Don't just take our word for it....
As you may know, last month was Black History Month in the UK, a time focused on celebrating the achievements and contributions of black people whilst also bringing awareness to the racism and discrimination that people still experience every day. We took the time to speak with Hilary Harvey, UK Partner, about her thoughts on the need for these discussions to not just be limited to one month in the year.
"I spoke to a Head Teacher recently who told me that their school took the decision not to do Black History Month because they were striving to integrate teachings and awareness throughout the curriculum and the academic year. This move towards integrating should be the case for the whole of society; the reason why we have these specially dedicated days or months is because the audience or topic is currently not yet fully valued or integrated into the mainstream. In my experience many people and organisations are very vocal about amplifying Black voices and self-declaring as anti-racist during Black History month, but strangely silent in the rest of the year, so these gestures of support feel like performative activism or tokenistic publicity stunts.
When these dedicated days or months come around, I hold an internal conversation with myself; I ask myself what are the reasons for sharing something publicly? Should I be taking the opportunity to join in with the discussion or is it fuelling a system that I don't agree with? Given that online abuse disproportionately impacts Black women, non-binary people and women from minoritised communities, am I willing to open myself up as a target? I don't find easy answers.
I do believe in the need for Black History Month, but it must not be used as an easy way for companies to congratulate themselves on how well they are doing and then not think about racism for another year. My wish is for leaders at all levels to bring more willingness to navigate complex issues, have real conversations and commit to engaging with anti-racism throughout the rest of the year. Maybe then, eventually, one day, it will seem like the strangest idea that a particular group in society would need a dedicated month to help people realise how valued and vital they are."
"Creativity is necessary now in terms of digital innovation and in terms of how we reduce water consumption, lower emissions and how we create more sustainable ways of working — the real zeitgeist of today.”
In this latest blog focusing on supporting the Professional Service industry, Neel Arya explores how, in a virtual environment where team meetings can often become just reporting vehicles, facilitating creativity can be a challenge.
Managing Virtual Teams: How to Promote Creativity In this next blog in the series, Neel Ayra considers practical techniques that can help infuse creativity into a virtual setting

As it's holiday season we thought we would share some summer reading ideas collected from the TPC Leadership Partnership.
This week we recommend New Leaders by Laurent Jacquet our Partner in Belgium.
This book is driven by Laurent's personal mission to create better leaders.
"A new era calls for a new generation of leaders. This powerful guide provides an innovative yet simple approach on how to lead and inspire others, built on the bold promise that when it comes to achieving impactful leadership, intentions matter more that skills. This book is designed for both first-time managers who wonder where to start and experienced leaders who want to lead in a new way - their own way".
