“Leaders in social care also warned the money was "nowhere near enough" and would not address current problems.” – Via BBC News

Read their full article here: https://bbc.in/3huGPNg 📰

Last week Boris Johnson announced a new health and social care tax will be introduced to pay towards “backlog caused by the Covid pandemic and to bolster social care”.

This new announcement has sparked much debate across the nation as many in the social care sector are concerned that this will simply not be enough.

Earlier this year, health and social care charity, Community Integrated Care (CIC) announced their ‘Unfair to Care’ campaign addressing the growing issue of low-pay for social care workers. They spoke about how an ageing population and global pandemic has increased the demand for social care however many of the sectors staff are simply not paid enough.

CIC state there are an estimated 112,000 unfilled jobs in the sector (and this is only increasing) due to people leaving for better-paid jobs. Many are worried that the government’s new social care budget won’t be enough. CEO of CIC, Mark Adams, states “This solution doesn’t ‘fix social care’ but instead tidies the tip of the iceberg.”

How do you feel about this new announcement? Do you think this is an acceptable approach, or do you think the social care sector and it’s staff deserve better? 🤔

It’s Youth Mental Health Day, here’s 6 Ways to Support Your Teenager’s Mental Wellbeing (via The Independent) ❤️

1️⃣ Help them identify an achievable goal
2️⃣ Praise them
3️⃣ Make time to talk
4️⃣ Never dismiss their feelings
5️⃣ Suggest positive self-talk strategies
6️⃣ Breathe together

Article here: https://bit.ly/3yRfLgY 📰

This year the team, stem4, are encouraging youngsters to Stride Forward. It goes without saying our teens have had a tough year and a half having to study from home and missing out on seeing their friends, so this is a great opportunity to see them leap into new and exciting opportunities. 💪

Let’s break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage open conversations. stem4 states that “even before the COVID-19 crisis, one in six young people aged 5-16-year olds had a mental disorder.“

Moving forward, we need to listen to young people and provide them with a safe space to talk about their feelings. Check out stem4’s website here https://bit.ly/3DMdQhw for some useful resources and activities including downloadable packs. 💙

As part of their recent report (compiled in conjunction with Korn Ferry UK ), Adams elaborates on the impact of underpaying and underappreciating staff and its negative effects on services and their users.

He also talks about what both local and national government could do to turn things around and to reverse years of underfunding, overshadowing and under-caring for social care workers. 📢

Here at Social Personnel, we do not tolerate racial abuse. We strongly condemn all manner of discrimination and are extremely disheartened by the abuse that some of the England players received last night.

Racism isn’t welcome in our workplace and shouldn’t be welcome anywhere. We encourage our colleagues, candidates and clients to stomp out racial hatred by calling out such behaviour and reflecting on what needs to be done to further combat inequality.

Speak to your staff and have open discussions about how your company can improve on being an inclusive workplace for all.

We are so proud of the success of England during this tournament and ask you all to celebrate diversity and the power of coming together as a nation.
