Caroline Lucas

MP for Brighton Pavilion and former co-leader of the Green party

The last thing our flooded country needs right now is a climate-wrecking Bill to expand oil & gas production

It's a political stunt from a desperate prime minister and sends a dangerous signal to other countries of a UK doubling down on the fossil fuel economy

I'll be voting against it tonight

Just before Christmas I visited St Bartholomew's Primary School in my constituency which the council is threatening to close.

It was so moving speaking to parents, staff and children at this amazing school which supports such a diverse group of children - it needs to be saved!

If you have a few minutes this week please do watch their video and sign their petition here 👇

It’s been a tough year for so many, with Govt chaos making it even worse - from cuts to climate u-turns to ripping up refugee rights.
Here’s my end of year message with your fab candidate to be next Green MP for Pavilion.
Here’s to a greener, fairer New Year

24/12/2023

And on the last day of my Greetings card competition, we have the winner – Lara age 8. Her vibrant pavilion scene packed with complimentary colours feels like an apt choice for the winner of my last greetings card competition as MP for Brighton Pavilion.

A heartfelt thanks to all of the children who entered – it has been a delight to look through all of the designs produced by the talented young artists in my constituency.
Season’s greetings to you all and a Happy New Year!

23/12/2023

On the penultimate day of sharing some of my favourites from this year’s Greetings card competition, here’s the second of this year’s runners up! I love the detail in this festive scene, even the way the door warps through the snow globe. Congratulations to Olivia.

22/12/2023

On day 22 of my Christmas card competition, we’ve got one of the brilliant runners up. In third place this year is Aymaan, age 6. The brightly coloured tree and festive lights brought a smile to my face!

21/12/2023

Starlings over the West Pier is one of the many magical things that happen in Brighton – I love how Lily-Rose, age 12, has captured this murmuration which spells out “Merry Eco X-mas!”

20/12/2023

An entry from Isla for day 20 of the Greetings card competition. Another masterpiece of the Pavilion from which my constituency takes its name. Isla has really captured the lighting which decorates the Pavilion at this time of year as people skate around the gardens on the ice rink.

19/12/2023

This entry was so close to being a winner this year! Isn't it beautiful? I love the colours and composition of this one from Mazigh, aged 8!

18/12/2023

Another gorgeous winter scene at the Royal Pavilion, this one from Huda age 10. Looking at this design for my card competition I can picture the Pavilion Gardens covered with snow!

17/12/2023

For day 17 of this year’s Greetings Card competition - a vibrant design by Leo here! Just look at all that colour and movement.

16/12/2023

For day 16 of this year’s Greetings card competition we have this lovely design from Eliana. What a happy little reindeer!

15/12/2023

Another completely different approach for on this design for my Christmas card competition, by Ibrahim. What Brighton landmarks can you spot in this unique design?

New minister for disabled people will combine role with other duties 14/12/2023

I’ve been pushing the Government to appoint new Minister for Disabled People - so I'm shocked to learn they're scrapping it. Disabled people need their *own* Minister to address challenges, discrimination and to champion their rights & all they have to offer.

Such a shocking downgrade of representation & at time of such hardship. So shameful.

New minister for disabled people will combine role with other duties Campaign groups have described the move as treating disabled people "like they don't exist".

14/12/2023

On day 14 – this Season’s Greetings card entry is from 7-year-old Jewel. A very smart-looking dog in Christmas hats. Very creative and an office favourite! Hope you enjoy it too.

13/12/2023

A classic festive scene from 10-year-old Saif. Some lovely bold colours in this one on day 13 of my Christmas Card competition.

This week Brighton & Hove Food Partnership are teaming up with Community Base and others for a food donation drive. The aim is to reach 1,000 donations by this Friday in order to help feed hungry families in & . If you can spare anything this week, please do help out - details below 👇

Day 12’s entry to my Christmas card competition - by Youlius, aged 8. This one reflects how some of us are feeling as this year's COP28 climate summit draws to a close…

'Rotten to the core Rwanda Bill is performative cruelty of dying Government' 12/12/2023

I'll be voting against the Govt's morally bankrupt Rwanda Bill this evening, as no amendment can improve something that is rotten to its core.

It's a doomed and draconian attempt to reassert the PM's fragile claim to non-existent authority - but it has deeply serious consequences, and sets an extremely dangerous precedent for democracy & justice.

My article for The Mirror 👇

'Rotten to the core Rwanda Bill is performative cruelty of dying Government' Green Party MP Caroline Lucas says Rishi Sunak's desperate bid to push through the Rwanda plan in spite of a Supreme Court ruling that it is illegal represents a 'grim slide into authoritarianism'

11/12/2023

As we enter the last week of school term, today's entry for my Christmas card competition – by Kajus, aged 10 – involves some festive maths!

10/12/2023

Today's Christmas card design, on day 10 of my competition, is by Evi, age 7. A fabulous Christmas tree on this one.

09/12/2023

I loved this cat themed Christmas card competition entry from Hope age 6 – it's always amazing to see the many different ideas that Brighton’s young artists come up with for this competition!

It sounded like Boris Johnson said 'sorry' but he was just passing the buck 08/12/2023

Boris Johnson’s appearance this week shows that his Govt’s Covid response was always someone else’s fault and never his own.

His arrogance & complacency, total inability to understand detail and failure to follow the science proved his fundamental dishonesty & unsuitability to lead. We can't have another Prime Minister like him again.

My latest column for Metro 👇

It sounded like Boris Johnson said 'sorry' but he was just passing the buck This week’s evidence session shows he clearly thinks that his Government's response to Covid was always someone else’s fault and never his own.

08/12/2023

Here we have a wonderful entry from my Christmas card competition from 10-year-old Olivia – I love the bold Christmas tree and very neat snowflakes!

07/12/2023

On day 7 of my Christmas card competition entry we have this gorgeous winter scene of the Royal Pavilion in the snow. A beautiful piece of art from Xanthe, age 10.

06/12/2023

Beautiful beach huts for today’s Christmas card entry – instantly recognisable as Brighton and Hove! I love the pastel colours in this piece, by Jeon age 11.

05/12/2023

On Day 5 - the cold weather has me drawn to this entry to my Christmas card competition, by 7-year-old Matteo! A very dapper snowman.

04/12/2023

A quintessential Christmas card for Day 4, this beautiful entry to my card competition is by 9-year-old Lily. Love it!
