Very Important Persons Lunch Summer 2024
A huge congratulations to our 6 VIP Lunch winners.
All of our children worked so hard this term to earn their World Class Postcards. For each postcard, each child earned a raffle ticket for our draw for the VIP Lunch.
Our six winners chose all of their special treats for lunch, a lot of sugar was involved!
Well done to the winners and good luck to everyone for our next VIP draw in December.

Shepton Beauchamp and St Mary and St Peter's School Bike Safety Training Scheme 2024
We are so lucky with the weather! Our Bike-Ability safety training for our two schools started today in Ilton.
Our children learned all of the safety needs for cycling including theory for going out on local roads. They also improved their basic cycling skills during many skills drills.
Tomorrow, the children will put theory into practice as they cycle around the village with our Instructor and Mrs Hallesy.
We suspect there will be some tired legs tonight! 😁
Only 2 days until Iltonbury... we are so excited!
Gates open at 5pm.
We now have a drumming workshop added to our programme and the weather is predicted to be 26 degrees and sunny...
We look forward to seeing our whole community on Friday!!!

Mock World War 2 Evacuation at St Mary and St Peter's
(Britain at War History Investigation)
Today, Hobbit class explored the impact of World War Two on people in Britain and what it would have been like to be a child that was evacuated.
We kept the evacuation a complete secret to surprise the children!
The class decided what they would need to bring in their suitcase, created identity labels and experienced having to leave school not knowing where they were going! We thought about how evacuees would have felt when we arrived at our final destination of the church.
Mary Anning and Coastline Trip to Lyme Regis
Both of our infant classes at Ilton and Shepton enjoyed a wonderful trip to Lyme Regis on Friday.
We were praised by the curator of the museum who said our children knew more about fossils and Mary Anning than a Year 6 trip they had on Wednesday!
Super job Gruffalos!!!
Today is Year 6 6 SATs results day.
We wanted to share how proud we are of all of our Year 6 children.
We have shared a letter to show how much we think of them all.
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Residential Day 2 and 3 Update
Our Year 6 children who are leaving both Shepton and St Mary and St Peter's brought our school bears on tour. It looks like they had a great time too.
The challenges, teamwork, confidence building and bonds of friendship between our children from both our schools has made all of us so proud of all the children.
We look forward to our families sharing stories with us for the things we didn't know were going on!!!
Our teachers will definitely sleep well, tonight... possibly entering hibernation before Monday??? 🤣🤣🤣
Our Iltonbury Festival is nearly here....
Save the date Friday 19th July 5.00-8.00pm
Our mini-fairground is due to be here for another year... come along and enjoy the family show!

Shepton Beauchamp and St Mary and St Peter's Residential - Day 1 of 3!
What a great first day. The campfire and toasting marshmallows was a real hit, nobody got lost orienteering, the team building games were a huge success.
Being blindfolded and trusting your friends to guide you through an obstacle course took real faith and brilliant teamwork.
We look forward to sharing Day 2 pictures soon!
European Football Championships celebration at St Mary and St Peter's!
We had a great day celebrating Euro 2024. We represented Czechia, Serbia, Hungary and Italy and learnt about their countries and culture. Pupils spent the morning learning traditional Serbian dance, exploring the Prague landscape, making Italian pizzas and designing our own Hungarian dolls. During the afternoon, we held our own tournament with Czechia being crowned the winning team!
The respect and fascination our children had for different cultures was amazing. 🥳🥳🥳
St Mary and St Peter's Summer Online Safety News
With the school holidays fast approaching, please see our latest online safety newsletter for parents.
There is a section on page 2 about keeping our children safe over the summer holidays with links to support families with information to keep children safe.
We are seeing rising child protection issues online, particularly when children return to school from school holidays. Most common are:
1) Abuse online from social media groups (Adults and older
teenagers)
This includes common gaming sites where families often
believe their child is playing against friends - NOT ANYBODY
WORLDWIDE.
2) The viewing of unsuitable adult content online that has really
frightened them.
We are now seeing these issues, from children as young as 6, right up to 11 in our Primary Schools.
If any families need any further advice about keeping children safe over the holidays, please do come into school to see us, we are here to help.
Gruffalo Class Summer School Sleepover
We have all had our chippy tea and are now out in the school grounds for fun and games before we go to bed.
We hope for our teachers sakes that everybody goes to sleep tonight in our school! 😌😌😌
Here is this week's newsletter... enjoy and have a lovely weekend.

