants and coffees for this brilliant cause!

We have also had the fundraising results back from the recent Knight Frank Schools Triathlon for Restless Development. Ninety-nine pupils raised an astonishing £9,748 with £2,450 allocated to our chosen charity It's Never You, supporting families of children with cancer.

Congratulations to all of our young fundraisers and thank you to everyone who has supported their endeavours this year!

We are delighted that our drama department has been recognised at the Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards 2024, earning a Highly Commended in the Dynamic Performing Arts Category! 🎭Drama is a valued (and favourite) part of the weekly lesson timetable at Heath Mount and there is no doubt that it helps our pupils develop their self-confidence, self-esteem and social skills.

With over thirteen performances each year, a professional lighting rig and sound system and a design department that is the envy of drama teachers across the land, every pupil at Heath Mount performs in at least one full production each year. Performance is part of our culture and the children’s confidence grows from their first production in Nursery to their last one in Year 8. We are so grateful to Mrs Mann for inspiring a love of performance in our pupils and giving them the confidence to shine!

Year 8 pupil George's heroics on the cricket pitch led Heath Mount to victory in the County Semi-Final against Westbrook Hay yesterday afternoon. 🏏 Our Captain of Cricket showed true leadership as he twice pulled his team back from the brink of defeat - bowling an incredible six wickets for only 7 runs and achieving 32 runs not out as well as a super catch. 👏👏👏

Year 7's Hardy S also showed fantastic form with 3 outfield catches. Congratulations to the team and their inspirational captain, we look forward to seeing them in action again at the final!
Scores: HM 95-7, Westbrook Hay 85 - all out

Help raise £3000 to help fund teachers and resources at Twende Education For All learning centres in Lusaka hospitals 10/06/2024

We had a brilliant time raising money at Heath Mount's Colour Run for our school charity partner Twende Education For All on Saturday. A huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored our runners so far. There's still time to donate and post your congratulations on our JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Twende-Education-For-All

We look forward to announcing the final amount raised from the event in due course. Every pound will go towards helping Twende provide education and play therapy for children undergoing cancer and sickle cell anaemia treatment in Lusaka's main hospital. It is a truly amazing NGO that completely relies on donations and we were so honoured to see the inspiring work they do in person during our Year 8 trip to Zambia in the Easter break.

Year 8 pupils have enjoyed a celebratory breakfast in the sunshine to mark the end of their exams! We have been so impressed by the children's mature and responsible approach to exam season and they thoroughly deserve the chance to relax and make some final Heath Mount memories with their friends. The focus now turns to Year 8's fun-packed Leavers' programme which will include the chance to make their own short films as well as trips to Thorpe Park, H20 Rampage and a residential in York.

Yesterday we took 15 of our Year 5 pupils to take part in Felsted School's Classics Day for an exciting workshop on classical civilisations. The children handled weapons and armour as they learnt about the skill and courage of the gladiators, enjoyed taster sessions in Latin and Ancient Greek, listened to mythological tales and explored life in ancient times! Thank you to all the Felsted teachers and pupils who put together such an inspiring, hands-on day of learning.

We are looking forward to welcoming back our Year 6 pupils who have been on a three-day camping expedition to Penshurst Place in Kent. Run by , the adventure included the chance to sleep in Bell Tents, whittle their own tent pegs, take part in camouflage and concealment exercises, learn about first aid techniques in the wilderness and, of course, make special memories with friends while eating plenty of s'mores!

During the trip they cooked all their meals over an open fire (channelling Swedish open-fire chef Niklas Ekstedt 😜) with some delicious reults! Despite some very wet weather the children showed a great attitude and impressed the teachers with their teamwork, resilience and energy! Well done, Year 6!

Nursery and Reception pupils enjoyed a super visit this morning from author Vese Aghoghovbia who came to do a reading of her book: "Who Do I See in the Mirror?" The children loved hearing the story of a girl called Philly who looks in the mirror and appreciates each of her unique features before concluding that it's what's on the inside that counts far more than physical appearances.

Vese brought along a mirror so that the children could give themselves a smile and make a positive affirmation: "I love me!" She reminded the pupils that each one of them is unique and beautiful - and that being different makes the world a much more interesting place!

Philly & Friends is Vese's lifestyle and toy brand that was inspired by her daughter and "born out of a desire to see children grow up to see beauty in themselves and others, to believe they can be anything they want to be." She specifically wanted to "create a black children's character that kids everywhere could love and identify with." Prior to her daughter's birth she had found few quality children's books that featured a black or minority ethnic main character.

At Heath Mount, we recently invested in a bumper selection of books for our libraries that celebrate diversity and difference and aim to allow every child to see themselves represented and reflected in the stories and non-fiction that they read. The books also give them a window onto other cultures and religions worldwide.

Thank you, Vese, for such a fun and uplifting morning! We're sure your book will be a very popular addition in the EYFS story corner!

🎊Royal Academy of Arts Young Artists' Summer Show Success🎊

We are thrilled to reveal that Heath Mount artworks have once again been chosen to appear at the Royal Academy of Arts Young Artists' Summer Show - selected by the judges from over 21,000 submissions. Year 5's group piece, The Crowd, will be on display at the famous Piccadilly gallery over the summer. This delightful crowd of 66 idiosyncratic figures was inspired by the work of ceramicist Jane Muir and RA painter LS Lowry.

Also featuring in the main exhibition is Year 3 pupil George's 'Blue Dragon', a fiery depiction of a dragon drawn using an iPad and the Pro-Create app. Dhyan in Year 6, meanwhile, will see his humorous sculpture Liberty Ken feature in the online exhibition.

Congratulations go to all of our young artists and to the art department on this wonderful achievement. We have been privileged to have work included in every Young Artists' Summer Show since it launched six years ago.

The exhibition is open to the public from July 16th until August 11th. The Good Schools Guide Tatler Schools

Yesterday our eight IAPS National Swimming finalists enjoyed a very special training session at the . The team made the best of the time and facilities available, working out block settings for competitive starts and stroke counts and completing a race planning exercise. They were even treated to some Olympic diving training in the background.

Next time the pupils swim in this iconic pool it will be the National Finals on Saturday, 8th June! The children, who are in Years 4-8, will compete against the best swimmers from prep schools around the country. Around 4,000 pupils took part in the qualifiers, with the fastest 20 swimmers in each category making it to the final. Good luck to the team as they continue their preparations ahead of the big day!

'Mil gracias' to Mr Martinez and his group of Sixth Form IB language students who joined us from Haileybury to help run our European Market event for Year 8 pupils. After a morning of role-play and language games, the pupils put their French and Spanish conversation skills to the test at our authentic market stalls which sold trinkets, traditional sweets from France and Spain, delicious fresh pastries including palmeritas, churros and croissants as well as pan con tomate and much more. We were particularly delighted to see former Heath Mount pupil Lucy again!
