In our classed each week we have a different theme. We sing lots of songs, use our sensory ribbons and scarves, listen to some fab music, play instruments and learned how to play in time with a beat.

TAPPING ON OUR STICKS!

This is always a staple part of a Music Box Minis class. I love it and the little ones love it too! I love watching the little ones joining in with this - even some of our babies. Is it something your little ones like to repeat and try out at home?

There are lots of reasons why I do this activity class after class.
Here are just a few:
- Little ones respond well to routine and repetition.
- The musical cues of me directing them to start playing and then to stop.
- Developing listening skills for any verbal cues.
- Anticipating what happens next and developing a rudimentary awareness of timbre, dynamics and tempo.
- Developing confidence and a sense of pride when they actually get it right!
- And we get to all have fun and create sounds together. 💖

How amazing is it that all of this development and education is happening whilst we just have fun and play some instruments.

- Developing confidence and a sense of pride when they actually get it right!

WHY DO WE ALWAYS START AND END WITH THE SAME HELLO AND GOODBYE SONGS?

In a nutshell it is about creating a safe environment for the little ones to be able to feel comfortable and confident to take part in the activities.

Always starting with the same song helps the children feel secure and comfortable. They help children understand the expectations of the environment and know what is coming next.
Using the same songs as part of a routine helps to reduce the frequency of behavior problems (e.g., tantrums). They can result in higher rates of child engagement throughout the class.

The hello song is simple and engaging and includes the names of all of the children in the class. Welcoming them to every session so that they feel value and engaged.

The goodbye song also gives that element of routine. Knowing that the class is drawing to a close and that they will be leaving and moving on to something else afterwards. Both songs help to develop confidence and children enjoy greeting and engaging with each other.

WHY DO YOU USE SONG PEBBLES EVERY WEEK?

We do lots of singing in every Music Box Minis classes but we always include two of our singing pebbles to choose two nursery rhymes in EVERY class. I have 11 different pebbles so this gives us some variety but also that vital repetition. And here are the reasons why:

- Nursery rhymes are such a powerful learning resource in early LITERACY helping with rhythm and patterns of language
- They help with SPEECH DEVELOPMENT as they are language rich so help to provide your little one with lots of new words.
- AUDITORY PROCESSING - hearing (and singing) nursery rhythms helps little ones to discriminate between the different sounds that they hear.
- SOCIAL SKILLS AND BONDING. Hopping and jumping around with your friends in Sleeping Bunnies. Getting in a boat with grown up or friend for row, row, row.
- REPETITION may seem boring to adults but it is vital for little ones to practice all of these important skills in a safe, fun & nurturing environment.

So, it's not just a little sing song, it is so much more!

Did you know if little ones know 8 nursery rhymes by the time they are 8 they are usually amongst the best spellers and readers in their class? And at Music Box Minis we become familiar with 11!!

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CAN’T MAKE A CLASS?

Here at Music Box Minis we completely understand that things happen and sometimes we can’t make classes. So, rather than booking termly blocks of classes we book Flexipasses. Each Flexipass is valid for 6 sessions and as long as you let me know prior to the class that you can’t attend for whatever reason then it will not come off your Flexipass. So you never have to lose out on a class because of illness, holidays, family visits, appointments etc.

Each 6 session Flexipass costs £36. That’s only £6 per session with all of the extra flexibility.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT A MUSIC BOX MINIS CLASS

We all sit on the rugs and each child has their own bag that contains everything they will need for the session - this changes weekly. You can see an example in the picture below.

We start each session with our hello song - where each child is introduced by name and welcomed to the session. We then have a ‘theme’ for the session which is introduced - for example this last week we’ve focussed on the colours of the rainbow.
We will the sing, learn actions and movements, play instruments, use some sensory props and listen to some fabulous music. The little ones will also be introduced to a ‘grown up’ instrument every half term too and will be given a chance to explore.

Within this central part of the session I also incorporate some singing stones which I hide in a couple of the bags each week. I have 11 different pebbles so this allows for repetition and familiarity with these songs.

We then finish the session each week with our goodbye song - again this is to give a sense of structure and familiarity week after week.

Classes are very relaxed and fun. You can participate as much or as little as you like and it is all about giving the little ones new experiences and helping with crucial brain and skill development and boosting their confidence. If little ones want to move around the room this is absolutely fine - there is no expectation for children to stay in one place.
