Hi all,
Just a quick reminder about tomorrow's jam session at 5pm, featuring the incredible Patrick Clahar. If you haven't seen our new venue yet, you really need to come and experience the new atmosphere! We have a beautiful grand piano, a bar with soft and alcoholic drinks, and delicious food. It’s a great place to hang out with your family and enjoy your Sunday dinner while listening to some fantastic jazz.
After the first set with Patrick, the jam session will kick off in the second set. All instruments and singers are welcome! Also, children aged 16 and under get in for free.

What a fantastic night at Highams Park Jazz Club with the brilliant A big thank you to Alan Barnes and his superb band Graham Harvey Andrew Cleyndert and —for their incredible performances. The energy in the room was amazing, and the whole place was buzzing thanks to the warmth they brought to the stage. We are very excited to host the phenomenal flautist Rowland Sutherland at the Highams Park Jazz Club jam session. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy his performance, share the stage, and receive valuable advice.
Rowland Sutherland is an internationally acclaimed flautist, known for his versatility in jazz, new music ensembles, improvised music, symphony orchestras, non-Western groups, and pop outfits. He has performed with renowned artists such as Frank Wess, David Murray, Flora Purim, Henry Threadgill, Carla Bley, Manu Dibango, Airto, Nitin Sawhney, Courtney Pine, and the Rebirth Brass Band.
He has collaborated with new music ensembles and dance companies, including New Music Players, Lontano, Icebreaker, Colin Currie Group, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Phoenix Dance, and Rambert Dance. Rowland is also active in the orchestral field, playing with orchestras like the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and London Philharmonic.
Rowland has graced stages at prestigious venues and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, North Sea Jazz Festival, The Royal Concertgebouw, Esplanade Concert Hall, and Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall. His composition "Enlightenment," inspired by John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme," received critical acclaim and was featured at the Meltdown Festival and on BBC Radio 3's "Jazz on 3."
As a bandleader, Rowland’s Brazilian-influenced jazz band Mistura released the album "Coast to Coast." He has also recorded with pop artists and producers such as Incognito, George Benson, Joss Stone, Billie Eilish, Hans Zimmer, Us3, Omar, and Marc Almond.
Rowland lectures at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and tutors at the University of Southampton and Goldsmiths University. He has also conducted workshops and masterclasses at various institutions worldwide, including MIT, the University of the Bahamas, and the Royal Academy of Music. (Photo by Richard Kaby)
