DEEP TRASH
Deep Trash is a unique multi-disciplinary exhibition and performance club night produced by Arts Feminism Q***r / CUNTemporary.
The documentary film on 'Staging Decadence' is now available to watch for free online! In this, you can see the artistic director Giulia Casalini talking about Deep Trash (part of CUNTemporary's activities) at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club.
It's 47minutes and it offers a very informative history of the aesthetics and politics of decadence, from ancient Rome to Baudelaire, all the way to Jack Smith, Penny Arcade, Ron Athey, Nando Messias, Lucy McCormick, Selina Thompson and Nia Witherspoon! There are many contributions, including Adam Alston (as the presenter), Owen Parry, Shushma Malik and Ben Walters.

On 14 January 2021, after 6 years of uninterrupted existence, YouTube/Google removed without warning our CUNTemporary account because of "multiple or severe violations of YouTube's policy on nudity or sexual content".
Besides the trailers of our Deep Trash live art club nights, our channel contained loads of educational content related to the symposia and events that we organised. All these events were funded or supported by Universities, and institutions such as the Arts Council England.
We then started moving all the videos that might have created this problem onto Vimeo, rating them as "mature". However, yesterday, 23 March 2021, also Vimeo sent us their resolution of closing down our channel because it is "focused on sexual stimulation".
Nudity or sexual content is part of the work we do as educators, artists and curators within the field of gender, LGBT, q***r and feminist studies and practices. Digital censorship is repressing our creative freedom, our bodies' autonomy, our will to empower our lives and to form transnational solidarity - in a moment when our lives depend so much on this type of connection.
We are trying to find a solution to the problem of keeping our video archive online, available for everyone to access. However it might take some time (and we do welcome help/suggestions!). In the meantime, if you look for something in particular, please get in touch at [email protected].

Deep Trash
During a time when public and private spaces are narrowing their ability to accommodate the concerns and lives of non-normative and non-binary subjects, events such as Deep Trash are crucial in bringing together a community of people interested in the themes of sexuality, gender, creativity and politics, with an intersectional and transnational approach.
Deep Trash is an exhibition-cum-club night taking place in London at the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, approx. twice a year, and every event explores a different theme. For more information check out our website at https://cuntemporary.org/category/deep-trash-events/
