I've been so busy recently that I've been neglecting my Instagram! So here's a little update from me:
I've spent the last few months making bespoke commissions and stock for shows. I'm so grateful for everyone who's commissioned a piece and I'm going to start posting some of the results ✨
This image shows of a pair of earrings for a lovely customer I met at the RHS Wisley Craft in Focus show, who ordered a bespoke green niobium colour for his wife.
I'm now also currently busy making stock for the Hever Castle Craft in Focus show (12th - 15th September) and Goldsmiths' Fair week 1 (24th - 29th September). I hope to see you there!

I am pleased to announce that I will be exhibiting at GOLDSMITHS' FAIR again this year! 🎉🥂
Week One: 24th to 29th September
Put the date in your diary!
It is the most incredible show and I am so proud to be showing my work there again in the stunning surroundings of Goldsmiths' Hall. Not to be missed!
Exciting news! I’m thrilled to be one of five jewellers and silversmiths to have been awarded a £1,000 Business Catalyst (Small) Grant to accelerate my business to the next phase of growth.
I’ll be using my grant to buy CAD Rhino software, which will allow me to create 3D printed & cast silver settings for my hand-chased niobium 'crystal' shapes - streamlining my workflow. Additionally, I'll be able to prototype my larger silversmithing designs and bespoke commissions. I learned CAD while at university and I can't wait to get designing on it again!
Thank you so much to The Goldsmiths' Centre and The Goldsmiths' Company for all the support for my small business over the last few years!
The grants have been made possible by philanthropic giving from members to the Goldsmiths’ Company Charity’s 1327 Fund.
Round 2 of the grants is now open to UK based businesses in the jewellery industry. (Visit https://www.goldsmiths-centre.org/apply-for-grants/business-catalyst-small-grants)
My next show is the Summer Exhibition at the Sculpture Lounge - the beautiful creative space where my workshop is based!
My work will be on display alongside over 40 outstanding artists, many of whom are also based here. I'm very lucky to be surrounded by such talented people with a huge list of skills in our building - ceramics, painting, woodworking, metalworking, stone carving, stain glass, textiles, sign writing, casting and jewellery making!
🗓️ The exhibition runs over weekends from 22nd June to the 14th July and will be well worth the visit! Link in bio 🔗
The private view is Friday, 21st June from 6pm to 9pm.
🎟️ Limited spaces available, so please book using the Eventbrite link in my bio.
💞 Please share the links amongst your family and friends to help us spread the word about our exhibition. Thank you!

✨ Rocky Crystal Drinking Beaker ✨
This sterling silver drinking beaker was hand raised embellished using the ancient technique 'chasing and repoussé'. The crystal shapes and rock textures were sculpted by hammering handmade steel punches onto the metal. Featuring my signature sparkling rock diamond burr texture that sparkles in the light.

I am delighted to have won one Gold Award, one Silver Award and two Bronze Awards at the Goldsmiths' Craftsmanship and Design Council Awards last night!
My Geode Celebration Box won Gold for the Creative Innovation Award sponsored by Western Beamor & Domino, Silver for (Senior) Chasers Craft, Bronze for (Senior) Silversmiths Craft and Bronze for (Senior) Silversmithing Design! I was also honoured to be one of four nominated for the Senior Award.
The design for this box was awarded the Contemporary British Silversmiths (CBS) "Industry Award" in 2022, and I was given 1kg of silver to make the design, with Ray Walton as my mentor. I am so thrilled to have finished such a challenging and rewarding piece, and am delighted with the results, especially the chased iridescent purple niobium centre. St Leger Stakes Trophy in situ ✨
Beautiful photography by
Andrew Kelly Photography
I was commissioned to design and make the center of the trophy (which is made by a different silversmith each year) and chose to use anodised niobium to add a pop of blue to my geometric interpretation of the Yorkshire rose.
I'm absolutely over the moon to announce that I designed and made the 2023 St Leger Stakes Trophy centerpiece for the Doncaster Races! 🎉
Each year, a different silversmith makes the centerpiece trophy, with the large surrounding silver Yorkshire rose designed and made in 2007 by Chris Knight and team - including Sarah Denny - Designer Silversmith, Owen Waterhouse and Stefan Tooke.
I designed the trophy to be a dramatic geometric interpretation of a Yorkshire rose that celebrates Doncaster’s recent City status, which was awarded as part of the Platinum Jubilee and was officially bestowed by King Charles III. This royal influence is prominent throughout the design, in the sparkling gold, silver and iridescent blue colours, and the crown-like rose thorns that spiral into a gemstone-inspired rose centre.
I'm delighted to have incorporated niobium into the trophy- perhaps the first major trophy to feature niobium. You can see the niobium in the iridescent blue thorns and central ‘gemstone’. These shapes were chased in niobium and anodised at 83.8 volts.
Today I went behind the scenes of the race with Chris Knight and Chris Perry who helped make the trophy. We were in the winners enclosure to see the trophy presented to the winning Jockey and Horse owner.
To top the day, the St Leger Stakes race was attended by the King and Queen (whose horse unfortunately didn't win!).
The race was live on ITV today at 15:35, so you can still see the trophy on catch up!
Thank you to Chris Knight, Chris Perry and the Doncaster Horse Races team!

