Emotions are like colours on the canvas of our lives. They come in all shades – some bright and vibrant, others deep and subtle. Whether we label them as 'good' or 'bad,' each emotion serves a purpose and offers us valuable insight into our inner world.
From the joy of celebration to the depths of sadness, every feeling guides us, shapes us, and connects us. By leaning into our feelings and acknowledging our emotional landscape, we develop a deeper understanding of ourselves, our needs, this helps us to move through difficult times as well embracing the good.
You don’t have to be positive all the time. It’s perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared and anxious. Having these feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It makes you human.
Personally, for me, phrases such as Good Vibes Only & Everything Happens For a Reason can serve as phrases that dismiss our difficulties and feelings, though I do get they have a place for some. However I would always suggest acknowledging the feelings and the reasons for these before deciding what to do with these.
Breaking free from a shame spiral often involves practicing self-compassion, challenging negative thoughts, seeking support from others, and engaging in activities that promote self-care and self-esteem.
It's important to remember that everyone makes mistakes and experiences feelings of shame or guilt at times, but these feelings don't define our worth as individuals.
When things get tough, looking for the small glimmers of positivity and hope can help to remind us that life can hold light and shade at the same time and promote a sense of optimism.
This could be a kind word from a friend, a moment of inner strength, acknowledging the change in seasons.
My glimmer today was listening to the birds chirping today, how about you?
Feeling stressed out?
Don’t forget to check your stress bucket.
Take moments to consider your stressors, is there a different way you could manage or reduce these?
Take time to pour out tension through self care-exercise, journaling, unplugging from screens or anything else that will invite a little calm time in your life.
Prioritise your mental health and keep your stress bucket well-tended for a brighter, calmer you.
Feeling irritated is natural at times, but if it's becoming overwhelming, consider taking a break, pressing pause on life, engaging in activities that you enjoy, practicing deep breathing, or talking to someone about your feelings.
Sometimes saying things out aloud to someone else can take the heat of things, sometimes sitting in a quiet dark room is what’s needed.
If this happens to you ask yourself what do you need right now and later?
Did you know I run a late night sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 6-8 at The Tower Clinic in Cookridge?
I also have limited availability on Friday and Saturday mornings too.
Send me a message or give me a call if you would like to arrange a call to discuss how we can work together.
Here is a reminder to slowdown already.
Do things with real intention, what is essential?
Reconsider the ‘should do’ as quite often they come from a place of self criticism or what we think we ought to do.
Rest is equally (if not more) important as productivity.
Do not allow others to discount your feelings.
Sometimes we all need space to hold our feelings.
New Year, New Me? Why New Year’s resolutions can be unhelpful, and how to set healthy goals.
Personally I don’t really set new year goals but I do like to reset after the Christmas period for health reasons.
This article highlights how New Year’s resolutions might seem lighthearted and positive but sometimes they can end up doing more harm than good to our mental wellbeing.
Particularly resolutions around losing weight and associated with shame, as opposed to encouraging a “health at every size” approach to fitness.

New Year, New Me? Why New Year's resolutions can be unhelpful, and how to set healthy goals - Mental Health UK As a society, we use the New Year period to look back on the year that has passed and look to the year ahead, pledging change for the better. However, while New Year’s resolutions might seem lighthearted and positive, sometimes they can end up doing more harm than good to our mental wellbeing.
Happy New Year one and all, it’s going to be a steady adjustment into 2024 for me.
Fresh air and exercise taking priority. How about you?
I still have a small waiting list but I expect this to change over coming weeks and so I will be getting in touch. You can also message me on here too. 🙂
I’m signing off until the New Year, to take some well needed rest. Wishing you all peace and love. See you all in 2024 💕
Not everyone finds this time of year easy. If you're struggling, know that you're not alone.
Reach out to friends, take things at your own pace, and remember self-care matters.
Your well-being is important, and there's support for you. ❤️❤️❤️
Being kind and gentle to yourself includes positive self talk, recognising and stopping the negative self criticism. Here are some examples for difficult days…
I am worthy of love and respect.
This is a challenging day, not a reflection of my capabilities.
I’ve overcome challenges before, and I can do it again.
I choose to be kind to myself during difficult times.
This is temporary; tomorrow is a new day with new possibilities.
Empower yourself this holiday season – it's okay to release traditions that no longer bring joy.
Instead, focus on creating moments that nurture your well-being. Amidst the festive hustle, take time for a cozy evening with a book, a walk under twinkling lights, or simply taking a breath to appreciate the present. Your well-being matters, especially during this busy season.
Know that there is additional support out there for everyone.
It can feel like a pressured time to overspend at Christmas.
In life there are things that money can’t buy…
Quality Time with Loved Ones: The genuine moments shared with family and friends are priceless.
Joyful Memories: The laughter, warmth, and special moments created during the holiday season.
Peaceful Moments: The tranquility of a quiet evening or a serene snowy day.
Acts of Kindness: The joy that comes from giving, helping, and spreading goodwill.
Meaningful Traditions: The unique and cherished rituals that bring people together.
True Happiness: The fulfillment that comes from experiences and relationships, not from material things.
Warmth of Human Connection: The comfort and happiness found in the presence of those we care about.
