32 new UK Openreach exchanges listed for Fibre switch.

Openreach has announced the Tranche 10 batch of 32 exchange areas where they plan to advance from old analogue phone services to a new full fibre network, which will also happen once over 75% of households & businesses in each full fibre area can get Ultrafast broadband. (FTTP and G.fast at 300Mbps+).

The migration process away from these older services will begin with a “no move back” policy for households & businesses connected with FTTP, which is then issued with a “stop-sell” of copper services to new customers. There is a 12 month notice period before this starts. The notice had been given on 13th October 2022.

Finally, this is then followed by a final “withdrawal” phase. (Which you can read more about further down).

At this current moment in time, Openreach are preparing to completely shut down and withdraw older analogue serviced in two trial areas. That being Salisbury and Mildenhall. Openreach have notified ISP's that the services named will be fully withdrawn in Spring 2023. But, many more will pursue in their footsteps, including those in the list below list.

The 32 exchanges named (287,000 premises) rallies up the current figure of exchange 'fibre' upgrades to 672. That's a whooping estimate of around 5.9 million premises. The “stop sell” in these areas will be introduced from 1st November 2023.

Find out what withdrawal means in relation to the PSTN Switch Off.

The PSTN Switch Off is something you’ll have no doubt heard about already. However, if you’re still unsure about what’s happening, we’re here to help you understand.

By December 2025, the traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) will be switched off. By then, all services must move to IP or mobile based products such as hosted voice, direct routing or another alternative.

Despite 2025 seemingly a while off yet, Openreach has announced some of its products will experience withdrawal in the coming years as it gears up to upgrade the country’s digital infrastructure.

Two pilot exchanges were announced a couple of years ago with Salisbury and Mildenhall the chosen destinations for the trial. Salisbury will be the first city to have full fibre coverage and, therefore, had a stop sell in December 2020 with the complete withdrawal of the PSTN in December 2022.

Mildenhall is following a similar pattern with a stop sell announced in the Suffolk town set for May 2021. Again, services will experience complete withdrawal in December 2022.

However, Salisbury and Mildenhall aren’t the only UK locations to be facing huge changes to its digital landscape. Three tranches have been announced by Openreach, with a further 219 exchanges facing changes within the next months and years.

Openreach is upgrading another 117 exchanges by June 2021 and stop sell notifications for those affected areas were issued in June 2020. There has also been a second lot of exchanges announced which will be upgraded by October 2021.

The third tranche will be announced in due course. If you’re interested in finding out whether your area is full fibre enabled, give us a call on 0333 456 0476 or message us and we will check for you.

With UK inflation rising at its fastest rate in 30 years, we’re all feeling the pinch. As businesses face higher bills and supply costs, we know how important it is to make savings where you can. Here we’ve put together some tips that can save you money with technology.

Say goodbye to standby

Leaving electronics on standby does make life easier but switching equipment and appliances off at the plug when they aren’t being used could mean significant savings. In offices, turning computers and monitors off at night could save £35 a year per desk. You also won’t just be saving money, you’ll be helping to save the environment. So switch off those monitors, printers, and the microwaves in the kitchen when they aren’t being used. If you find your business struggling with energy bills, Ofgem may be able to provide support.

Make business SIMple

Want to make savings on your business’ mobile fleet? There’s a good chance you could be getting more for less by switching to a SIM only contract. We have a range of deals offering unlimited minutes and texts along with a data plan to suit you. Starting at £8 per month, our 5GB deal ensures you only pay for what you need. Or you can get 10GB for only £10 per month. If you’re still in need of something more, our Unlimited data deal is only £14.50 a month. Interested in one of these deals? Please reach out to our sales team on 0333 456 0476 for more details.

Save money on your telecoms

Despite prices rising across the board, you may still be able to lower your telecom bills by switching suppliers or by speaking to your current suppliers about alternative deals. As an independent provider, our partner, Daisy Communications work with all the major telecom networks and suppliers. Not only can we cover all of your telecom needs, but we can also get you a great deal while doing so.

Review your software subscriptions

Now’s the time to reassess your business’ subscriptions. Are your teams making the most of the software you’re signed up to? If not, it may be worth unsubscribing or moving to cheaper or free versions. At the same time, you could also look into free tools and software that will give your business a boost, such as email marketing or social media scheduling platforms.

Lights off

It’s not unusual to see office lights left on at night. But did you know that leaving the lights on overnight in a typical office wastes enough energy to heat water for 1,000 cups of tea? That’s a huge waste of energy, which also means a waste of money. Remember to switch off the lights when they’re not needed or install automated lights that will do it for you. Switching to energy-efficient LED light bulbs will also reduce energy costs and come with the benefit of needing to be replaced less often.

