Wine & Such
Focusing on natural wines, traditional ciders, and craft vermouths. Drinking better every day!
Can you Adam n'Eve it?
After all the omnishambles of the last seven months of a legal dispute with our landlord, we are actually moving back into the 17 Burnt Ash Hill shop in Lee.
We never actually wanted to leave.
The shop was going well, and our reason for trying to use our break notice was simply down to one world-class jerkface, but we don't want to be dwelling in the poop-de-poop motivations of unethical landlords. What we really want to do is provide you with an awesome destination once again for wine (& such stuff). Wines that would normally grace the most fantastic restaurants in London, which you can have from us at retail prices!
This will be even better.. oh and thank you
We officially got the keys back to the premises a few days ago, and in that short time have been beavering away with power tools, paint rollers and letting our lovely small business neighbours know that we are moving back in. We've also had the chance to bump into some of our amazing customers in the few days - to say that your kind words, pep-talks and offers of help have kept us going is a massive understatement. You may also notice we have had a little rebrand, which we are very excited about.
Here is the essential info:
Reopening - Softish relaunch 22nd August for the Bank Holiday weekend.
(We may even be open before, so keep an eye out)
Hours - Will be updated on Google Maps and the website.
Fully reopening - 6th September. Why? Because we are going to take a few days at the end of August to clear our minds.
In the meantime check out our new spruced up website! Thanks for the awesome new look!
Well. There's a lot to post about the shop, but I can't yet.
So instead on this first really sunny day I found myself wanting rosé and having none of mine in the house. So off to Tesco it was. Went for this Rosé D'Anjou and am very pleased.
Blend of grolleau and gamay. 10.5% and ever so slightly off dry, with a nice saline finish. More depth of red berry and grapefruit, soft tannins, and gentle floral notes.
Ok that's enough free PR for Tesco.
I really want the wine shop to be open. Please cross all your fingers and toes it'll be very soon.
🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🥲😃🍷🍷
That's all folks! 👋
We are officially closed until we get keys to the new shop and spruce it up.
Thank you to everyone who came down on Saturday and cleared the shelves out. You have certainly made my packing easier.

Steph's Christmas Wines
Ever wonder what a wine shop owner drinks for Christmas?
Here is the line up
Start off the day with Champalou Vouvray ~ Traditional Method chenin blanc that's bright with stone fruit and a subtle curry leaf aroma.
Then Cantavento Malvasia. I love Malvasia. Aromatic and floral, but oak means there's a lovely baked apple crumble thing going on here along with toffee vanilla.
Golden Mullet Fury next, because I need to have a 'Steph' wine. This is an orange from Australia. Semilon and botrytis riesling 12 months on its lees then 12 months in foudre. Big rich and punchy, with tropical notes, mint, preserved lemon and stone fruits.
Finally end with Melogna. From Campania a blend of Piedirosso and Tramonti from vines so old they look like trees. Spices! Cinnamon, cassia, clove and sandalwood. Aromas of Christmas in a red wine.
Now to find some bottles for the rest of the family to have...
White vs Red: Christmas Dinner Edition!
On the left we have our Italian 'Le Oche' from Marche - a rich white with intense herbs, caramel, apricots and a citrus nose to lift the palette. A fantastically fragrant Chardonnay alternative with enough body to pair with your Christmas turkey.
On the right we have our classic Saint-Amour French Beaujolais - 50 year old vines with semi-carbonic maceration that brings out wonderfully juicy notes of blueberry, raspberry and a cedar and liquorice edge to round it off.
Both are fantastic painting options for the Christmas day dinner - which one would you choose?
Poppy's Picks: Need to get a last-minute Christmas bottle? Have no idea what they like? Introducing: Masia d'Or from Penedès, Spain! The name 'Cava' evokes a variety of reactions, but with a blend of both young and old vintage Cava and a palette of baked apple, pear, petrichor and pastry, this one is to die for. Super dry and indulgently rich, anyone would be pleased to receive a bottle of this. Come grab this classy cava for £18.50!

VINO VISION
Our blind tasting fundraiser kicks off this Saturday.
Here is how it will work and also footage of me being absolutely rubbish at blind tasting. 🫣🫣
Remember, ALL procees benefit
The next bottle in the Vino Vision prize basket is Coyam from Emiliana.
Emiliana's iconic blend. We were lucky enough to visit Emiliana back in 2020, and I had been seeking out their wines since we opened the shop, and was estatic when I finally tracked them down!
They are one of Chile's most exciting producers and pioneers in organic and biodynamic winemaking. Since 1998, they've been producing award-winning wines from almost 1,000 hectares of vineyards in prime sites including Casablanca, Maipo, Cachapoal, Colchagua and Bio Bio. Natural leaning, but with preciseness and purity.
When we were there visiting, two sommelliers from a Peruvian Michelin star restaurant were on our tour, and they told us to MAKE SURE we tried Coyam and so we did. And we loved it.
This wine is hugely evocative of the best Chilean reds, largely down to Emiliana’s belief in Carménère which forms a third of this blend. The rest of the blend evolves each year but Carménère is the predominant profile. A nose of the very classically leafy Carménère and Cabernet family with some natural charcoal and tarry notes. The palate is deeply expressive of the blend with a tightly grained oak structure. Rich and packed with complex fruit character.
Drink it now, or stick it away for years to evolve.
The name Coyam comes from the forests of native oaks that surround Emiliana's main vineyard, the organic and biodynamic property of the Guilisasti family.
Thank you to for the donation!
Vino Vision, our charity blind tasting fundraiser starts next Saturday, Nov 25th. Make sure you get down to see if you have what it takes! And get in the running to win the ridicuous basket of wines. One of the wines is the remarkable Fundo Union Pais from Roberto Henriquez. As you know, I f*cking love Pais. And this one is really something special.
From the costal area of the Itata Valley, these are 100 year old organic Pais vines, just 8km from the sea. Naturally feremented, then aged in 10 year old oak barrels. Unfiltered.
Delicious.
Roberto is part of the very small-scale, zero-input agriculture and winemaking community of the Old South: the old farmers work traditionally, having never used chemicals. However nowadays, the Chilean culture doesn’t pay much importance to historic winemaking, and he felt he had to do something to try and keep tradition alive. People actively seek out his wines (we have the Rivera del Notro on the shelf if you want to give one of his wines a try now). so this is a super awesome bottle. Thank you to for the donation!
ALL proceeds to benefit the 999 Club in Deptford, so come give it a few goes and get your name in the raffle to win!

