๐ฟ๐ Decarbonising Home Heating: A Crucial Step Towards a Greener Future
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has just unveiled its report on the pivotal issue of decarbonising home heating. With the journey towards net zero looming large, this represents one of the most significant challenges for our Government yet.
Imagine this: nearly every one of the 28 million households in the UK needs to be part of this transition. That's a colossal task, but it's absolutely necessary for a sustainable future according to 'experts'.
The report sheds light on the current state of progress. Sadly, it's not as convincing as hoped. The targets set by the Government for decarbonising home heating seem to be slipping through our fingers.
To meet these goals, households relying on fossil fuel heating, like gas boilers, must embrace low-carbon alternatives such as heat pumps. But here's the snag โ consumers are still grappling with complexity and confusion when it comes to making the switch.
The PAC rightly points out that informed decisions are crucial, but they're not easy to come by in this arena. And let's talk about the elephant in the room: we need a serious boost in the number of trained heat pump installers to even stand a chance of meeting the ambitious targets set for 2028 plus IMHO most housing stock in the UK isn't really suitable for the transition to heat pumps due to insufficient insulation values of the fabric of the buildings and the cost of upgrading internal pipework.

Just ยฃ1.3bn of the ยฃ4.2bn Housing Infrastructure Fund has been spent so far, it is reported today.
The Housing Infrastructure Fund was created in 2017 to accelerate house-building in England by offering local authorities grants for enabling infrastructure such as access roads and utilities connections.
However, according to the Financial Times, only 31% of the post has been spent, with most of this allocated in 2021 and 2022.

A big focus yesterday was working through business development functions to proactively bring more direct, quality leads in and to create a solid sales funnel focused on commercial new build projects.
In the past, I ran and grew a multi-seven figure renewables business for a number of years so I understand the challenges and the processes that need to be put in place to find, tender, win and deliver great projects.

Here's a reminder of the hierarchy of the Duty Holders when it comes to any commercial construction site (THAT'S ANY INVESTMENT PROPERTY BTW)!
This is especially important for any deal packagers out there to understand that are providing a 'handsfree' service to your armchair investor Client.
The last thing that they want or expect is a knock on the door at any point telling them that there has been a serious accident on one of their refurb projects and they are liable because they haven't followed CDM processes.
Just because you've 'never been taught that' or 'never done it before' or 'nobody else seems to be doing it', doesn't mean that it's right and HSE won't take that as an excuse I'm afraid!
Make sure you fully understand this stuff as law of averages dictates that sooner or later, if you do enough projects, something will happen on a site to derail you if you're not careful.

The team have over 25 years experience in building with ICF and it was a good chance to showcase their skill and the processes involved on site.
