On Tower Hill, The Merchant Navy Memorial bears 36,000 names of civilian men and women aged 13 to 74, representing more than 100 nations. They died in British merchant service during the two World Wars or the Falklands Campaign, with the sea as their grave. We appreciate the way Transport for London pays tribute.

On , we honour the brave heroes who served in the Royal Navy, and the commissioned during both World Wars and other conflicts. We remember their sacrifice and those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Today, we remember the thousands of lost in wars and their loved ones.

The Seafarers’ Charity

Wishing all our seafarers a Happy Merchant Navy Day. Today, we celebrate all the hard work and dedication you show in your careers and service out at sea. We support The Seafarers’ Charity today as they shine a light on the important work of our seafarers and the contribution they make to our global economy. We are joining them in celebrating the faces behind the Red Ensign and raising the flag on Merchant Navy Day.

To show our support for , we will be holding a 'Fly the Red Ensign' service at the council offices in Farnborough this Sunday, 3 September, at 10.30am, hosted by the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Clive Grattan. The annual campaign is run by The Seafarers’ Charity to honour and remember the sacrifices of the often-forgotten and invisible, but very hard-working Merchant Navy seafarers. The outdoor service is open to all who want to join us. We will also by flying a flag over the weekend at the Princes Hall, Aldershot.
