Heart Research UK
We won’t stop, until there are no more deaths from heart diseases. We need to tackle this problem head on, and we need to start today. Charity number: 1044821
Every five minutes someone dies from heart diseases in the UK and it’s likely they will impact your life one day, if they haven’t already. Our work focuses on developing lifesaving medical research to find new treatments and cures, delivering ground-breaking training and education, and helping communities to improve their heart health.

Today is Aortic Dissection Awareness Day. An aortic dissection is a rare but life-threatening condition where there is a tear in the inner wall of the aorta – the body’s main artery. It is often fatal, with a survival rate of less than 50%.
Your support is helping to make a difference. We currently have 2 research projects which are looking at faster diagnosis of aortic dissection, and earlier intervention to prevent dissection. Our Masterclass “Surgery for Acute Aortic Dissection”, which trains surgeons in the techniques needed to repair aortic dissections, is taking place again in February 2025.
Sadly, people like Andrew are still losing loved ones to this condition. So together, we won’t stop, until there are no more deaths from heart diseases.
This is Andrew’s story.

“In 2017, shortly after my 20th birthday, I lost my father to a sudden heart attack. My Dad suffered with seemingly minor heart issues throughout his life and despite having some knowledge of my dad’s ongoing heart problems, his sudden death had a devastating impact on mine and my families lives. My Dad was born in Birmingham near Villa Park, sparking a lifelong love for Aston Villa FC. From humble beginnings, he built a successful career retiring as Head of HR at BBC Worldwide. In retirement, he regularly gave his time up to help people, such as driving older people on day trips and organising the Santa's sleigh each year for the local children. One extremely poignant thing that has stuck with me since Dad died was the vast number of people who attended his funeral, which I can only assume is because of how highly he was thought of by the people that knew him.”

The kind donations from Bob’s family and friends will help power the work that our amazing scientists and health professionals do, and will keep doing, until there are no more deaths from heart diseases. To support us in memory of a loved one, click here https://ow.ly/UYOZ50Tgsvi
✨🚴 : Hemal🚴✨
This weekend, we are celebrating Hemal, a dedicated supporter and avid cyclist who undertook an incredible challenge, cycling from London to Brighton for Heart Research UK. 🚴💫
Motivated by a deeply personal reason, Hemal shares: "I am taking on this challenge because my dad recently had a heart attack, which was a wake-up call for me. I want to take action and raise funds for life-saving research to help prevent others from experiencing the same ordeal.”
Reflecting on the experience, he adds: "I felt a sense of pride in being able to contribute to life-saving research, bringing the world one step closer to the dream of a future free from heart diseases."
We’re incredibly proud of Hemal for taking on this challenge as a tribute to his dad. Thank you, Hemal, for your incredible dedication—you’re an inspiration to us all. Your efforts are making a real difference and changing lives across the UK. 💖

Our Story
We are the charity dedicated to your heart. We inspire and invest in pioneering medical research, ground-breaking training and education, and in communities to improve their heart health for themselves. They are things we’re proud to have done for over 50 years and pushes us to do more.
Many peoples’ loved ones are around for longer now because we have driven advancements in prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. We know research works and we focus on benefiting patients as soon as possible. Since 1967, we’ve invested £25m in pioneering medical research and spent over £2m on innovative community projects to improve the heart health of the nation.
We’ve played a part in many of the major developments that we now take for granted and our work continues. From funding six of the first eight successful UK heart transplants or holding the first unique medical masterclasses for young surgeons to learn from world-leading experts, our history is one of discovery and progress.
We’re not afraid to be different. We’re not like other charities. We never stop you in the street, knock on your door or phone you to ask for money. We simply treat you how we would like to be treated and appreciate that everything we achieve is thanks to the time and generosity of you, our supporters.
