Our classrooms were fully prepared this morning to welcome our newest members of school into their Reception classes. We had a special gift from our schools PTFA for our parents too as we recognise that this is not only a big transition for the children but for the parents too. We had a fantastic first day and couldn’t be prouder of our new classes! 😊🌟

The children in Reception have worked really hard this week on completing our mini gardening project. They started the week by clearing the weeds from the beds and have then planted both beds outside the Reception classrooms with our beautiful flower donations. We would like to thank all our parents for their plant donations. I’m sure you’ll agree that this has transformed these two areas into a beautiful place for the children to observe and explore nature around them 🌺🌸🦋🐝🐞
Year 3 have been busy planting on our seedlings and checking out our local bug life.
In Reception we try to link our learning to children’s own exploration of the world around them 🌍 This enables children to make their own connections and links in their learning, across different areas of the curriculum🧩 During our maths lessons on 3D shape we have been exploring our outdoor and indoor environments becoming super shape spotters! 🔎

Continuing our theme of ‘how to stay healthy’ the children in Reception made their own lemonade. They were surprised to learn how much sugar goes into fizzy drinks to make them sweet enough to drink. Even so we still enjoyed sampling it! We have promised to brush our teeth well tonight!
We had some very colourful children sent home in Reception today! The children were not just ‘playing’ outside with the chalk but also developing their communication skills through discussions with their friends, their social skills through taking turns and developing their ideas with others, their fine motor and literacy skills through the marks they were making, their maths skills through the shapes and sizes they were drawing and talking about, their knowledge and understanding of the world by drawing familiar objects such as buildings and stars and their expressive art and design skills by exploring with colour and texture.
This week in Reception, the children have been learning how to stay healthy. We talked about healthy foods, exercise, how to wash your hands and why it is important to brush your teeth.
