A celebration of the legacy of master blender, Jim Beveridge.

Few master blenders can be said to have walked where Jim Beveridge has walked. A legacy built and blended across more than forty years, Johnnie Walker Master's Cut embodies a life's work in a unique blend of just two whiskies. Perfectly balanced, deceptively simple — the ultimate expression of a master blender.

This blend pays homage to the Johnnie Walker past and celebrates the brand's journey into the future.

Only 1,000 bottles are available, making it a rare collectible for fans of the iconic Scotch.

We don’t want to jinx it, but it looks like more than a glimpse of sunshine could be on its way. As far as we are concerned there is no better way to celebrate this rare UK phenomenon than with the delicious Domaine de L’Ile Rosé, flush with its wild red berry fruit and sea salt characteristics.

From the beautiful island of Porquerolles, situated off France’s Côte d’Azur, this 12.5 hectare organically farmed national park nature reserve was bought by Chanel in 2019; the wine will transport you to coastal southern France instantly.

This is yet another spectacular Pichon Comtesse from Nicolas Glumineau. We would expect nothing less... Pichon has been on top form, producing wines of First Growth quality for the last decade. 2023 continues this extraordinary sequence with another stunner. The critics are clearly smitten too, with William Kelley describing it as “a brilliant wine that will be worth a special effort to track down” and Neal Martin calling it “outstanding”.

"The 2023 has a quintessential Comtesse bouquet, displaying pure and expressive black fruit laced with violet and graphite, delivered with impressive delineation." - 96-98/100, Neal Martin, Vinous

If Le Pin caresses your heart and Ausone is a wine that gently stimulates every nerve in the body, Château Lafleur is THE wine that engages the mind. Deep, meaningful, and cerebral, softly spoken yet intense, it stands alone amongst the great names of the right bank.

Usually produced from about 55% Bouchet (old vine Cabernet Franc) and the balance Merlot, its minuscule 1000 cases production is coveted by collectors and connoisseurs alike. With natural fertilisers, low yields, and a less-is-more vinification approach, their terroir speaks volumes in every sip.

Established in 1872, the chateau remains in the same family, focusing on quality and knowledge of their terroir. Jacques and Sylvie and their three children have been the exclusive owners since 2001 - Aided by former Petrus winemaker Jean Claude Berrouet, their dedication to excellence shines through in every bottle.

With the May Bank Holiday finally here and the months of non-stop rain hopefully relegated to the rear-view mirror, what better way to celebrate than by pulling the cork on a fantastic Rosé.

Royale Réserve Rosé from Champagne Philipponnat is a complex, subtle bottle of rosé where the red wine component comes from the upper sections of the Clos des Goisses vineyard. This has all the interest and complexity to work really well with food, but also the balance to make a very fine aperitif.

Bella Oaks, a storied and historic plot whose name is synonymous with the pioneering spirit of Napa in the 1960s. Most recently purchased by Suzanne Deal Booth in 2010, the property today produces just 300 cases of its proprietary red, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from the famed Oakville benchlands just north of To Kalon.

The gorgeously sleek Napa Cabernet Blend wends its way across the palate leaving a trail of pure seduction in its wake. Both dark and red fruits dot the nose alongside a note of floral lift and crisp graphite, then rooibos tea and black plums. Sensual, expressive and polished, this pulsates with life and yet, you get the sense this may take some years to fully reveal itself.

In the decade since their first bottling, this husband and wife team behind Walter Scott Wines has created a reputation for producing some of Oregon’s most exciting wines. They are hard to come by, produced in tiny quantities, and beloved by critics.

Ken and Erica lavish as much care and attention on the Combe Verte bottlings as any of the single vineyard releases and as a result this represents one of the best value New World Chardonnay’s we’ve come across.

Crisp notes of meyer lemon and white fruit are fused with gunflint and fine salty stones. A taut, virile Chardonnay that’s an unbeatable gateway to what the Willamette valley is capable of. Ageing takes place in large French oak barrels, of which around 20% is new. Battonage is kept to an absolute minimum.

Owner Luigi Scavino, cousin and neighbour of Piemonte legend Enrico Scavino, started off life as one of the typical modern Piedmont producers: no expense was spared as new oak was used for the top wines, yields were low and the sparkling new fermenting vats were of stainless steel.

Many of these aspects still apply, however Azelia have refined their techniques enormously over the years. Joined now by Lorenzo Scavino, the family run winery is now among Barolo's leading lights. They produce a superb Dolcetto planted at 500 metres above sea level on a south facing slope in the prime Montelupo district and their oak-aged Barbera is extremely fine too.

