Why Turo Turo?
Turo Turoโ actually โturu-turoโ literally meaning โpoint pointโ In Tagalog, is a general name to describe fast food stalls or diners, where customers would point at any food on display that they would like to be served. Turo Turo restaurants in the Philippines are typically fast food restaurants that serve a selection of dishes to customers in quick succession. They are popular with office workers on their lunch breaks.
The name Turo Turo is quick and catchy and as with most Filipino Phrases like โHaloHaloโ or โMixMixโ for example, the word is repeated which often seems to be used to transform a Tagalog Verb into a pleasant Noun. Filipinos also just love nicknaming their kids or loved ones with nicknames like โMacMacโ or โBingBingโ for Sentimental reasons.
The Carabao or Filipino Water Buffalo is a โbeast of burdenโ and just how a Dog is Considered manโs best friend in the West, so too is the Carabao considered โManโs best friendโ in the Philippines. The Carabao symbolizes; strength, power, efficiency, perseverance and most of all, hard work and is the Icon of choice for Turo Turo as it represents the Filipinoโs hard working nature. The Carabao is the national animal of the Philippines and is often referred to as โthe Living Tractor of the eastโ. We believe these qualities are vital in committing to a Filipino Food Revolution in the UK.
