DEF_Studio/ Green Roofs
With spring starting this week… here is a sneak peak at a green roof at one of our current residential projects.
Encouraging biodiversity on site, improving air quality and the thermal envelope of a building are all added benefits. They also look fantastic and are a lovely way to improve the connection between the building and the natural landscape.
We’ve seen a rising interest from our clients and are delighted to be incorporating these on many schemes during the early design stage(s) as a key part to our sustainability strategies.
These will continue to be a rising trend with the recent changes to Net Biodiversity Gains requirements in the UK and can only be a benefit to our villages, towns and cities.
DEF_061/ Key to our design process is testing multiple ideas in tangent to identify pros and cons of different proposals. This version focused on cutting and shifting the pavilion form to form two individual spaces, each with a different connection to the gardens.
Mid century inspired / Scandinavian interiors.

Contrasting yet sympathetic to the original property. The design utilised features such as concrete lintels from the existing property and translated these into key structural elements.

DEF_059/ Residential Development, South Manchester - Status: Tender
Our latest small residential development of 5no. units in South Manchester which was issued for tender at the end of September 2023.
The project took on an existing planning consent and provided an overhaul to the design through a material amendment and simple yet major design changes to the properties.

The Intensive refurbishment project focuses on multiple areas of the school with new welfare facilities and improved circulation as the primary focus of the design; improving the experience of the school between class time and catering for the current capacity of the school.
Who said toilets can’t be exciting.!

We always analyse a site during the initial design development stages to understand certain parameters and potential constraints. In this case the proximity to the neighbouring residential properties influenced the form of the building; creating a sculpted ground floor mass to fit into an awkward shaped site, whilst the first floor form steps back to maintain a desired distance from the houses to prevent overbearing.
The project creates a series of flexible teaching spaces and a prep kitchen to the existing academy; providing much needed additional school places in
Utilising a Structural Integrated Panel system (Sips) the project seeks to minimise time on site whilst promoting sustainable construction and improved thermal performance.
The project follows on from the award winning WaterShed project and intends to continue the development of the academy with a completion date set for Winter 2023.

The proposal includes 37 new bedrooms in a new residential wing (pictured) and new communal facilities and functions throughout.

DEF_051/ Plans for our bespoke home in Mellor.
The scheme is divided into two distinct ‘wings’ which respond to the site geometry and the daylight analysis on site to create morning and afternoon terraces on site.
A central atrium connecting the two sides of the property together features an imperial staircase, creating a sense of grandeur whilst bringing secondary light into the main living spaces during the afternoon.
Commencing stage 4 at present.
