Our Student Services Team attended the Jack Petchey Award Ceremony earlier this week for Schools, Colleges and Clubs based in Merton. Out of our 18 winners, 9 students attended to receive their medals for being nominated during the last academic year by their tutors and peers for doing their best, overcoming adversity and being valuable members of college. Well done!

Our Entry 3 group competed in a Bake off today. They had to make a batch of cakes and sausage rolls. Following a blind tasting the best bake was awarded to Tom who produced some very good carrot cake and sausage rolls. Well done everyone!
A Taster Event, attended by eager students applying to join the catering department in September, this morning in Taste Restaurant
Exciting day last week at Merton College as the Employability Team hosted a visit from the Royal Automobile Club Epsom. Level 2 Professional Cookery students were treated to a professional cookery masterclass by Howard Bisset Head Chef, Mark Hider F & B trainer, former students Raj Patel Chef de Partie and Joseph Pontanos Sous Chef. Students created a creating a mouth watering choux bun with pistachio ganache, vanilla cremeux, and lemon curd. The RAC even provided ingredients for students to practice at home!
Yesterday we welcomed recruiters from the Hospitality and Catering industry to our Taste Restaurant. It was an incredible experience filled with amazing networking opportunities with industry professionals. The event was a great reminder of why we love the art of Hospitality and Catering. Guests were welcomed and shown our incredible range of opportunities including courses and apprenticeships available. Recruiters discussed with our guests the range of job opportunities available to them. Our Current Hospitality and Catering students demonstrated their cocktail making and butchery skills to our attendees. Huge shout out to the organizers and everyone involved in making this event a success!
Today our Level 2 Hospitality & Catering students were treated to a masterclass by Executive Chef at Marriot Hotels, Franky Fernandes. Franky taught them how to fillet a fish and prepare the garnish and sauces to accompany the fish. Our students left with tips on which ingredients pair well with their dishes and what to look out for when choosing fish in the supermarket.
Students- join us for our Freshers Fair every day, 12pm-2pm until Thursday 29th September in the enrichment room. Come along to visit the internal departments, stalls and external guests. There will be freebies, prizes, fun and games.
Last week we hosted a lunch for The Rotary club of Morden. Hosted by their President Margaret Redway the evening had a special guest - The Mayor of Merton Councillor Michael Brunt. Our students served a delicious meals enjoyed by all guests. Lunch included:
Amuse Bouche: Gazpacho soup
Starter: Goats cheese and roasted vine tomato tart dressed leaves
Main course: supreme of salmon with bouillabaisse sauce mussels, potato galette & seasonal greens or Butternut galette with asparagus & sh*take
Dessert: Lemon posset, grilled figs & shortbread
