Baby Dog Films Update 26.03.21
Hi everyone! Super special blog post today, a little update on where we’ve been and what we’ve been up to! With a light at the end of the tunnel (lockdown) we’ve been busy behind the scenes going through the ‘WINGS’ script, finding any and all scenes we could possibly do outdoors, with just 6 people involved. We’re lucky enough to say with a little re-jig of some things we’ve done it and are hoping, praying, crossing everything that come Easter weekend we will be able to get some more filming done! Obviously this remains based on the current guidelines, and whether or not anything changes on Monday, but for now we’re just excited to possibly be able to get back on set!
With this new filming in mind, we’re also working really hard on getting the ‘WINGS’ and ‘Moon Fish’ trailers ready for release, so you can have a snippet of what to expect when the full feature is finished! Our fantastic Editor Adam Dawson is creating some amazing special effects to ramp up the horror element of ‘WINGS’, so get ready for some spine chilling scenes, both in the trailer and the film itself! From blood and gore to nerve shredding tension, the horror fans among you all are going to LOVE what we have in store for you over the next few months!
This has also meant the first series of our podcasts has come to an end, but we have exciting plans for series 2! In this series, we will be looking at life on set, especially on a smaller budget. I’ll be chatting to cast, crew and the production team to find out what their job will entail on the set of ‘WINGS’, both onscreen and off and getting any tips or advice they have for those of you in the industry!
It’s also very exciting to say that both ‘WINGS’ and ‘Moon Fish’ have won numerous awards at film festivals over the last few months! Including Best Feature Script/Screenplay at GONA Film Awards and White Unicorn International Film Festival, and official selection at Tagore International Film Festival, Prague International Monthly Film Festival and PRISMA Rome Independent Film Awards, to name a few! It’s also exciting to say that another of our feature films in pre-production at Baby Dog Films, ’The Starving Swans’, has been announced as a finalist at NRFF Amsterdam 2021! We are hugely proud of the work that our whole team put in to winning these awards, from our Creative Director Karlton Parris for writing these incredible works, to our Executive Producer Wendy Jones for putting the festival entries together!
Finally, we are also in the process of getting everything together to launch our crowd funder campaign for ‘WINGS’, with some incredible perks! We are excited to say that we are exploring official merchandise options with amazingly talented artists, industry workshops with our creative team, including Writer/Director Karlton Parris, and even days on set for any Executive Producers! If you would like to be involved in the making of ‘WINGS’, this is your opportunity, so keep your eyes peeled for our official launch date!

A very special blog post for you this week, in light of International Women's Day, we're shining a light on the incredible women who work behind the scenes at Baby Dog Films🖤
-----------------------------------------------------------------
In celebration of International Women’s Day on Monday, today’s blog post is all about celebrating the incredible women that work on our fantastic projects here at Baby Dog Films.
Wendy Jones - Wendy is a director of the company, as well as Executive Producer on all our projects. She is responsible for over seeing all look books, the development of the website, pitches to investors and distributors. She organises shoot schedules, locations, accommodation, travel arrangements and catering. Wendy is also a member of Women in Film and TV, and is a certified COVID safety regulator, as well as acting in all of our projects. Wendy takes on many roles within our company and we are incredibly proud of how hard she works! She is the current definition of a ‘girl boss’ within our company!
Linda Clark - Linda not only acts in all of our incredible projects, she dedicates her time to proofreading the scripts that our Creative Director Karlton writes, and as he is such a prolific wordsmith, there are quite a few! Linda is responsible for making sure all scripts have the correct spelling, punctuation and grammar before they are formatted and sent out to our cast and crew! Linda is the perfect team member for our company as she is always willing to dedicate any time she can to helping others, even if they are not in her department!
Gabrielle Finnegan - Gabby is our fantastic script supervisor on Baby Dog Film projects, and although she was self- confessed very new to the role when she first joined the team, we couldn’t have done it without her! As script supervisor her main responsibility is continuity, ensuring that each take looks the same, from the actor’s lines, actions, clothing, hair and make up, to the set decor and placement or use of each prop; it is basically an impossible task, but an important one! As script supervisor, it is her role to divide the script into 8ths, noting any continuity production should be aware of between scenes and estimating how long each scene will be. On set she keeps a record of the day’s timings, of the scene running time, and shot running time, making notes about each take, including changes to continuity and what take was preferential to the director. She also keeps an eye on shots, making sure everything that needs to be covered is, and that the shots will work in the edit, and at the end of each day she writes up and sends the report!
Alice Gill - Alice is a member of our hair and make up team and has had a passion for film and TV since she started her A-levels! She says that finding a love for film and TV hair and make up allows her to be wild with her creativity. Alice trained at college, learning the ins and outs of what it took to be a make up artist and she loves the buzz on set and the excitement the industry has to offer! As a trainee make up artist, Alice is in charge of making things run smoothly, for example the ‘paper work’ side of things, ensuring continuity is met and everything is organised in their department. To do this, photos of artists are taken and filed ready for use whenever needed, make up equipment is regularly sanitised and cleaned between cast members, as well as going on to set to do touch ups to make sure the overall outcome of the production is fantastic. Alice loves what her job offers her, as well as the opportunity to progress and develop in her role, and would encourage anyone who wants to be in the industry to go for it, but be prepared to work hard for their goals!
Francesca Phillips - Fran is part of our fantastic hair and make up team as well and she is always willing to throw herself into things, she finds that the best way to learn and progress! She is an incredibly talented self-taught make up artist but will soon be on her way to London to continue to study make up and further her career. As a make-up artist on set, her main responsibility is to know when which cast member needs to be ready in hair and make up throughout the day, the call sheet is her best friend! She also accompanies actor’s to set in order to make sure their make up stays perfect, which is vital for continuity! The beginning of the day is always the most hectic for our make-up team but is so much fun and Fran stands by the fact that team work is crucial, and it is all worth it when the final product is released and she can see all of her hard work!
These are only a few of the strong women that work behind the scenes here at Baby Dog Films that we wanted to shine a light on for all of their dedication to the projects and to the team. We are lucky to be surrounded by such a wonderful team.
