Hi,
The university is holding an inclusive practice meeting at 2pm today!
It will focus on creating Accessible Environments for Deaf students and introducing the new Neurodiversity Acceptance Group
This CoP will be led by students who will be presenting on two important topics. Abigail Lavers, Level I Disability Studies student, will present the work she produced for one of her assessments, which focuses on how to create accessible environments for Deaf or hard of hearing students in HE. The discussion will then centre on the importance of understanding the access needs of Deaf students in HE.
In the second part of the CoP, Stephanie Trujillo (Hope SU Vice President Welfare and Community), Lexe Vairy (Hope SU Disability Student Rep) and Becki Zand (Learning
Support Team at SDW) will talk about the Neurodiversity Acceptance Group. This is a new group for anyone who self-identifies or is questioning if they are neurodivergent, no
diagnosis is necessary.
Academic staff, students and support staff are all very welcome to attend.
Please message for meeting details!
We hope to see you there! xx
April is Autism Acceptance month, please keep an eye on our page and Lexe's page for a full calander of events, competitions and information! xx
Hi everyone, Daisy Inclusive UK - is currently planning the PAUSE project - which aims to support women and girls who have experienced sexual abuse, assault and violence.
Please see below for information about the project:
The project focuses on 5 key points of delivery:
Prevention – Workshops delivered in the community
Awareness – building awareness of issues facing girls and women
Understanding – Working together we can address issues
Support – Support groups and counselling for victims
Empowerment – Empowering Women to feel safe and protected.
They said: Our PAUSE Project will help to tackle issues surrounding violence, incidents of sexual abuse, and harassment towards girls and women. We will offer a wraparound service that will support female beneficiaries and community members to feel safe, supported, and empowered to live without fear in their community. We are passionate about creating services that are proactive rather than reactive and understand society as a whole needs to change to make girls and women living in our community feel safe. Building awareness across social groups will be key in making positive steps towards making our city safer.
Daisy Inclusive UK is keen for students and colleagues at LHU to become involved in the project. If society members would be interested in getting involved with the project, please contact Nikki (who works at Daisy and is leading the project): [email protected]
The society wishes to deconstruct some of the barriers students face when contemplating engaging with Disability related activities, so we are now offering financial support to anyone who could benefit from it. Please email us if you would like a form! Xx

Another of our members is running for the VP of welfare & community, please see below for Melissas manifesto:
As a third year Childhood and Youth with Social Policy student, the mental and physical well-being of my fellow students is extremely important to me.
If successful, my main aim is to ensure students are supported in all areas within the University.
I wish to work closely with the University and focus my attention on developing and improving Mental Health services on campus, by reducing issues around access and waiting times.
I want to make it easier for students to access Sexual Health Clinics and receive the appropriate support and guidance. I want to introduce workshops and/or training for consent for all students, especially freshers. I will continue to tackle the problem with period poverty within the University.
I aim to continue running the Nightline service, I plan to work closely with the team to support the service and help them expand it.
I also aim to work alongside Liverpool Student homes and support students with all their needs regarding housing.
I will also work alongside local charities within the Merseyside area to support the students of hope and continue to build the relationships with these organisations.
Most of all, I want to build a rapport with students which will allow them to comfortably approach me with either positive or negative feedback or any ideas they may have to improve their experiences. I want to work with students as part of a team!
For further information, please email Melissa at [email protected].
One of our members, Stephanie Trujillo, is running for Liverpool Hope's Vice President for Welfare & Community position! She is hoping to develop a community spirit of inclusion, create awareness campaigns and many other things!

Hi! Just a reminder that we have a meeting today at 2pm! We will be discussing mental health. If anyone needs the meeting details, please don't hesitate to message us 😊 see you then! Xx
As promised, we are going to be holding a colouring competition! Since our theme for the upcoming weeks is mental health, we have decided on a picture of the characters of Winnie the Pooh, as they have sometimes been considered as embodiments of certain mental illnesses. It is available both to print and colour online - your choice. Whatever you decide, send us a picture of the completed colouring by Monday 8th of February, and that week we shall post them on social media and we will announce the winner on the following Monday the 15th February. The winner will be presented with a copy of the first book we are going to read for our upcoming Bookclub, which we can reveal will be Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig! We will contact the winner to arrange the receipt of their prize. The competition is entirely optional, it's just meant to be a bit of fun to take away a bit from the stress of uni, but no worries if colouring is not your thing. I hope some of you will join us! Here's the link to the colouring: http://www.supercoloring.com/coloring-pages/pooh-rabbit-owl-tigger-roo-and-eeyore?fbclid=IwAR19J5TyibVq57Gww9I7l2CIDPSaCsgL2GjtiTDX2Ywui0hymQf4YoA-Blg
