We Are NOT A GARDEN CENTRE!
We are busy tidying up in the nursery from plants to the actual greenhouses, repotting today was the turn of some succulents. One of our main contract growing houses is empty so we’ve cleaned the benches and we even filled our water tank with a special disinfectant for the trade to flush through the sprinklers to clean the benches down and cool the air at the same time and it smells like sherbet dip so smelt good too ☺️
Debbie’s office today!
The weather might be up and down the last few weeks but it’s not hampering our growing for Christmas. They’ve been here about 4 weeks this week coming up so they are about ready to be stopped. This helps the bush out giving them multi bract stemmed otherwise you have just one big bract which although nice not as nice as lots. Despite them only being green they are tell tale signs of which will be red or not. Can you tell? 🤔
It’s British summer but at the moment it means miserable and wet weather so I thought I’d cheer you up with something tropical and warm so here’s some lemons 🍋 and grapes 🍇 despite it being yuck weather it can still grow here in the UK maybe have to be sheltered and protected though! 🫣
A few photos of today from the remodelled area in the entrance done by the lovely creative a hint to more of what’s gone on in the secret background and getting love from his auntie Dee despite being naughty and using the bench as a bed! 🫣
Warning ‼️ not about the old photo of Debbie and me but for all you lovely independents who don’t have children in school - THEY ARE CLOSING FOR SUMMER HOLIDAYS!!!! Our darlings break up Wednesday 17th July other schools may alter slightly but make sure you are stocked up on the affordable teacher gifts. Parents dig deep these teachers have put up with your monsters all year and deserve a quality plant or terrarium or planted arrangement from a quality independent small business 😉
When Bruce decides he’s the boss and wants to lay on the bench! 🤦♀️😂
Luckily for Debbie I keep my wellies in the back of the van so she could wade in without getting her feet wet this morning! Or at least I hope she remembered they were there or she’ll have wet feet 👣 🫣 Think it’s raining in lots of places today so whatever you are doing hope you don’t get too wet! 💦
They may only be young baby plants but the poinsettia’s are showing new leaves in just over a week already 🌱
We’d like to wish the lovely Lara and Ema a very Happy 5th Business Birthday 🎊 🥳 Well done on 5 fabulous years of running a amazing here’s to many more years working with you both- we think you’re awesome 🤩 ♥️🪴🤩

Just to say a big thank you to everyone who supported our Harry on his Hull 10K to raise funds for he beat his target by 192% raising £384 💪 All in memory of his friend Kelsey so thank you it means a lot to us all ❤️🩹
Just a few more kits sent out last week to different area of Hull for making up within local communities ☺️
Poinsettia season is fast approaching, next week is the start! We’ve been busy preparing which means heating engineers in to sort out everything there which also meant we sorted out burst pipes, moving the houseplants, disinfecting benches and then we’ll be splitting the greenhouse up to keep the poinsettia’s and houseplants separated for a short period. Still lots to do but as you can see lots being done already! Ready for the weekend and take it a bit easier ready for the chaos of next week as on top of Poinsettia’s and Ferns arriving we have more bedding plants going out for contract work! 🫣
Bruce loves it when he gets brought treats from edibles to balls 🎾he’s a spoilt pooch 🐾
When you go to O'brien's Nurseries Hull you have to take the time to say hi to Bruce, and give him a chew stick ….. or two, big ones !! Of course he’d eaten one by the time I took this photo 🤣😊🌵
The refill baskets that Debbie did for Haltemprice Crematorium are now returned and hung back in place by Alan.
We appreciate having something cheerful like hanging baskets, planted containers and beautiful gardens can help people through on bad days somewhere pretty to go and have a quiet moment surrounded in beauty of nature
It’s why we are proud supplier places like here and Hull Royal as we know what good they do for so many 💕
The manic season is continuing and all the contract work is going out. Including Hull Royal Infirmary, Hull University and Hull City Council, still lots to go for them both to make everywhere look beautiful for a the summer. Looking forward to seeing the finished results 🥰
New in 🇬🇧British Grown Succulents Sempervivum from the chick charms series and Mangaves. We think they look amazing 🤩
Guess what we are starting to prepare for the arrival of? I know summers not arrived yet but these things have to be done! We where planning these just as you was finishing your Christmas leftovers 🫣😂
Another day where I’ve not got my photos in 🤦♀️ so here’s the view of my ditch and outlook! 2 years ago our garden fence fell down and rather than replace it we decided it was too nice a view to block so we cleared the ditch and I’ve been planting, weeding and tidying ever since. It’s still got room for improvement but it’s getting there my plan is that eventually the outlook will look like the garden rolls into the countryside apparently it’s called the Capability Brown look but I didn’t know that at the time of designing! Photos of different stages first few up to the tractor are recently. What do you think 🤔
The madness of silly season continues we’ve done some big deliveries today including to the lovely ladies and some more private estates on top of lots of lovely local independent businesses coming in to restock and Debbie and Chris filled 2 vans up for some more planting around the city with
Not plant related but as it’s Just a few days to go before the Hull 10k For those of you who don’t know our Harry is running it this year in memory of his friend Kelsey who sadly passed away 2 years ago at just 14 years old. 💔Kelsey had a congenital heart problem so spent a lot of her life under the fantastic care of Leeds Children’s hospital so his charity is for in her memory please if you can spare just a couple of pounds it all helps ♥️ https://www.justgiving.com/page/harrys10km?utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=page%2Fharrys10km&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=pfp-share
Early start today at was 28 C at 8:00am in the nursery. Joint effort on the nursery duties of watering today for Debbie and I both Fred & Lewis where in a football tournament at the same place hence the joint effort watering today! Hope you’ve had a great day whatever you’ve done 😃
We love working with local communities to provide things like hanging basket kits for people to do up as a community then take home to enjoy 🥰
No point having manicured nails in our job! This is my hands after cleaning up some geraniums not for long either - tarnished yellow all day too from the leaves 😅 I hear pastry making is great to get them clean again! Not that id want to eat pastry made using these hands!
It’s the start of the madness of contract bedding going out. Today we did 2 van loads to private estates but only remembered to take photos of first van full. Being half term even the cab was full! Phil had Debbie’s lad Lewis to help him but he took Bruce too so don’t think Lewis will have been any help! 🫣
We are a family business to the core so sometimes we like to celebrate achievements with everyone this time it is not about achievements but support. We are asking if anyone is kind enough to donate to our Harrys just giving cause. He will be running the Hull 10K in memory of his friend Kelsey who sadly passed away 2 years ago from a congenital heart problem. She spent a lot of time at Leeds Children’s hospital even near the end so Harry is raising funds as a thank you to them for all they did and do for others including his friend Ellie so thank you ❤️🩹The link is as follows https://www.justgiving.com/page/harrys10km?utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=page%2Fharrys10km&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=pfp-share
