You've probably noticed your toddler is always on the go and sometimes you might be desperate for them to sit down for 5 minutes!
But when toddlers are encouraged to be physically active, they learn how their bodies work, build muscles, strength, and endurance, burn off excess calories, and sleep better at night. Exercise also builds confidence and self-esteem, and it gives toddlers a great sense of wellbeing.
Our Founder, and leading parenting expert, Dr Lin Day advises that "Being active is vital for brain and body health and an important part of toddler development."
She also recommends, "Making exercise an important part of daily life" as this "avoids the pitfalls of a sedentary lifestyle which increases the potential for disease in later life."
Don't forget that exercise for toddlers can be as simple as a walk, a run around at the park, getting on their bike or even dancing at home!
How does your toddler like to exercise? We offer plenty of opportunites to get moving in our award-winning Toddler Sense classes, come along and join the fun!

Do you need help with your housework?
Whilst they won't be able to clean your house from top to bottom, your toddler will likely enjoy helping with everyday chores such as dusting, cleaning and sweeping.
Our Founder and leading parenting expert, Dr Lin Day says that "helping with simple age-appropriate household chores builds self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of responsibility, and keeps toddlers busy and stimulated. If they are encouraged and praised for their efforts, they are more likely to want to help again."
Encouraging your toddler to get involved in every day chores helps them to learn more than just how to complete that particular task. It also provides them with the opportunity to:
-re-enact real life events
-Imitate the actions of others
-play
-make sense of the world
-relieve tension and frustration
-learn about shapes and sizes
-coordinate their feelings and ideas
-Learn important skills such as turn-taking, negotiation, reasoning, cooperation and organisation

Is your toddler left handed?
About 10% of the adult population is left-handed, although prevalence is greater in males than females.
You can usually tell whether your child is left or right handed by the end of their first year, though it may not become obvious until a little later and that's ok.
Whilst left handed children often find it harder to use scissors, a computer mouse and other objects designed for right-hand use, they usually overcome these challenges without any lasting impact.
In fact, left handed people often tend to be high achievers or gifted in one or more subjects. Find out more about this and being left handed in our latest blog: https://www.toddlersense.com/lefthanded

Are you feeling frustrated by your toddler's outbursts or fed-up of their tantrums?
We understand. Parenting toddlers can be really tough at times.
Whilst in the moment it might be difficult, remember that it's totally normal for your toddler to have tantrums.
During the toddler years your toddler's brain will develop rapidly and this rapid development, coupled with limited speech, language and vocabulary skills can cause frustration.
Tantrums can also be the result of stored up emotions or worries about something. For example, adjusting to a new nursery setting, moving house or introducing a new sibling.
No doubt you'll have seen your toddler's independence and sense of curiosity grow lately too. Whilst this is great, it can also cause outbursts when they are stopped from being curious or independent!
Like with all things. tantrums will be a phase and should get less frequent as your child grows.
Priority bookings for our summer term open

HOT TOPIC - Potty Training
Are you wondering if your toddler is ready for potty training?
Most parents start thinking about potty training when their child is around two-years-old.
But every child is different and so there is no exact "right time" to potty train your toddler.
Don’t feel pressured to start potty training just because your child has reached a certain age, or because of comments from relatives and friends.
It's best to do it when you feel your toddler is emotionally and physically ready.
If you aren't really sure when it is best to start potty training, these cues may be a good indication that your toddler is ready to begin:
-Becoming very still or stiffening.
-Shifting from one foot to the other.
-Telling you that their nappy is wet or soiled.
-Increasing gaps (e.g. 2 or more hours at a time) between wetting his nappy.
-Showing an interest in other people using the toilet.
-Closing the bathroom door.
-Asking to use the potty or the toilet.
-Following simple instructions, such as “Please fetch your potty.”
-Wanting to wear training pants or underwear.
Has this helped?

🌈It’s Rainbow Week at Toddler Sense 🌈
We’ll be learning a poem, listening to the sound of thunder, signing, singing, dancing in the rain and making our very own magical rainbow.
Spaces available in LISBURN on Wednesdays and BANBRIDGE on Mondays.
How can I support my toddler's speech and language development?
In the 2nd year your toddler's speech and language will likely develop quite rapidly. This is because the areas of the brain responsible for speech & language mature considerably.
But what exactly should you see happen during this year and what activities can you do to encourage and improve your toddlers speech and vocabulary?
📖 Read our latest blog to find out:
Toddler Language Skills: Understanding Language Development As parents, witnessing our toddlers take their first steps, utter their first words, and embark on their journey of language development is nothing short of magical. Understanding the intricacies of language development can help us support and nurture this critical aspect of our child's growth.
We’ve a couple of spaces still available for our 11am Wednesday classes in LISBURN.
Term starts tomorrow!

Tidying up is an integral part of our weekly sessions, and parents are often surprised to see how happy toddlers are at joining in with this part of class.... Why not extend this at home?
Toddlers enjoy helping with everyday chores such as dusting, cleaning, baking and sweeping.
Helping with simple age-appropriate household chores builds self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of responsibility and keeps toddlers busy and stimulated.
If they are encouraged to help from an early age, they are more likely to get involved with household chores as adults.
