It's nice to have something special in your yarn collection that is unique and all natural. Add a touch of personality to your knitting or crochet
Border Leicester fleece scarf with a layer of merino for the back... originally a creamy white, I used a dye bath of Dharma's yellow orange, navy blue, violet, and neon fuscia which resulted in the rusty hue I was looking for plus, the dyes struk the wool differently resulting in a multitonal finish. I used the trusted Polish 10% white vinegar spirit for my mordant and it did shrink by a couple of centimeters (as expected) because of the extra dry felting process I did to reinforce my sad attempt at wet felting π
I also used Herbal essences conditioner to finish π...it smells divine β€οΈ
For anyone interested in dyeing natural plant fibres (cotton, h**p, nettle etc) and cellulose fibres (viscose, rayon etc...) and does not have a colour wheel to hand.
Over the years, Dylon have removed many colours from their range leaving me to use the wide variety of colours in the Procion cold reactive range... but they're twice the price, different dye technique and and I never had the results I desired. Dylon can be mixed and here this cacao/rust colour which is deepening to a brown hue can be achieved using
Fresh Orange
Deep Violet
Ocean Blue
(In an 8 ltr stainless steel pan)
I used the entire pack of fresh orange then slowly added (by the teaspoon) deep violet, stirring to dissolve slowly on a low heat.
**It's useful to have a spare scrap of cotton to keep dipping the spoon in and drip on the scrap to see how the colour is changing***
Then slowly add in the Ocean blue, stirring and checking the colour change.
You may want to add in the recommended amount of pre- dissolved mordant/salt at this point, keeping the heat low.
I found in past times when I have achieved this shade, was using a ratio of 2:1 violet:blue. Keep that in mind when mixing and the result will be a colour unique and all your own β€οΈ

I consider myself extremely blessed to live in an area of the North West UK where there is so much diverse plant life, herbs and fruits aplenty.
There are so many medicinal plants and trees in a small geographical spot!
One such shrub is the salal plant which bears these beautiful juicy berries in late summer through to September(UK).
They're easy to identify once you see the berries and can be used alongside or instead of blueberries when a recipie calls for them. I made little cakes that are not overly sweet and have the perfect bite with zero bitterness or any crunchy textures I often get with some fruit cakes.
(Forage responsibly, never touch or consume anything you're not sure of)
Mugwort protection pendant β€οΈ
There is a lot to be said for the mugwort plant for she is revered for her magical energy and connection to the divine feminine.
She has been used for various things over the centuries gone by, including flavouring beer before hops was ever used!
Wise women and ancient healers of Europe during the times when our connection to nature was standard practice, would hand bunches of mugwort around the entrance and inside the home to ward off evil energies and bad intentions.
She is strongly associated with the womb, menstruation, childbirth, the moon, creativity, protection, divinity, third eye, psychic work, vivid dreams and astral projection.
These earrings are just so special I had to make them and put them in the shop quickly! I (and some help from the squirells) carefully foraged these empty beech nut husks from the most beautiful beech tree I ever saw.
I cleaned and carefully sterilised them with NO bleaches or nasty chemicals and couldn't have been more happy when I saw the results.
I want to pass the incredible energy of that magnificent beech tree on to everyone π³ π

βLet someone love you the way you are - as flawed as you might be, as unattractive as you sometimes feel, and as unaccomplished as you think you are. To believe that you must hide all the parts of you that are broken, out of fear that someone else is incapable of loving what is less than perfect, is to believe that sunlight is incapable of entering a broken window and illuminating a dark room.β
