A great and relatable weekend read,in The Guardian this weekend, for anyone using dating apps.

Such an open and honest opinion about the whole experience. Some insights that I have heard from clients and single friends who have tried this these platforms only to find disappointment and despondency.

I loved Paloma’s quote:

“It feels like the modern model of how to connect with people is the very thing preventing us from creating real connection.”

….which is precisely what we hear from clients, who come to us for help to meet a long-term partner, after initially trying the dating apps.

Whilst Bowes-Lyon Partnership is still a ‘third-party’ when it comes to dating and matchmaking two people, we do our utmost to create an experience of quality over quantity, of face-to-face meetings and not endless WhatsApp conversations that lead to nothing, and creating connections based on moral and values and not computer-generated algorithms.

I really enjoyed reading this New York Times interview with Melissa Hobley - the Chief Marketing Officer for Tinder.

She expresses how she 'moonlights' as a matchmaker, outside of her day job for one of the biggest dating apps, and believes in the power of putting away your phone and making real-life connections to find a partner.

I particularly loved her quote about why she feels matchmaking works - it sums up the ethos of our matchmaking service here at Bowes-Lyon :

"We’re not great at knowing who is a good fit for us. Even people who think they are open aren’t really open. We’re too quick and too judgmental.
But other people can be more open-minded for you, and I think that’s why matchmaking works."

We had a strategy day in the office with the team today. I always forget the value of these focus days. We work together as a team every week, usually in our office, but it’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day running of things so, we ensure we block out a day every 6-months where we just get together and talk business, strategy, marketing and have a good old brainstorm and……these days are invaluable. I’m always so blown away by the passion, dedication, loyalty and enthusiasm of my fantastic little team.

Why are fewer women using AI than men? The use of artificial intelligence appears to have a significant gender imbalance.

A really interesting read about online dating from the male perspective. Lots of very good pointers, guidance and advice for people who are newly embarking on the dating scene, after the breakdown of a long-term relationship/marriage.
