IMPORTANT EMAILS FROM SPOONFEST
(Ticket holders will receive the first email this afternoon)

Last chance to order T-shirts (they won't be for sale in Edale), order via tito, link is on the Spoonfest website.

This year, we are pre-selling evening meal tickets. You will not be able to purchase these meals on the day – they must be pre-booked via Tito by Sunday 30th June price £25. Link on the Spoonfest website

The food we will provide for the three evenings will be:

Red lentil Tarka Dal, with onion baji (made with gram flour), crunchy fresh vegetable slaw, minty coconut yoghurt.

Chipotle Pinto bean stew with sweetcorn, guacamole and corn chips.

Vegetable Thai Red curry, with courgette pakora (made with gram flour), carrot and coriander slaw.

All served with Rice.

We will have a baps available from mid-morning, We expect to have fillings like bacon, cheese & pickle, houmous & beetroot. Price £4, to be paid on the day.

Other options:

We have volunteers who do a pizza oven. All the profits from this go to charity. We tend to make around 80 pizzas a night but with 300 odd people on-site, we can’t feed everyone this way. So, if you want to be sure of an evening meal on-site, your best option is to buy a food ticket.

There's also two pubs that are no more than a 10 min walk from the festival site, Rambler Inn and Nagshead, both serve food and have good information on their websites about food serving times and menus.

Obviously, many people thrive on pot noodles or even their own masterchef set up at their tent, please be safe and cause no damage to the grass.

For those of you that need food first thing in the morning, we’ve heard folks have had great success bringing their own muesli & oatmilk.

If you ask ten people what the heart and soul of Spoonfest is, you'll likely get ten different replies! No doubt the Spoonfest Troubadours are a massive highlight of the event and bring about some big dance energy to reinvigorate the spoonies mid fest.

Lots of movement on the waiting list, where plonkers who panic bought 6 tickets realise their friends already snapped some up lol, most resales will happen in the next few days then there'll be a trickle between now and July.

Gentle reminder that we don't allow resales after the beginning of July, this is just because they don't work (no one buys last minute) and it causes a massive headache for the organisers who are often in a field with no reception.

It is such a wonderful feeling getting a random crowd together in a field, all totally hyped about the days ahead, the aim - to get as many people as possible to get the biggest buzz from it to carry them through to the next one!

Respect is a fundamental value at Spoonfest, we want Spoonfest to be a safe space where individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and marginalised groups, can come together all for the love of spoons.

In maintaining a positive atmosphere of mutual respect, we reserve the right to deny access to anyone whose presence may jeopardize the enjoyment of others.

Anna Casserley will be returning to Prefest this year, a fantastic course designed for efficient carving for those interested in improving their output or saving their joints!

Anna is a third generation Spooncarver, in fairness her parents sadly fell to the dark side in the end and became potters, but they often say the best genes skip a generation!

Head over to Spoonfest.co.uk to check out the other available prefest classes, they go on sale Saturday 2nd March.

Calling all Spoon teachers/instructors/facilitators!

I'm organising a group of us at Spoonclub to provide a way for us all to be better teachers, this will be a way of sharing techniques and discussing everything around how we teach, from the very specifics of first aid kits and risk assessments to what are the best axe block designs for a travelling spoon teacher, all the way through to marketing your classes and how to be inclusive. This will be a mixture of regular online events with different folk sharing their experience in an interview style or small groups, plus open discussions with larger groups.

If you want to join do get in touch via DM or email us over at [email protected] and I will be in touch in the coming days.

Please tag folk you think might find this useful.

17th New Skills

We've been unlucky with our house - naive first time buyers we bought an old house that we thought just had a shoddy bathroom and kitchen that needed renewing. As soon as we moved in the painted over cracks started to reveal themselves sadly since then we've just uncovered more and more problems starting with no drainage or foundations, the roof is rotten and not at all watertight, the best walls need cement render coming off, the worst walls are basically crumbling and need rebuilding, I know this is going to sound ridiculous we've managed to buy a house with no window sills! Quoted £3500 per window by a stonemason to restore (i don't think that includes the window) Not too mention the plumbing and electrics issues and don't get me started on the 3 rotten chimneys lol.

I guess I always wanted to build a house! If you have any timber trees you might donate to the cause I would be very grateful, this year I have been learning some carpentry skills I hope to get planning permission to start again and dig foundations, with the plan to restore what we can and timber frame the rest, we may still decide to sell if we can't make it work financially, but I'll be damned if I'm going to paint over the cracks and try to decieve a new buyer. I have to say there have been many sleepless nights worrying about rooves caving in or chimneys falling down, I can't imagine what it must be like worrying about bomb raids. Bearing witness to so much suffering in the world right now has certainly put in to perspective the minor concerns I have in my life.

16th December Community

There's so many types of communities based around craft, it's an encouraging sign that these keep growing, places like North House are completely invaluable for this, not least because they are able to enable community with layers and depth that are very difficult create around individual people or other entities like craft shops or festivals. North House supports local folk doing workshops, residential students doing long courses with a career in mind even helping to engage mentors outside of the school, as well as supporting people like me to travel and meet spoon carvers and other like minded crafts folk that I otherwise wouldn't meet, and North House also collaborates and shares notes with other incredible craft schools like Saterglantan, these connections help keep the fabric of such a precious part of culture alive. One of the evenings during Wood Week, Paul Linden organised a "bring and share" it was a really special time folk took in turns to talk about objects they had with them and pass the artefacts around the circle. The spoon on the left was made by The Wille Sundquist no less which folk were so pleased to get their hands on, I was also so pleased to have brought a nice selection of Spoons made by some of the best UK makers as I felt like in some way I was representing the UK spoon scene, some of these spoons are in this photo, the first to guess in my comments the makers of the three spoons on the right will win one of my fig shaped spoons.
