La Fromagerie Bloomsbury is a cheese shop, bar, cafe and private event space founded by Patricia Michelson.
Last week we had the pleasure of tasting Hafod with Jennifer Kast, a remarkable cheesemaker/farmer at Hafod farm. We digged deep into flavour profiles along with pasture structure, timings for growing hay feed, and generally had a wonderful time chatting and exchanging notes.
We’re putting together a Take Three Cheddars cheeseboard to showcase cheddars from North Cadbury Somerset, Ceredigion Wales and Isle of Mull Scotland; enjoy the journey and the cheeses from glorious landscapes, each with their own story to tell.
We love beer, but for this th*****me we’ve chosen Chateau Beaulieu Marmandais 2008 from Agen SW France for an elegant, classic and memorable taste of cheese and wine.
Taste how cheddar evolves from the place it’s made - that is what is so fascinating - but also the ethos of La Fromagerie and the cheeses we have in our Cheese Rooms.
Apparently it was just national charcuterie day. Who knew?! Well in honour of this very important day, we wanted to shine a light and give thanks to our Italian and French suppliers who have had to work extra hard over the last 6 months to overcome the ever-changing and quite frankly exhausting paperwork challenges of the new post-Brexit rules.
We pride ourselves on sourcing the best quality charcuterie & cheeses bur these new rules have made doing this a constant uphill (and very expensive) battle.
Whether you’re after some Speck cured in windows naturally from the salt in the nearby sea, saucisson de Pyrenees to add to an impromptu picnic, or a good wedge of guanciale to impress your guests with the finest carbonara they’ve ever tried… We will continue to do our best to bring these products in and keep supporting our friends, farmers, suppliers and producers doing their best to get through these tougher times.
So come by one of our shops, ask the staff for a slither of Prosciutto Toscano, a round of Coppa or a hunk of Lombo in Porcetta. Trust us when we say, it doesn’t get much better than this!
These lesser-known Alpine style cheeses are just as tasty as their famous counterparts Comté & Gruyére. But there is a world of cooked/pressed cheeses to discover and we urge you to step into the unknown and try something new!

Cadours purple garlic is from SW France and can be eaten like a vegetable, roasted around a chicken in whole bulbs, or in the pan of roasting potatoes. Mash down the cloves to give a wonderful creamy texture with crusty edges to the outer casing 🧄🧄🧄
Another chef’s table this Friday, this time an homage to Portugal. Indulge in Carne de Porcoa à Alentejana, (a traditional dish of pork & clams) and finish with a sweet apricot serradura and LF cheese board. Final few tickets up on the website 🎫
Quite unlike the mass produced commercial cheeses, this farmhouse Gouda has been aged for one year and carries a lovely mellow, mild taste. Sliver on a piece of crunchy toast for breakfast or devour as is; it won’t disappoint.
Gather round. On Monday September 9th, head chef Alessandro prepares the summer’s end: ‘Fosse Meadow’ Chicken, sweetcorn, girolles, and a cheese board to remember. Berry pudding, clotted cream. Come hungry. Last few tickets via website 🎟️
Sunday strolls through Marylebone means an inevitable pit stop at our cheese toastie stand for a quick bite and catch up with Mimi. The perfect snack for your weekend wanderings, catch her every Sunday slinging out hot toasties and tasty treats.
Weekend inspiration for late summer - the onions are now in season so Pissaladiere is on the bar menu at Marylebone tonight. A glass of Rose from Valdition estate in Eygaliere and we are back in Provence. Gorgeous salad leaves from . Recipe in Patricia's book CHEESE - signed copies on request!
The cheese room is filled with wonderful ewe’s milk cheeses that are hard, soft and blue, the perfect accompaniment to late summer fruits. This one is Piacentinu Ennese, a raw sheep’s milk cheese made with Saffron and Black Peppercorns.
Back in 1090, the king ruling Sicily was looking for a cure for his wife’s depression so he asked local cheese makers to create a thaumaturgic cheese. Saffron was thought to have magical healing properties and combined with the black pepper for better absorption, this amber-hued cheese was invented.
While we can’t promise it will cure all your troubles, its sweet yet tangy aroma may just gently slow your surroundings, inviting you to pause and savour the simple, quiet magic of the moment.
We know when summer is starting to fade - Laurent, the Onion Johnnie from Roscoff appears with beautiful trays of pink Roscoff Onions. The best onions to make a truly authentic onion soup. Cooked slowly they release a sweetness that is so delicious mingled with the melted cheese.
Yes, we are a cheese shop first and foremost, but our passions extend far beyond the realms of cheese. For us, its the undulating tides of inspiration, from exquisite design and beautiful produce, to travel and the people we encounter along the way. That’s why our Marylebone shop has also become a place to source unique treasures we’ve gathered on sourcing trips. From old French jam jars discovered at the Brocante in Bordeaux to elegant new ice cream coupes, each item tells a story of our journey—connecting our love for tradition with a keen eye for timeless design.
An exciting delivery is arriving in Marylebone today from . Enter Hidcote, a new lactic sheep’s milk cheese inspired by the traditional Perail. It’s a small-batch, carefully aged cheese with a soft, creamy texture and a gentle tang that speaks of the rolling hills where the sheep graze. This is a particularly perfect batch, so come give it a whirl before it’s all gone.
As we continue our ‘summer destinations’ supper series, we head to Spain next for a classic Seafood Paella followed by a Spanish chessboard and cinnamon churros. This Friday 23rd, final few tickets via website 🎫
At La Fromagerie, it’s never about fancy fitments and décor—it’s about the produce. If we make a toasted cheese sandwich, it’s made with the best cheeses, not a load of cheap stuff. Just because it’s melted doesn’t mean you can cut corners. We wouldn’t sell anything we wouldn’t want to buy ourselves—simple as that. So, our Savoie toasted cheese is layered with Emmental Français, 12-month Comté, Le Cousin, and wholegrain mustard. Add Emmett’s Suffolk smoked ham if you like. Or go Italian with Fontina Alpina, Asiago Pressato, and Toma del Maccagno. For those with a taste for indulgence, try the black truffle Savoie. Because anything less just wouldn’t make the cut.
Mid-morning in Highbury. A quiet moment before the bustle —fresh produce, fine pastas, and bottles that know their way around a table. Everything in its place, just as it should be.
Jams and chutneys, born from the summer’s harvest—ripe fruits and vegetables transformed into jars of goodness. Perfect with cheese, slathered on warm toast, or dolloped generously atop your favorite desserts.
As the sun graces us with its warmth at long last, the city invites us to find solace in its green corners. La Fromagerie’s picnic boxes are ready to accompany you—thoughtful selections of cheeses, charcuterie, and seasonal delights, prepared for moments of quiet indulgence or lively gatherings. Embrace the season, find your patch of grass, and let the feast begin.
Tomme De Brebis Fermier
Affineur: Les Caves d’Affinage de Savoie
A raw sheep’s milk Tomme aged amongst the Beauforts that have shaped the very essence of La Fromagerie since the very beginning. The milk comes from the Tarentaise Valley, so if you’re a fan of Tomme De Savoie or want a sheep’s milk alternative to a French classic, then this is one to try.

Apparently, is trending on TikTok— who knew? Well consciously or not, our annual trip to Bordeaux has delightfully bestowed upon us this vintage caviar and vodka set. Picture the pop of the caviar tin, the glug of vodka, and the clink of elegant glasses, all setting the stage for an evening of utter decadence. For those in the know, this is the ultimate find