Rising costs are the last thing any business needs after the past two years, but there are ways to ease the impact. If you’re after better deals on your business communications, please get in touch to find out what we can do for you.

The way we do business has shifted dramatically over the past two years. With hybrid working here to stay, we’re more flexible, collaborative and connected than before. There’s plenty of benefits that come with remote working, such as giving us more control over our time, our money and the way we work. However, a lot of us are still facing the same struggles with bad audio. With the right solution, we can make this a thing of the past.

1) It costs businesses

Ipsos and EPOS conducted a global study of audio solution end users to find out about their experiences. This study found that 63% participants face issues on a regular basis during business conversations due to poor sound quality. The most common problems are background noise and interference on the line. With virtual meetings now being the cornerstone of many businesses, it’s clear to see how this statistic will impact productivity.

Due to poor sound quality on voice calls, the average audio solution end user loses 31 minutes per week, and 15% of participants in the Ipsos and EPOS study reported losing a key piece of work due to poor sound quality – resulting in a financial loss to the company.

2) It harms customer and client relationships

As virtual meetings are the new normal, we have come to expect them to run smoothly. However, the realists among us know that’s not always the case. Just think of all the times you’ve had to say, “you’re on mute”!

While many people remain sympathetic to audio hitches, 17% of audio solution end users believe poor sound makes them appear unprofessional, 20% said bad audio led to dissatisfied clients and 13% said it has even cost them clients. Reliable audio technology gives companies a competitive advantage by allowing them to appear more professional and efficient, allowing them to elevate their customer experience.

3) It’s bad for employees

As well as leaving customers dissatisfied, poor audio also causes frustration for employees. The Ipsos and EPOS study found that 26% of employees are left feeling irritated or annoyed by bad audio and 19% have experienced moments of stress because of it, worrying about misunderstandings or missing important information.

The less time and energy employees have to expend on fixing audio issues, the more they can spend on working and collaborating, so it’s important for businesses to invest in fit-for-purpose audio solutions. Providing quality solutions also shows that a business invests in its staff, helping to boost employee retention.

Bad audio is truly bad for business, especially given the modern way of working. However, with high quality audio solutions, it’s easy to create the optimal working set-up for all employees, regardless of location. We offer a range of EPOS headsets and speakerphones, so you can be sure nothing gets missed.

🚀 Upgrade to VoIP and discover the benefits.

You might have heard the words Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) being spoken about over the last few years. But do you know what it is, what it does or how it can be beneficial to your small business?

🤔 What is VoIP?

VoIP is simply new technology. It’s a new phone system which works over the internet.

Traditional phone systems, known as PBX systems, use the copper wires which have been in place since the 1800s. However, a VoIP solution has moved with the times and instead uses the internet to make your calls, making them clearer and more reliable.

To upgrade your phone system to VoIP, you’ll need to check your internet connection can handle your voice calls as well as your data. With ultrafast broadband or a leased line solution, you should have more than enough to keep you online and keep you talking to your customer, suppliers or colleagues.

In 2025, the traditional phone lines are being switched off which will, in turn, make traditional PBX systems defunct. If you’ve not upgraded to VoIP by then, you won’t have a phone line in place in 2025. By upgrading now you’ll not only avoid the panic buying when 2025 looms nearer, you’ll also be able to take advantage of the benefits of VoIP to help you stay ahead and even overtake your competition.

🤷 Why does your small business need a VoIP system?

✅ Mobility:

With a VoIP system, your options to go mobile will open up. Your employees can choose between using their desk phone or, if they’re out of the office and working in the field, their mobile phones instead. In a small business, missing calls isn’t an option and it doesn’t have to be with a VoIP solution.

The mobility of a VoIP system is also essential in the case of bad weather or an office disaster. If your office is unreachable or gets damaged for whatever reason, you’ll still be able to answer and make calls through your mobile.

✅ Future-proofing:

In 2025, the traditional PBX systems will be defunct. This means traditional phone lines will no longer work and you’ll be unable to make any calls. However, changes will be happening from 2023 as, after that date, businesses won’t be able to buy new lines on the PBX network. Therefore, by upgrading your phone system to a VoIP system, you’ll be futureproofing your business and you’ll be geared up for the switch off.

✅ Less downtime:

As the traditional phone lines run over copper wires, there’s more chance of downtime. Copper wires can be prone to weathering and degradation over time. For a small business, there’s nothing more costly than missing phone calls and potential opportunities. With a VoIP solution, you no longer have to rely on copper wires. Instead, your VoIP system sends your voice calls down the same cables your broadband uses, making your calls even more reliable and crystal clear every time. You’ll be impervious to bad weather or broken and faulty phone lines; the agile VoIP system won’t succumb to a bad gale or be cut off when there are works in the road outside.

