What a winter!
It's been a tricky winter with lots of challenging conditions, which in many ways has been great for teaching and really showing people why we need to have good knowledge and skills to be in the mountains.
I've been instructing on lots of skills courses and it has been extremely fulfilling to watch people's confidence grow in the winter! ๐
And of course Furlough has absolutely loved joining on a few of the days too! ๐งก
Furlough has really loved joining Ella on a few different Winter skills weekends, it's been amazing to teach people about how to look after a dog in the mountains โฐ๏ธ
- how to know what to have them wearing?
- when to put them on a lead
- what food to give them
- how to stop snow balling up in their paws
There has been a lot of trial and error and learning to trust little Furlough so with the information both Jack an El have learnt, we then love sharing that with people who ask!
And Furlough absolutely loves the attention!
Jack and one of our freelance guides Sam took a group of 4 mountaineering today!
Looking at steep ground and observing some very reactive snow.
Lots learnt and them 2 teams had a brilliant day out!
It's been a busy week or so of guiding in the Highlands.
Last week, I had the pleasure of getting out with Adrian and Jamie again. A tough week of conditions as day 2 of the week marked the end of the calm, stable spell we had been having. Scotland really is a fantastic place to practice the skills needed to embrace all the mountains have to throw at you.
Great week of climbing and laughing while dangerling around the place.
Jack has had 2 brilliant days guiding on Ben Nevis, despite the incoming storm!
It's amazing you can always find something sheltered from the wind in the Ben.
So the team climbed the 'South West Ridge' in the Douglas Boulder on Saturday and then climbed 'Gutless' on the Douglas Boulder on Sunday.
The Douglas Boulder had safe slopes with no avalanche danger and the Douglas Boulder also kept the team sheltered from the wind.
Thank you so much team! It was a great weekend!
#
Making the most of a day with the day with the team today first up was Doctors Choice then a quick pitch up Aladins Direct.
The team did fantastic
Bring on more tomorrow
3 great days delivering a Mountaineering Course to receptive and talented students. Scotland, the gift that keeps on giving.
Working for Glenmore Lodge
Scotland really is the best when it shows its colours!!
Lovely day out teaching on Ben Nevis
The team led themselves up most of Number 5 gully and then made a speedy decent down Ledge route.
I love helping people develop the skill to enjoy the Mountains I have such a passion for!!
Working for my good friend
What is your favorite route? One that you will never forget?
Jack has got quite a few but one in particular that he actually just recently climbed was 'The Citadel' VIII:8 shelterstone.
The reason being is Jack climbed the Citadel in summer 3 years ago with Ella in the summer, and climbed it in Tshirts and thought 'wow imagine this in the winter'
It was such a beautiful summer climb and had such a great day.
Then to come back 3 years later and climb it in the winter was absolutely spectacular! Everything a route like that should of been.
๐ธ we're taken in the Alps on a Montane climbing shoot with Kati.
Ready for winter! Because the forecast is promising!!!
We still have a few available spaces to fill, so drop us a message!
But we will be posting as much as we can about all of our exciting adventures! ๐๐๐๐

Drier than expected today on Skye for these Epic 3 ladies to explore some lesser travelled areas of the range.
These 3 are not only lovely company but are experienced in the mountains, to say the least l. WIth Ridge Traverses, triple Munro round competitions, via ferrata holidays and Scottish winte climbing to list some of their accomplishments!!
So, with that in mind, I knew they would be up to the challenge even with some challenging weather in the morning, but magic view in the afternoon made it all the more worthwhile.
Well done lady's it was a total pleasure. ๐

Annie, you were fantastic!
Another successful Traverse of the Cuillin Ridge. 11 out of 11 munros and a classy night's sleep under the stars and moon.
Total pleasure today!!
Today, I had the pleasure of guiding returning guests Jane Julian and Bridge on a tour of the Cioch in beautiful weather.
That is one adventurous 9 year old and some pretty cool parent to encourage her to follow her adventurous hobbies.
Can't wait to see what the best adventure will be.
A classy end to a classy course!
With a great forcast and enough wind to keep the midge away, myself and the guys headed into the Northern end on the Cuillin. Taking in the Uber classic Pinnical Ridge and ticking off our last 3 Munros for the week 11 out of 11!
Well done, gents! See you over the winter.
Phewww what a busy couple of weeks it's been for the team!
So here are a few snaps of what Jack has been up to...
Greg, Ben, Eddy and Paul came back for round 2! Last year the gents spent a few amazing days in the mountains and they came back wanting more this year!
So a day on Aonach Eager in Glen Coe, a beautiful ridge traverse all the way through the heart of glencoe.
And day 2 was on the famous curved ridge which is a beautiful scramble up the crest of one of the most famous and iconic munro's the Buachaille! The most picturesque mountain and world class climbing all round on it!
Weldone team! ๐๐๐

It's both of our favorite time of year! And we cannot wait to kick start the season in just under 5 months!!!
So, no matter your skill we have so many different courses ranging from beginner courses to progressing your leading in winter or maybe your just keen to tick of some Scottish Classics ๐
Ow, and yes of course Scottish winter can vary season to season an we are asked alot '๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐?' But there is always routes to do an places to learn skills from January onwards.
Blue Bird days are amazing but you learn more in your own ability when the environment is challenging I like to think ๐ค

Route number 2: Cassin on the north east face of Piz Badile. 800m TD and we desended down the North ridge back to our bivvi site.
Day 1: We drove from Chamonix for 6 hours to reach Bondo. We walked into the base of the route. Seconds after we arrived there was a massive rain storm and hail with mega lightening.( It was meant to be a dry forcast) . Oh jezzzz did it rain 77.5mm in a hour ๐ณ
Day 2: We woke up and started the walk for 5am. It was a cold morning with obvious wet and snowy patches on the wall ๐ฌ
The route was wet with verglass and snow on the ledges but we had a blast either way. We climbed mostly in rock shoes but swapped to approach shoes towards the top so we could feel our feet again ๐คฃ
Then made a swift decent down the N ridge with the expected rope wrestling on the low angle Absils and back to the bivvy, but not under the rocks tonight thankfully!
*It was amazing to go back and do the Cassin after backing off it years ago with a friend on my first trip to the alps.
The next day we decended and spent some time eating pizza and ice cream on the shores of lake como....
A climb I'll always look back with fond memories. Thanks Mike and Chris for amazing crack and awesome climbing partners.