A Charity Blind Tasting Challenge
That's right, this year for our holiday fundraiser we are challenging you to a blind tasting. All the proceeds will go to The 999 Club in Deptford. Our goal is to raise over £200 but we need you to come take part in order to do so!
For £2, see if you can guess the wine (it's one from our shelves, so very likely you may have had it before). Enter as many times as you want, it only increases your chances of winning!
If you guess right, you go into the raffle to win an INSANE wine basket worth over £200 (hell, I am trying to see if I can enter my own challenge just to win it!). I will be posting the details of the wines in the run up to our first day to get you excited.
Don't worry if you don't get it right, we will have a runner up raffle as well.
This challenge will take place every Saturday starting Nov 25th through Dec 23rd. A new wine each time.
So what do you think? Do you have it in you to take the challenge and raise some money for a really worthy cause?
And a big thank you to our suppliers who have kindly donated the winner's prize with some some seriously awesome wines.
Thank you to everyone who came down for our final tasting, Greatest Hits!
A lovely group as usual, delicious wines (duh!), and lots of cheese.
And big whoop to for giving her first wine presentation. 🙌👏
Well done to too, but considering your day job is talking and entertaining we knew you'd smash it.
Now onto the Holiday events. Email coming this afternoon so if you aren't signed up to our mailing list head to the website and get yourself on the list!

(and that's not even all of them, there's more coming today!)
The shelves have had a big reshuffle for the colder months and upcoming holidays, so get yourself down here and see what's new.
You only have two more months before we have to move🥲, so take advantage while you can.
You can also view all our wines on the website if you fancy a gander. Just click on Our Wines in the bio.
Poppy's Pick of the Week: Fratelli Felix
Felix is a super fun orange wine! Only three days on skin, so it has some tannins but not too much. Once poured, you will notice its lovely amber colour and catch its floral, apple and burnt orange notes on the nose. Very complex. This is a fantastic option for those who want to dip their toes into the world of skin-contact wine.
Poppy's Pick of the week: Crazy Javali
- Dangerously quaffable, Crazy Javali is my perfect light-bodied red. With low tannins and a med-high acidity, it has a delightful balance of red berries with a tart, crisp finish. If you love cranberries like me, this is the wine for you. Keep it chilled to bring out its best qualities!

Poppy's Pick of the week: 40/40 Otro Andar
- I didn't realize how much I loved Malbec until I tried this wine! Thanks to the malolactic fermentation and the year on French oak, this Malbec is silky smooth whilst still having the plush, dark forest fruit quality the Argentinian wine is known for. An elegant classic that can be enjoyed on its own or with a wee cheeseboard.
Well...we didn't event get to post this tasting on Instagram before it was sold out.

Your
Reds
today before cracking them open. 27°c wine is never enjoyable. 🥵
Cheers to inviting us down for a visit and for organising
Cheers to many laughs, being terrible at Kubb, and sharing the passion with a great group!
And really in love with this Pinot Noir Henner's has made exclusively for Moreno. Everything I want out of Pinot. Refreshing, juicy, fun, and quaffable. Goes down so well slightly chilled and with some BBQ lamb.
Great getting to visit English vineyards and see them really hitting their stride.
Oh, my fellow wine enthusiasts, gather 'round,
We're gonna taste some Big Reds that'll astound!
I'm here to tell you 'bout a tasting so fine,
With wines so bold, they'll blow your mind!
I like big reds, and I cannot lie,
These wines are bold, I won't even try to deny.
When a Cabernet walks in with a deep, dark hue,
And a Syrah's got that spicy kick too,
You get excited, can't help but cheer,
'Cause big red wines, my friends, are why we're here!
From Bordeaux to Napa, they're rich and divine,
So let's savor these flavors, one glass at a time.
The nose is intense, with aromas so grand,
Blackberries, vanilla, and earth in the land.
They're aged in oak, so you'll get that sweet kiss,
With tannins so smooth, it's pure wine bliss.
So if you like your wines with a lot of attack,
Come to this tasting and don't look back.
We'll sip, we'll savor, we'll have a ball,
'Cause when it comes to Big Reds, we love 'em all!
Head to the website to book online, tickets are going fast!
