Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) occurs when a person dies suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac event, but the exact cause remains unclear. 🫀

SADS is diagnosed when a post-mortem examination reveals no apparent abnormalities in the heart's structure, leaving the cause of death unexplained. 🚑

SADS is often the result of undiagnosed heart conditions such as:
- Long QT syndrome
- Brgada syndrome
- Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia
- Progressive cardiac conduction defect

Or can be caused by conditions that can cause very subtle changes to the heart that may be too small to be seen during the post-mortem, these include:
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- Dilated Cardiomyopathy
- Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy

By learning the signs, getting regular check-ups and spreading awareness, we can make a difference together. ❤️

If you are a defibrillator guardian, it is your duty to care for and maintain the defibrillator. A defibrillator is not just something you install and forget about, they must be looked after to ensure that if they are needed, they will work effectively.

Failing to do so can result in the loss of life.

In England, the average EMS response time is 8 minutes. Simply waiting for an ambulance is not an option, as for every minute that follows cardiac arrest without defibrillation, the rate of survival drops by 10%, so installing and maintaining a defibrillator has never been more important.

If you walk past a defibrillator that is showing as not being rescue ready, such as a red light, beeping, or not flashing green, please call 01629 710 128 immediately so we can contact the guardian.

Whilst the upkeep of a defibrillator is the guardian's duty, awareness and education are the public's.

What you can do as a member of the public:
- Learn how how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator.
- Educate others on the signs of cardiac arrest and how to help.
- Educate others on the importance of defibrillators and where to find them.

What can you do as a guardian:
- Register the defibrillator to The Circuit.
- Perform maintenance monthly.
- Spread awareness of the defibrillator's location.
- Educate others on how to use it.
