I wanted to join the team because I love my research and I love literature, so becoming an editor of an academic journal seemed like a natural fit. This journal is a great platform to allow postgraduates to share their interests and findings within a supportive, localised community and I’m thrilled at the chance to play my role in building such a platform even further.
Fun fact: I once had a sword fight in Leeds Armouries
One fact I love about my subject: Plants are alive! They have such a vastly different approach to what ‘being alive’ means that we sometimes forget or underappreciate this.
Hi – I’m Rebecca and I am studying for an MA in Social and Cultural History. I love history, especially studying and uncovering the lives of those excluded from dominant historical narratives. I joined the Leeds Postgraduate Review as I’m really interested in editing and creating magazines or journals, and this is a really great opportunity to combine this with academics and learn so much from the entries we receive! I am really looking forward to being a part of the Review, and am excited to see where the year takes us.
Fun fact: I studied for a year in North Carolina, America, which was an amazing experience!
Hello! I’m Niki and I am currently a second year practice-led PhD researcher in the School of Music interested in contemporary composition. Music is such an interdisciplinary subject so to join a journal that is inclusive of so many fields, subjects and topics is very exciting. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be on the editorial board of Leeds Postgraduate Review, and to help with the fantastic work in developing the journal.
Fun fact: I once travelled for two days on horseback in the wilderness of Kyrgyzstan!
Fun fact about my subject: pretty much everybody listens to music so it always brings up some lively discussions!
Hello! We are excited to announced that we have a new group of join the Leeds Postgraduate Review for the 2021-22 year! In the following days, we will be introducing them one by one, and first off... (Drumroll!)...
Hi there! I am Stefan and I am a PhD student in the History and Philosophy of Science here at Leeds. I read the history of heredity (genetics and all that), moving from Leeds to Oxford quite regularly. I joined the Leeds Postgraduate Review because I am very interested in new ideas, and even more so about them being able to reach as many people as possible. That is why I am excited for upcoming submissions!
Fun Fact about me: I am from Romania, more specifically from Transylvania (though that is not what people usually call it in Romania!). I don’t know any vampires.
One fact that I love about my subject: When Mendel ‘discovered’ the laws of inheritance, he didn’t think he was studying heredity at all.
It’s the stressful time of the year with all the due dates, assessments, essays, while balancing with social life and keeping warm.

This year, albeit the pandemic, we believe, humbly and proudly, but without complacency, that the launching of the journal has been a success.
We hope you will enjoy this issue! As always, we are not perfect, and if you have any comments (both positive feedback and criticisms), please let us know so that we can improve!
Happy Reading!
