The sun's back, who's getting their sandals back out?

Walking through the factory a couple of months ago, I saw a big piece of leather with logos randomly stamped all over it and there was something very beautiful about it. It was evidence of an apprentice practicing, and I thought, how lovely that would look on a boot. So here it is, quite simply one of our favourite derby boots with old and new logos stamped into the calf leather upper, showing some of our wonderful heritage. We have only made 12 pairs for men and 12 pairs for women, so they're a real collector's piece. I hope you like them - Tim

Back On The Road is our latest project to further lengthen the lifetime of our shoes.

We are asking anyone who is about to bin a pair of their old Grensons, to bring them in to us instead and we will patch them up and offer them to someone else in order to get a few more years out of them.

We have always believed that the best sustainable strategy is to make products that last a long time, which we have been doing since 1866, but then in addition to this we have also been repairing Grenson shoes from day one. However even after several repairs and years of wear, they eventually feel like they are ready to be retired, but we beg to differ and with a stitch or too here or a rubber there, we can polish them up and get them out there again.

So from now until the end of July, bring in your old Grensons and let us know if you have any nice anecdotes as to what you did in them (keep it clean please) and we will give you a 20% discount on your next pair. They will be patched up and sold on for a modest sum to a new owner who can love them as much as you did.

Hattie is one of our best-selling loafers. After releasing them last year in black, we decided to bring them back in white with a black sole. They’re the perfect chunky loafer.

Back in 2016, Grenson turned 150 years old, so naturally we had to celebrate and we had a party up at our factory in Northamptonshire. Our friends, The Red Arrows, very kindly said they would do a fly by and well.. you can imagine how amazing that was.

The Wholecut Triple Welt - made in England. A wholecut is one of the most expensive ways to make a shoe. Instead of most shoes using pieces of leather and stitching them together, a wholecut uses just 1 piece of leather that makes up the entire shoe and is welted to the sole. In this case, we’ve made him on a triple welt for that extra uniqueness.

As a business, Grenson has been making shoes for 157 years with the simple premise to make them to the highest quality so that they last longer. Many of our customers wear our shoes for 20 years or more. We believe that this in itself is the ultimate sustainable strategy. However we have been developing further strategies to lower our footprint further and one of these is experimenting with new materials.

This collection uses newly developed materials that all improve on those that are existing. The upper leather and the linings are tanned using the moisture from Italian olive leaves instead of more harmful chemicals. The soles are rubber and made from 25% recycled material, the midsole is made from natural crepe, the reinforcements in the toe and heel are made from recycled ocean waste and even the laces are recycled. All in all, we can confidently say that this mini collection significantly reduces the impact on the environment.

Just Dropped - The Wide Welt Triple Welt. Made in England. Now online

Launching our newest addition to the Rack - only 24 pairs made. Billy Tannery is a new micro tannery in the Midlands, in fact the first new tannery in the UK for nearly 100 years. Jack, from Billy Tannery, had set out to create beautiful goat skins from otherwise waste product and wanted us to try making some shoes with him. The leather itself is full grain and vegetable tanned which gives it a special character and means that it ages naturally and beautifully.
