In 1999, two rebellious teenagers start a cheerleading squad for their provincial high school, bringing confidence and solidarity to themselves, their misfit troupe and an entire community afflicted by narrow horizons and labour disputes.
Like Lukas Moodyssonโs We Are the Best! (2013), Park Beom-suโs joyously punkish and irreverently funny crowd-pleaser has infectious charm, winning wit and girl-power exuberance to spare.

Foregrounding the importance of world-building in Kim Ayoungโs practice, this video work depicts female delivery rider Ernst Mo (an anagram of โmonsterโ) working for the delivery platform Delivery Dancer, which is administered by a master algorithm called Dancemaster. The work not only examines the gig economy and platform labour (which became immensely popular in Korea during the pandemic) but also topological labyrinths, possible worlds, hypervigilance, and the accelerationist urge to optimise body, time and space. It also hints at a q***r relationship with En Storm (another anagram of โmonsterโ), Ernst Moโs counterpart from another possible world.

Park Soo-nam, a second-generation Zainichi director, discovered that she was losing her sight just as she set out to digitally restore her 16 mm films with the assistance of her daughter, director Park Maeui. The footage, shot over fifty years, is indelibly marked with the blood, tears, and countless corpses of Zainichi Koreans. It isnโt just the voices of forced labourers, atomic bomb survivors, and โcomfort womenโ that are resurrected from the deteriorating, 100,000-feet-long film reelsโit is also the voice of Park Soo-nam herself, fearlessly fighting alongside a Korean boy on death row, storming out during the first-day-of-school ceremony to protest the singing of the Japanese national anthem, singing โGarden Balsamโ at a massacre site, and attempting to find a hopeful future from the 100-year history of Koreans in Japan. ๐๐ค๐๐๐๐จ ๐ค๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ is an archive of Zainichi Koreansโ resistance and struggle and a remarkable autobiography of a woman who knows no defeat.