St Mary and St Peter's trip to the Somerset Museum
As part of our Britain at War investigation, our junior children had a great visit today to the Somerset Museum in Taunton to learn even more knowledge about World War 2.
It was great for our children to handle real artefacts and get to see and touch what they have been investigating since Easter.
The uniforms look great Hobbit Class!
A number of families have asked if we can put our newsletters on facebook as well as on our website, so here is this weeks newsletter!
Just click on each page to enlarge.
Learning to care for our teeth!
This week, our Gruffalo children began to learn everything about how to keep their teeth clean.
There was a lot of excitement at receiving new toothbrushes and toothpaste to take home.
Keep smiling Gruffalos!
Dear Parents and Carers,
I attach for you information about a free Tuning into Kids course starting next week. I have had many families in the past access these courses and most have reported what a help they have been.
If anybody would like any further information, please come and see me.
Anyone can attend this course and you do not need to book to go.
Kind regards,

St Mary and St Peter's Britain at War Investigation
On the 6th June, the 80th anniversary of D-Day, we would like to share one of our family's World War Two stories.
Please scroll through the pictures to see the family story.
All of our children are so proud of their relatives.
We've got babies at St Mary and St Peter's!!!
Gruffalo class have been looking after 9 quail eggs for the last 18 days. We came into school and could see in our incubator that 6 of the eggs hatched.
Staff and children all gasped and smiled on viewing the sight.
Our children then had a chance to find out lots about our new babies. Our children had lots of knowledge already and had worked out for themselves that the chicks had eaten the contents of their eggs overnight. Great thinking Gruffalo's!
We look forward to seeing how our babies grow over the coming months.
Royal Horticultural Schools Gardening Scheme
At St Mary and St Peter's, we have begun working towards the RHS Schools Gardening scheme.
Hobbit Class were busy gardening last week! We have planted honey blueberries and runner beans and will be busy next week planning sunflowers. Let's see who is going to grow the tallest!
Our infant children have also been busy, planting marigolds into our baskets and pots around the school.
We all love the colours of summer!
RNLI Visit - Water Safety Learning
Last Friday we were joined today by Tony from the RNLI. We spent the morning learning about the role of the RNLI crew and we then explored water safety.
The children were amazed to find out that the RNLI is 200 years old, they have saved over 142,000 lives and that they are busiest helping people and animals who have got into trouble on the Thames River in London.
With the summer fast approaching, it is so important to teach our children about beach safety.
The sun is out...cricket anyone?!
Today we were very lucky to have a cricket lesson from Mr Brunt. The children took part in throwing and catching games and we then finished up with a fun game of Crocodile Cricket.
Our children will be coming home with a flier for this summer's All Star Cricket scheme - which will be starting next Friday at our local Ilton Cricket Club.
All of our children who attended the cricket club last year had a great time... don't miss out, book your places straight away.
Our thanks to Mr Brunt and the club for all they do for our community.
Iltonbury 2024 is nearly here!
After school on Friday 19th July... opening times to follow.
One of our children designed this year's logo - we think this looks amazing on our T-Shirts.
This year, all of our children will be receiving a free Festival T-Shirt... thanks to our wonderful Parent Association fundraisers.
We look forward to welcoming the whole community in July... please save the date and come and see our incredible children perform.

Spring Term Knowledge Assemblies
Our thanks to you all for attending our Spring Term Knowledge Assemblies.
All of us learned so much about the Frozen Kingdoms, Titanic, Shackleton and our Magnificent Monarchs!
Our children really enjoy sharing everything they have learned with all of our families.
Ilton's first VIP Lunch!!!
Our first "World Class" V.I.P Lunch took place before Easter. All of our winners had worked so hard at school, following our school rules of being Ready (for learning) Respectful and Safe.
All of the winners chose their special treat foods (a lot of sugar!) and a fun party was held.
Our next VIP Lunch will be held in July. Our children are already working hard to win their World Class postcards and raffle tickets for the next VIP lunch draw.
Good luck children!
EASTER BINGO FUNRAISER AT ILTON VILLAGE HALL
£510 Raised for St Mary and St Peter's Church School!!!
A huge thanks to our merry band of volunteers who put on another great bingo fundraiser. The bingo prizes and raffle prizes looked superb!
All of the money raised, goes directly into subsiding school trips for our children.
Thanks to all from the village who attended, your support means so much.
😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Both St Mary and St Peter's and Shepton Beauchamp's Infants, enjoyed a wonderful trip to our Somerset Museum in Taunton today. The children found out lots of knowledge about Castles and Monarchs.
The bonds of friendship between our two schools is such a joy to witness. On return to Ilton, one of our Reception children asked "Where are my new red friends!"
(Shepton's uniform is red!)