I thought I'd re-introduce myself as I've had a flurry of new followers recently.
I'm Alice Fry and I'm a jeweller and silversmith based at The Sculpture Lounge in Holmfirth.
I make sculptural metalwork that reimagines geological treasures into fantasy gemstones. In particular, I specialise in the metal "niobium" which I colour using the electrolytic process "anodising". I create crystal and rock shapes using the ancient technique "chasing and repoussé" where I form the metal by hammering handmade punches into the surface of the metal.
I graduated from The Glasgow School of Art with a first in BA(Hons) Silversmithing and Jewellery Design. I went on to study at the prestigious Bishopsland Educational Trust before setting up my own workshop.
Last year I moved to The Sculpture Lounge- a hub for artists based in a pretty valley just north of the Peak District. We each have our own studio space and there's an amazing range of crafts: ceramics, weaving, stone carving, wood work, metal work, stained glass, jewellery. I'm very excited that I've made this space my home. I still have a lot of work to do to make it a fully functioning silversmithing workshop, but I'm getting there. We have an open studios 2nd- 8th July- DM me for more information if you're interested.
Love this photo taken by David one of the lovely artists based here.
After completing the first half of my South House Silver Workshop Trust Scholarship I'm now working on some private commissions. If you want to view my work, I have some pieces available on my website 👉 head to the link in my bio 🔗
I'm very excited to be demonstrating traditional Silversmithing techniques at none other than the world-renowned Victoria and Albert Museum next week!
I'll be demonstrating chasing and repoussé with Contemporary British Silversmiths as part of London Craft Week on Thursday 11th May
You'll be able to chat to me and contemporary makers Ray Walton .walton.13 Katie Watson and Vicki Ambery-Smith
The details are in the link in bio - if you happen to be in London next Thursday, we'd love to see you!
Here's my designs for the first part of my South House Silver Workshop Trust Scholarship
I'm making a silver cafetiere with an anodised titanium handle and plunger top 🎉
I originally sketched a teapot (image 1) and after discussions with Chris Perry .perry74 at the start of my scholarship, we developed it into a cafetiere (image 2) as it lends itself to the tall shape. This change in design would create a challenge in engineering a hexagonal plunger, and a well fitting hexagonal lid.
My design is loosely inspired by emerald mineral specimens that exhibit natural hexagonal crystal shapes. Images 2 and 3 reposted from Wilensky Minerals show some of the unbelievable emerald crystals that this earth grows.
I've also been busy in the last couple of months working on some special commissions which I'm looking forward to sharing when they are finished.
Very excited that my work will be exhibited at a special free event at Clothworkers Hall. ✨ Celebrating silversmithing, jewellery and a unique training centre for emerging silversmiths - Bishopsland Educational Trust.
To have the chance to see my tiara in person, visit ➡️
During the exhibition, there will be short talks by Dr Dora Thornton & Dr Tessa Murdoch, demonstrations and welcome canapés & drinks. Monday 28 November at Clothworkers' Hall, 4-8pm.
Over the moon to have been awarded a 2023 Silversmithing Graduate Scholarship! 🎉
Awarded by The South House Workshop Trust founded by Rod Kelly .kelly
I'll be receiving 4 months of one-to-one training with leading silversmiths .perry74
