Some incredible photos from Manette's 102nd Birthday Skydive! She is the oldest person to skydive in the UK!
Thank you to Dylan Whitehair for the photos!
π UK Parachuting Beccles
How old were you when you made your first skydive?
For Manette, it was on her 102nd Birthday! Making her the oldest person to skydive in the UK!
Manette Baillie, from Suffolk, undertook the feat to raise money for three causes close to her heart - the East Anglian Air Ambulance, Motor Neurone Disease Association and Benhall Village Hall.
She made the jump at UK Parachuting Beccles on Sunday, the 25th of August, 2024. Connected to Tandem Instructor Callum Kennedy and filmed by Dylan Whitehair & Nick Herridge.
Congratulations Manette!
Please join us in congratulating Martin Soulsby on his new appointment as the Chair of The Royal Aero Club of the United Kingdom!
The Royal Aero Club is pleased to welcome a new Chair - Martin Soulsby.
Martin has served as the British Skydiving delegate to the RAeC for a number of years and as RAeC Vice Chair since July 2022.
Martin is a Vice-President of British Skydiving. He was first elected to British Skydivingβs Council in 2008, becoming Communications Chair in 2009 and Chair of Council in 2011 and served in the role for 9 years until 2020.
Martin started jumping out of aircraft in 1982 and has now completed over 5,600 jumps, mainly formation skydiving, with a focus on competing in 8-way, he has won (so far) 20 National Championships, competed in Team GB at 9 World Competitions and acted as Head of Delegation at another 3.
Due to Theo Koutroukides and Wes Guest resigning as Directors, we now have two casual vacancies on the Board. This means we are looking for two full members of British Skydiving to join the Board as Non-Executive Directors until February 2025.
British Skydiving's Articles of Association allow the Board to decide how best to fill such vacancies when they arise and we are keen to fill these at the earliest opportunity. So, we have put an application process in place and after the submission window closes (at noon on Friday 23 August) all applications received will be considered by the current Board.
You can find more details of the application process and the requirements, which differ slightly from the last round of recruitment, on our website here https://britishskydiving.org/council-committees/board-vacancies/
This is a great opportunity for members, particularly for anyone who might be interested in being a Director but is put off by the usual election process or for anyone who wants to test the water before putting themselves forward for a full-term (3-year) seat in the future.
Mary (Chair of British Skydiving)
Earlier this week, we sent out a digital survey asking for member feedback on our current systems and what you would like to see implemented in the future.
The initial email that was sent had a glitch, causing the first names to be randomised. Shortly after, a second email with the correct names followed.
Many members have been asking how this happened, and we are happy to shed some light on this.
You receive emails from us in several different ways. For events such as renewals, these emails are automatically generated directly from PIMS (our membership database program). The survey email and other emails, such as newsletters, essential membership information, and Skydive the Mag emails, are sent from email marketing software.
We export first names and emails from PIMS and add these exported mailing lists to the email marketing software. The marketing software controls opt-in and opt-out preferences, allowing members full control over what types of emails they receive. It is important to note that your membership information, including names, etc, held on PIMS is unchanged, and the error in the email is not due to a mass error in our database.
The emails were sent to everyone correctly based on your contact email. The first name in the text is an HTML function that pulls the first name corresponding to your email from the mailing list. This mailing list appears to have had a glitch, causing the names to be randomised or removed completely. The error was identified, and the mailing list fixed, so it should now once again hold the correct names to your emails. If you receive future emails with an incorrect name, please let us know.
It is important to note that no person or system is perfect, and sometimes errors can happen when sending out mass emails. It is our hope that a future system will allow the integration of these functions to prevent such issues from happening again.
We thank you for your understanding and would love you to share your thoughts on our digital systems via the digital survey. If you have not already completed the digital survey, simply click below.
