~ the art of design ~

~ One more milestone ~

This might just be the only time I sat (though not literally). I guess you know what i mean, the satisfaction that one gets when a project is complete and to look back and remember the days of all the rubble and chaos.

The serenity that I can feel in this picture is in contrast to the months spent on putting together sometimes impossible tasks together.

In its own right this is a symphony after all.

~ take a seat | bespoke bench ~

Whilst working on any design scheme we always try to infuse elements that are functional, meaningful, sustainable, comfortable, luxurious, and yet affordable. This bespoke bench can seat upto four people, upholstered in boucle fabric with matching cushions was a perfect addition. Swipe to see 👉🏻

~ How keen are you on sustainability when you are thinking of your renovations? ~

Does your designer & builder provide you with options that are less harmful to nature.

Infact for this room I could (and later I will) write a whole blog, the choices have all come out of our clear intent on shying away from chemical based, unsustainable materials and texture choices. It does not cost the earth but a clever mix of different materials creates the wow factor. Here you see a bespoke table out of sustainable timbers with traditional dovetail joints. Rattan chairs and the jute rug further enhance the scheme while still keeping to the theme of healthy and sustainable choices. The pendant light is to me the masterpiece its soft Tyvek diffuser represents a material both durable and soft – whilst being 100% recyclable. Project Pimlico ~ Living room ~ Minimalist design + Wabi-Sabi

This is indeed the heart of this flat (not sure if you will agree 😄 as the dining and bathroom are breathtaking as well ❤️). But in the coming together of this space, each element reflects a comfort you desire yet feels so luxurious as if you are living in a page out of a magazine. The client brief was clear but there if often that gap between vision and reality that comes down to you as a designer to fulfill. Humbled by the final output 😍

~ Symphony of the swatches ~

Whilst working on any project there are zillions of things to get right. Material coordination is one key element in that. For this project we have selected and rejected scores of material and supplier choices. It seems easy to pick the more marketed high street brand but our uniqueness comes from choosing local UK based manufacturers and suppliers in as much as possible thereby getting the best of craftsmanship and promoting local crafts.

~ keep calm and carry on ~

Beyonce told us 'Run the world ' with her hit single in 2011. Nobody said it would be easy. As one of the very few women in construction I face the challenges everyday and yet there are these moments when you lift the blinds and you let the world know there is still a lot of fight left in me.

~ Materialism ~

Our commitment to sustainability is showcased throughout this basement project, the choice of eco-friendly materials such as linen, rattan, jute, live wood, handmade ceramic, recycled plastic etc. We believe that by prioritising sustainability in our design choices, we can create a better future for both our clients and the environment.

We love mixing timeless and contemporary furniture and lightings. Soon to be seen in our Pimlico project!

for all those who have been following our Instagram story for a while, you will be seeing more of this project soon on our IG grid now, we have nearly finished the build works and are now in the process to source lightings, furniture and decor accessories. Stay in touch!

~ design tips ~

Today, I thought to share with you a few details that could help to achieve a timeless interior, something that is designed to harmonise, not shout! Here it is -

1. Lighting - is central to the space, compare that to a jewel, if chosen correctly it can lift the space to another level.
2. Paint or limewash - if you are looking to create a calm, natural and pared back look and also to add life, texture and layers to your walls then ‘limewash paint’ is your answer. Its environmentally friendly, helps to reduce dampness, it ages well and looks stunning as it matures. Also improves indoor air quality which is a BONUS!
3. Mix old & new - by mixing old and new one can create a timeless space.

What are some of the things you prioritised when redefining your space?

I thought to share some key learnings in the last 2 years 6 months since we ventured to establish ‘PEMBERLEY’.

The aim is to help those who are aiming to get into design or infact any business for themselves!!!

~ Renovation is never an easy journey ~

Project management is about beginning from an empty slate and get it to a stage where one can totally imagine how your design will manifest.

Renovation is never an easy journey, as a design house we help in putting all details together, from concept to technical drawings, tradespeople, to providing access to more than a 1000+ trade suppliers in the UK and abroad.

So what you get in the end is a dream come true. Of course behind the scenes, its putting in numerous hours to get the technical and aesthetic detail to flow together. Might seem easy but there is nothing simple about that!

~ considered design ~

Someone recently asked me ~ ‘when you say considered design, what do you mean by that?’ my answer? thoughtful! so to further explain …. this is when you carefully choose elements that are calm, natural and pared back to create a timeless interior that is meant to bring harmony, not shout is something we can say is a ‘considered design’

I have tried to reflect that here in the first image, however, we submitted the image 2 (part of a cafe design proposal) that was based around clients’ brief, requirements and likings.

~ design goals 2022 ~

we thought to share our core values or some design elements that describe us well.

01 - Authentic - Authenticity is about finding beauty in the foundation and not layering it behind fake textures. More often than not we see an unfound focus on layering, sometimes it is based on hiding weaknesses but mostly it is about making a product appear familiar or desirable but that otherwise serves no purpose. Little imperfections, as in the ribbed plaster details that existed give meaning to a home. It is about finding beauty in pure content.

02 - Distinct - Something that is distinctive has a special quality or feature to it which makes it easily recognizable and different from other things of the same type. Easily sensed, understood and clear. Precise.

03 - Refined - A design that triggers deep admiration, particularly amongst enthusiasts of a particular design culture or philosophy. ... A person, artwork or design that exemplifies a culture or philosophy.

04 - Thoughtful - Thoughtful design takes an important influence into account, encouraging a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Thoughtful designers carefully consider the implications on consumers' behaviour and habits when they craft brands, objects and interfaces.

05 - Timeless - Timeless design is quietly understated, simple and sophisticated. This style is one that is designed to be highly functional, yet not bland and boring. The timeless style is subtle, adaptable and outlasts. It's a style that belongs to both its space and its environment.

This certainly makes me ask - what design elements would you love to bring to your home while designing / renovating it? especially, now we have started loving our HOME more than ever!!!
