The name on everybody’s lips is going to be … Roxie
Roxie is making her stage debut at the age of almost 13 tomorrow night with The Florians’ production of “Of Mice and Men”. She is no stranger to the Florians though as both her mum and dad are members and she has often visited the theatre.
Roxie is playing the role of Candy’s dog and Director Jo Galloway has found her a dream to direct. In fact she’s probably a lot easier than the human cast!
Roxie’s Dad, Steven Kelly is playing the lead role of Lennie the gentle giant who with his best friend George played by Matthias Kremer are ranch workers in the classic tale by John Steinbeck.
You can catch Roxie together with her human co-stars this week, 5-8 June at 7.30pm.

Candy is an elderly handyman who does odd jobs around the ranch. He lost his right hand in an accident four years ago but remains employed in spite of his limited capabilities. He is very attached to an old mangy, stinking dog which he’s raised from a pup. His attachment to the dog and his unwillingness to accept that it needs to be put down is a symbol of his own fears about aging, his position on the ranch, and his life generally. Candy offers to give George and Lennie a large sum of money he received as a settlement for his injury if they allow him to join them on the farm they have dreamt about buying for so long. All three of them have their hopes boosted for a few days as they anticipate the life of freedom and plenty to come.
