💜Norwood House Nursing Home, together with Dementia Friendly Keighley with the support of Bradford Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) Alliance are organising a “Community Care Homes Marathon - Together We Can!”. 💜
On Sunday 21st April, the day of the London marathon, between 1pm and 4pm residents and staff from more than ten different care homes (including nursing homes, residential homes and learning disabilities homes) from around the Keighley area will come together on Church Green, Keighley to collectively complete their own marathon. Participants will run, walk or be pushed in a wheelchair. Completed distances will be added together and tracked on a map of the London marathon with the aim of completing the full 26.2 miles. The Keighley parish church will be putting on refreshments. Each care home is asking for sponsors to raise money for their activities programs and the registration fees from the event are being donated to Dementia Friendly Keighley.
The goal of this event is to demonstrate to the community that care home residents are still active members of society and are capable of working together to achieve a goal. We are also trying to build links between care homes and the wider community. We would like to raise awareness of the importance of varied and meaningful activities for care home residents.