✅ No maintenance costs:

When a PBX system goes down, you could face expensive maintenance costs and a costly charge for an engineer to come out and get you back up and running as quickly as possible. However, you can cut your maintenance costs when you switch to a VoIP solution as you can fix most of the issues yourself using the online portal. What’s more, with a VoIP phone system you’ll also be able to ring your provider and they can remotely diagnose and reconfigure your system and repair where needed. Updates and patch installations can also be done from the online portal remotely, again saving time and money on engineer visits as well as saving costs on avoiding future problems.

There’s plenty of reasons why a small business should be looking at investing in a VoIP system and, in addition, plenty of benefits they’ll gain from upgrading to VoIP.

Here’s what to expect with Apple’s latest iPhone 14 models!

The countdown has officially started for the highly anticipated release of the latest iPhone 14 models. This is why we are here to gently ease you into the launch with what you can expect to witness with Apple’s latest addition to its iPhone empire. With a selection of rejuvenated colours, ground-breaking emergency software, and an updated camera lens, here is everything you will want to know about your new smartphone.

If purple is your colour, it’s your year!

You don’t need to be a dedicated Apple enthusiast to know that their handset line-up features an exclusive new colour every year. This time round, it is safe to say, the “deep purple” is the talk of the town (or in Apple’s case the world). The only limitation is that the new shade will only be available for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro model. But that doesn’t mean you can’t delve into another new shade. The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 model will come in five stunning colours: Midnight, Starlight, Elegant Purple, Product Red and “a new shade of blue”. Alongside the deep purple, the other iPhone 14 Pro shades will consist of Silver, Gold and Midnight Black. What are you leaning towards?

This smartphone will save your life.

One of the most revolutionary features that has been introduced with the iPhone 14 (or perhaps in any commercial smartphone previously) is the added ‘Emergency SOS Crash Detection’ software, available in all four iPhone 14 models. The title says it all, but to set the scene, here is why it’s a phenomenal creation by Apple. If someone has been in a car accident and is knocked unconscious, the phone will instantly detect the force of the trauma and transmit an SOS to the emergency services to send out assistance to your location. Secondly, we have to mention the ‘satellite communication’ feature that will give you the added security for when you somehow find yourself deserted and in a critical position. The magnificent brains behind this update have found a ground-breaking solution to provide your smartphone with a service range in the most isolated places on earth. It ingeniously works by instructing the user to point their phone at a communication satellite that is floating above the earth. It is impossible to know this simply by the naked eye, but Apple have you covered. The phone has a built-in detector that will advise you where to point your device. All you need to do is be outside with a clear view of the sky to connect to the satellite. You will also no longer have to send lengthy texts that would otherwise take a considerable amount of time to send. Instead, you will be able to simply press message options that have already been written out for you, allowing you to quickly inform the emergency services of the situation you are in.

The display just got bigger, and so did the camera (again).

Just when you start to think the iPhone camera can’t get any better, Apple are once again able to deliver. For the first time since its conception, the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models will be saying goodbye to the 12-megapixel sensor and incorporating a 48-megapixel in its place. The new camera will offer an improvement to the already impressive low-light photography feature with its new quad-pixel sensor that will offer a f/1.78 aperture and 24mm focal length in the main camera. The newly introduced and powerful A16 bionic chip goes hand in hand with the steady camera feature, allowing you to capture smooth shots whilst in movement. The cinematic mode on the iPhone 14 Pro can now also capture 4K resolution at both 30fps and 24fps to give you the sunning video quality you have been craving.

You can finally say goodbye to the notch on the display screen too as both the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models will no longer have this. Instead, you will have an animated tab, titled the “Dynamic Island” that will be the home for both the face ID component and front facing camera. However, the most thrilling aspect of this is its ability to showcase live activity from your widgets and control your music. In addition to this, the soon to be released IOS 16, will give you the option to enable the ‘always-on display’ which will alert you to important information and reminders without having to wake up the display and use up your battery life. There is also a ‘sleep state’ that will darken your wallpapers to use less battery power in general.

Low battery, what?

How would you feel if we told you, the iPhone 14 had 20 hours video playback (16 hours streaming), up to 80 hours audio playback and a faster charging capability? Would you believe it? Or how about if we said, the iPhone 14 Pro model had up to 26 hours video playback (20 hours Streaming), up to 100 hours audio playback and also an improved charging capability, would that grab your attention? I think you can see where we are going with this….

Take a breather, we know it’s a lot to take in.

We can feel your excitement emanating from beyond the screen. It is evident Apple have truly delivered on their ‘far out’ tagline and proven once again, they mean competition.

With that being said, what are you waiting for, pre-order your iPhone 14 now!