All of their Nebbiolo holdings are spread out over the Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga regions where the vine produces full bodied, intense and complex wines. The top two wines are the ethereal but powerful Bricco Fiasco from Castiglione (the same vineyard as Scavino's Bric del Fiasc) and the explosive, spicy San Rocco from Serralunga. In only the best of vintages a Barolo Riserva is made from the ideally situated vineyard in Serralunga, Voghera.

While “value Burgundy” can sometimes seem something of an oxymoron, in reality, if you know where to look, a raft of up-and-coming producers have been driving up the quality of the region’s gateway wines, with more established names increasingly matching their efforts via their less vaunted bottlings.

And wouldn’t you know it – our buying team has dug deep to uncover half a dozen great-value reds which have just begun to blossom and represent brilliant drinking right now.

Discover Domaine de L'ile.

When the fashion house Chanel purchased Domaine de l’Ile in 2019 they were continuing a 100 year old tradition of wine production on the island of Porquerolles; a 12.5 hectare organically farmed national park nature reserve, situated off France’s Côte d’Azur.

Bathed in light and blessed with an atmospheric humidity that perfectly balances out the burning winds from the south, the island terroir, predominantly quartzite, clay and schist, is the ideal home for producing aromatically captivating Rosés with just the right kiss of sea air. Add in the scents of an island rich in flora, where eucalyptus and pine forests dot the landscape, and the result is a rosé of real sophistication matched to an easy natural balance.

Given the Chanel group’s penchant for dialling up quality at their various estates, Ch. Canon and Rauzan Segla being stellar examples, it is no surprise that Domaine de l’Ile Rosé is already stunning. With Nicolas Audebert overseeing production, Thomas Duclos consulting, and ex-Lafleur Pierre Etcheberry managing the estate day to day, the group has assembled an all-star cast with which to fashion this delicious Provençale rosé.

Introducing the brilliant Elio Altare, one of the esteemed producers featured in our Piedmont 2020 En Primeur offer.

Elio has done Piedmont wines a great service over the last two decades. Not only has the outstanding quality of his delightful ‘La Morra’ Barolo wines raised Piedmont’s profile, but he has taken many younger growers, such as Marco Marengo, under his wing giving them advice and instilling confidence in them to make and bottle their own wines.

As Elio steps ever closer to full retirement, his talented daughter Silvia has taken greater control of wine production, carrying on the estate's concept of producing "modern classics." One of Silvia's recent initiatives was to produce the uno per uno cuvée, a staggeringly labour intense wine produced by cutting berries (selecting from the estate's best plots) off of their stalks for whole berry fermentation. The result is one of the modern day greats of Barolo.

The wines are packed with vivid character, offer silky textures and are some of the most intense wines Piedmont has to offer. Viticulture is organic and sulphur usuage is incredibly low. These are some of the most honest, pure and environmentally friendly wines in the region.

Our Piedmont En Primeur 2020 offer is live and ongoing! Housing a raft of producers, styles and price points, our Italy buyer Mark Dearing has narrowed the field and highlighted five wines worthy of a personal recommendation.

It is no surprise to see two recommendations for Castello di Verduno on the list. An old house producing effusive, delicate Barolo and Barbaresco, the wines are finally receiving the praise they deserve.

Rabaja Bas is a vivid, fragrant Barbaresco. A wine that is pleasurable from the get-go. Burnished, copper-red fruit, light in tannin - a jovial, berry-rich Barbaresco. Fragrant rosemary and thyme hints, on the subtler end of garrigue, the palate is nice and velvety but stops short of feeling too polished. A wine that is pleasurable from the get-go. Contrary to the name, Rabaja Bas is not the lower part of Rabaja but a continuation of the ridge, at the same elevation, on the west facing end as opposed to the full south of Rabaja. The Castello’s plot was planted in 1942 during the war. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in cask for 20 months

Last week we were delighted to hold our Piedmont 2020 En Primeur tasting event at the wonderful Home House.

Piedmont’s 2020 vintage is lucid, ruby-hued, rich in perfume, textural delicacy, artistic expression with more than a few moments of grandeur.

A vintage that delights from the off and captures the essence of fine Nebbiolo in its perfume, radiance and textural delicacy, the 2020s have a great deal more freshness and precision than a typical solaire year.

"Wine and art are commonly paralleled – particularly in Italy. Both require a creative mind and appreciation for the ephemeral. In tasting the 2020s, to us they elicited the work of the sculptor more than the painter" - Mark Dearing, Justerini & Brooks Wine Buyer.

We would like to extend our appreciation to Scavino, Piero Busso, Lorenzo Scavino Azelia, Roberto Voerzio Winery, Marco Marengo, Luigi Oddero, Castello di Veduno and Fratellia Brovia for joining us in a brilliant evening.
