Middle Lane Market

Finally we can announce something we have had in the works for a few months: this autumn we are opening a neighbourhood wine bar / shop very near to Harringay Station, in the loveliest shop space at 42 Quernmore Road (our neighbours will be .london among a few other independent businesses). Many more details coming soon, follow along at to stay up to date.

In the meantime, here's the long story of how it happened:

On a Sunday evening in early June, we were walking together with most of our staff after we'd closed the shop and were heading home to ours for a staff BBQ. On the way, we walked down Quernmore Road and saw a 'For Rent' sign in our favourite shop front on that road. In the last couple of years, Andrew and I had looked at a few other shop spaces for a second location, but nothing had felt right and I had said to Andrew only a couple days before, 'We have enough on our plates right now, let's stop looking.' 

Despite that, this was a rare opportunity on a street we loved, in an area we loved (we used to live on Nelson Road) so we were excited, and encouraged us to pursue it. Eva also put us in touch with some lovely people to help us visualise the space we wanted to create - more to share about all of that soon, but for now we want to appreciate that Eva has really encouraged us along during this lengthy process, always bringing creative ideas, so many things we would have never thought about, and, obviously, we can't say enough good things about her! She has been such a huge part of Middle Lane Market and we are so grateful to know her, professionally and personally.

OK, the 4th photo is a sneak peak at 's work on the logo - we can't wait to share more with you soon! She is so talented and has exceeded anything we could have hoped for.

The last photo is right after I'd collected the printed copy of the lease in Crouch End. I was on the way back to Middle Lane to have my signature witnessed, and then back to Crouch End to give it to our solicitor, when luck would have it I ran into so we signed it right then. Contd below

Mont d’Or is back! One of our seasonal favourites, amazing baked but also delicious as is. Try it with a nutty Chardonnay, a crusty loaf and lots of cornichons, perfect autumnal feasting.

Today marks 5 years since we opened the doors to Middle Lane Market!

We will be sharing wines and stories from Burgenland, Styria and Kamptal. Expect to learn about the wines and producers while enjoying 5 tasting glasses, showing a range of styles from different producers. Link to sign up in bio.

With our 5th birthday coming up in just under a month, we finally updated the 'about us' section of our site and also with an up-to-date photo (many thanks to )!

It's amazing to think back about everything that has happened in the last 5 years. We wouldn't be here without our amazing team and all of our amazing customers ❤️

We've got a few things in the works to celebrate our upcoming birthday and hopefully a fun announcement coming soon. In the meantime, we are full of gratitude as we look back, and excitement for what's still to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

.shearer recently had the chance to visit several winemakers in Austria, thanks to . There will be more to share soon about the trip - we're planning to do an Austrian tasting for our next event because Andrew fell in love with the landscape and the gorgeous wines.

In the meantime, this weekend we're sampling and pouring by the glass Grüner Veltliner Handcrafted. We think this wine shows so much of the beauty of Austrian wine - and at such a great value! Hope you enjoy it too x

We're looking for a part-time Shop Assistant, ideally to start in July (but we can be somewhat flexible on the start date), but availabillity on Saturdays and/or Sundays is essential.

As we do quite a few things in our little space, we're looking for someone with previous experience in one of the following areas (we will provide training on the rest):

- making barista coffee
- selling cheese
- selling or working with wine in some way

Today starts our extended summer hours! With longer daylight hours we are staying open later on Friday and Saturday evenings for you to enjoy a drink or two and a nibble on our terrasse.

On Fridays we are now open til 8pm and on Saturdays we are now open til 7pm.

We are giving away 2 tickets to our Water Kefir Workshop on Thursday 9 May from 8 PM to 9:30 PM - more details below!

Water kefir is a fermented drink made with a culture called tibicos. In this workshop, you will learn how to make water kefir, seeing the first & second fermentation stages. You'll flavour your own batch of water kefir & enjoy a couple of kefir 'mocktails' with lots of ideas for serving. Throughout the evening, we'll keep you fed with nibbles and you'll also get to take home a jar with your own tibicos & bottle of flavoured kefir so that you can continue brewing at home.

We are so pleased to have Kirkham’s Lancashire back in our cheese case after a precautionary recall in late December. After extensive testing, the cheese has been proven as safe. It is now the last remaining raw milk farmhouse Lancashire to exist - and long may it! We’ve all been enjoying Kirkham’s Lancashire sandwiches for lunch this week - delicious on its own or with the hot cross buns that’ll be arriving soon…

In our next monthly event, we will be tasting 4 wines and 4 cheeses that are perfect for the start of spring.

Thurs 25 April: Georgian Wine Tasting
Georgia is widely considered the birthplace of wine. In this event we will be looking at five different wines from new & old producers, showing a range of styles from this fascinating country.

We have some beautiful valentine’s bouquets available in store that you can pre-order online too. We will be having flower deliveries until Wednesday so come on by to get some for your loved ones or yourself!🌷

We’re hosting a kefir workshop on the 29th of February! During which we will show you how to make and flavour kefir like we do here at Middle Lane Market! You will take home a bottle of kefir that you’ll flavour here from an array of seasonal juices, plus a jar of your own kefir grains to continue making your own kefir at home!
