We will be celebrating Shabbat as usual this week, which falls on the 9th of Av, the saddest day in the Jewish calendar, when we remember the destruction of Beit Hamikdash in Jerusalem and other tragedies befalling the Jewish People.
So as to avoid mixing the joy of Shabbat with the sorrow of Tisha B'av, this year the fast takes place a day later on the 10th of Av, from 8.40pm on Saturday night to 9.27pm on Sunday. Wishing a meaningful fast to all who are able to ๐
This Shabbat our kahal will be meeting as usual at 9.30am, reading Parashat Balak, followed by Kiddush - all welcome!
This Shabbat also falls on 17 Tammuz, the date of the breach of Jerusalemโs walls by the Romans and the beginning of the โThree Weeksโ to Tisha BโAv. Traditionally a Fast Day, since 17 Tammuz falls on Shabbat this year, the fast takes place the following day instead (Sunday/18 Tammuz). Shabbat Shalom ๐ท๐ฏ๐ฏโก๏ธ
The synagogue will be closed this Shabbat morning due to an event taking place in the area. We are saddened by the recent attack on a local woman and our thoughts are with her family. Wishing a Shabbat Shalom to our kahal and see you again on 9 July.
