š² Did You Know? The First Soup Kitchens Opened in 1800s London! š²
Soup kitchens began as places offering free or low-cost soup and bread to the needy. While initially well-received, they faced criticism for allegedly encouraging dependency.
In 1834, the Poor Law Amendment Act made soup kitchens illegal in Britain, but this changed during the Irish famine. The ban was relaxed, though regulations remained strict, with long queues and invasive questioning.
Let's look at one of London's most memorable Kings!
Henry VIII, known for his six marriages and the establishment of the Church of England, reshaped the English constitution. His marriage to Anne Boleyn was pivotal in the church's formation.
After ascending the throne at 17, he married his brotherās widow, Catherine, and was crowned in 1509. Henry also reformed medical practices in 1518 and fortified England's defenses, transforming the nation into a maritime power with a formidable navy.

š©øLONDON HISTORY...ahem, WEEK!šŖ
The bubonic plague, spread by fleas biting humans and rats, claimed 29,000 to 40,000 lives during the 1603 London outbreak. Poor living conditions and a large rat population fueled its rapid spread.
As the summer intensified, daily life felt the plague's grip: Trinity law sessions halted, St. Paul's Cathedral emptied, and the royal family sought refuge in Hampshire for safety.
Theatre closures, including those of playwrights like Shakespeare, aimed to stem the disease's tide. Despite continued outbreaks, societal awareness grew regarding the plague's link to poor hygiene.

It's London History Day!
But why take a day when we can make a week of it! šŖ
Let's teach you traitors about the Great Fire of 1135
In 1135, the Pentecost Fire destroyed the wooden London Bridge, possibly starting in Sheriff Gilbert Becket's home. Homes across a 1.5-mile radius along the Thames were lost. There's speculation that St. Paulās Cathedral may have been among them. ššļø
