'Aeolian Harp' by Henry John Lintott (1877 - 1965)
Lintott was born in Brighton, and studied extensively in England and Paris from the early 1890's - 1902. It was at this time when he moved to Edinburgh, where he was one of the very first members of staff at the Edinburgh College of Art.
Whilst working in Scotland, he was a major influence on some of the leading Scottish artists of the 20th Century, such as William Gilles, Anne Redpath and John Maxwell.
Henry Lintott often painted allegorical dream like subjects, where his main focus would be large canvases of women surrounded by music or song.
This weeks feature comes in the form of a beautiful etching of two Cocker Spaniels, by the French arrist Lèon Danchin (1887 - 1938)
Available in our traditionl gallery
The following text is the inscription on this wonderful engraving by Sir Henry Edwin Landseer of the 'Monarch of the Glen'
'When first the day stars clear cool light chasing nights shadows grey, with silver touched each rocky height that girded wild glen strae, uprose the Monarch of the Glen, majestic from his lair, surveyed the scene with piercing ken and snuffed the fragrent air'
This beautiful oil is by the English artist William Henry Midwood; titled 'The Proposal', Midwood, as always, managed to capture this intimite moment with an enormous amount of detail and passion, and in using these two attributes to their most extreme in almost all of his paintings, he quickly rose to fame and became known for his sentimental subjects and views.

Antoine - Louis Barye
1796 - 1875
Born in Paris in 1796, Antoine – Louis Barye was
regarded as one of the finest sculptors of the French Animaliers School.
Although his work was almost exclusively focussed on wild animals, he produced sculptors of an equestrian nature, and also mythological.
The son of a jeweller, Barye was apprenticed to an engraver of military equipment at age 13; after serving in the army, he worked for a time in the jewellery trade. In 1817 he began to sculpt while working in the studio of the sculptor François Bosio. He was also influenced by the Romantic paintings of Théodore Géricault. From 1823 to 1831 he worked with Jacques-Henri Fauconnier, a goldsmith.
