Tomorrow is Time to Talk Day! Talking about Mental Health isn't easy but this annual awareness day is the perfect opportunity to start a conversation and change lives!
Here are some ways you can ask someone to talk to you without actually asking "are you ok?"
đMake them a cuppa and pop open some biscuits
â¤ď¸Get out in the fresh air and go for a walk
đTry and speak to them on the phone rather than over text
đAsk them if they need any help with anything
đLet them know you are thinking about them
Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is taking place from Monday 13th - Friday 17th November. The theme is Make A Noise About Bullying. Check out this fantastic poster created by MyTime with ways you can help make a noise to stop bullying this Anti-Bullying Week!
Today is World Mental Health Day! đđ A day to spread awareness and talk about mental health.
The theme for this year is âmental health is a universal human rightâ.
Being open and talking about mental health is so important. It can help people to feel empowered to speak up and ask for the help they need. However, starting a conversation isnât always easy.
Here are some top tips that can help from the Mental Health Foundation Website.
If you would like to talk to someone about how you are feeling:
1. Choose someone you trust to talk to
This might be a friend, family member or a colleague. Or you might be more comfortable talking to someone you donât know, for example, through a support helpline.
2. Think about the best place to talk
Itâs important to choose a place where you feel comfortable enough to open-up. You might want to choose somewhere private where youâre less likely to be disturbed. You also might want to talk while you do an activity, like walking together.
3. Prepare yourself for their reaction
Hopefully, you will have a good experience when you open-up to someone. But thereâs a chance that they may not react in the way you hope. This may be for different reasons, like they may be worried or not fully understand at first. If thatâs the case, try to give them time to process what youâve told them. It might help to give them information to read to help them understand. And donât forget to be kind to yourself and practise self-care.
If you are checking in on someone you care about:
1. Find a good space to talk without distractions
Try to find a place where you know you can have a conversation without being distracted. Make sure to give them your full attention. It might help to switch off your phone.
2. Listen and ask questions
Listening can be one of the most valuable ways to be there for someone. Show them that youâre actively listening by facing them, making eye contact, and not interrupting. Questions can help you clarify what they mean and also show that youâre actively listening. But make sure the questions are relevant to what theyâre saying, and not changing the subject.
3. Ask how you can help
Ask how you can help or make suggestions, rather than telling them what to do next. They might want support with making a GP appointment or just for you to keep things normal and chat about whatâs going on in your life.
Happy World Teacher's Day! A day to honour the hard work of Teachers and their impact on educating Children.
The theme for World Teacher's Day 2023 is, "The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage."
Good staff wellbeing is essential for developing a mentally healthy school, for retaining and motivating staff and for promoting pupil wellbeing and attainment. As Teachers juggle a number of different tasks, roles and demands, it is important that they are given the right emotional and practical support so that they can, in turn, support their pupils.
Here we suggest some ways you can promote Teacher Wellbeing in your Schools:
⢠Encourage breaks and provide staff with comfortable areas. Being able to refocus, chat with colleagues, and take some time away from the classroom will help staff to focus on their wellbeing.
⢠Offer staff the choice to take their PPA time at home, increasing their productivity and reducing the amount of work they have to do on evenings and weekends.
⢠Buy schemes of work, even if you adapt them, it will save your staff hours of work.
⢠Embrace flexible working. This can help staff to gain greater control of their work life balance, giving them chance to better manage any caring responsibilities, pursue other interests and prioritise their wellbeing. You may want to offer part-time working, job shares, staggered hours and/or look at adapting the schoolâs on and off-site working policy.
⢠Demonstrate positive wellbeing. Encourage your staff to look after themselves, for example through enforcing a âno markingâ weekend, arranging social events outside of work, sharing healthy recipes or recommending self-care podcasts (to name a few!!)
⢠Say Thank You! It doesnât have to be big or expensive but a real thank you can do wonders for staff moral. A box of chocolates, a postcard saying thank you, personalised notes all make staff feel valued.

Ways for Everyone to Relax Over Summer:
1. Get 9 hours sleep every night for a month â keep a diary about how you feel each day and keep track every day of how you feel - if you do only one thing for yourself this summer â let it be this!
2. Reflect on the past year. You won't be able to fully relax until you reflect, write it all down, and get it out of your head.
3. Read a book, maybe not a âworkâ book, but any other book you want â a biography of your favourite politician (!) or start on Robert Galbraith â itâs not the curriculum â you get to choose.
4. Reflect on the past year. You won't be able to fully relax until you reflect, write it all down, and get it out of your head.
5. Try something new.
6. Actually take a holiday⌠or a staycation.
7. Visit with family and friends â weâre allowed again nowâŚ
