Offering our families professional and affordable funerals
Can I ask a small favour if yous wouldn't mind could everyone please share this post for me 😊
What do you factor in when making the decision to choose a Funeral Director for your loved one?
It’s a difficult decision, particularly due to the fact you need to choose someone who will take the best of care of your precious loved one.
When choosing a Funeral Director, there are some things you might want to consider:
🔷 Is your Funeral Director local? We are proud to serve our local communities based in Byker and now Walker.
🔷 Does your Funeral Director really care? We really do care and are passionate about our work.
🔷 Is your Funeral Director truly independent and family run? Many national, corporate companies appear to be independent, keeping the name of the family who first opened it before they were bought out. Not always, but often, they are sales driven which is not what we are about. We are a truly family run and independent Funeral Directors.
🔷 Does your Funeral Director offer the best price without cutting any corners? We offer our families affordable and professional funerals without any compromise to the service provided.
🔷 Does your Funeral Director quote a price and stick to it? Did you know it’s against guidelines to “beat” or price match other Funeral Directors prices or try and undercut them in any way? The price we state on our posters/leaflets is the price you pay (*subject to change). If we did this in any other way it would be very unfair to charge one family one price and another family another price.
🔷 Is your loved one just a number? We are not sales people, we genuinely care and are passionate about our work and your loved one.
🔷 Does your Funeral Director have honest, genuine reviews? Check out our lovely, genuine reviews and the hundreds of thank you cards we receive from the families who have entrusted us to care for their loved ones.
✨✨We know it’s not always about price but we have done some research and checked some prices with other local Funeral Directors and some are almost double the price of what you would pay with us. You will still receive the same care and attention from ourselves with no comprise to the service you receive but without the huge price. ✨✨
At L&G Family Funeral Directors our price starts at £995 for a direct cremation. This ranges up to a deluxe funeral which includes a horse and carriage and 2 limousines (priced at £3995) which, again, is almost half the price to some local companies. We also support DWP claims.
At L&G Family Funerals our prices are not “from” our prices are shown in “total.”
💙💙We are passionate about looking after your loved ones and their families. Our family caring for your family.💙💙

Stunning flowers for the funeral of Diane Hedley today.
Red was the colour theme and although we didn’t get any photos of the staff we all wore red ties and the celebrant Ellie Shuker Funeral Celebrant even wore a red dress in tribute to Diane.
It’s the little touches that don’t need to cost the earth which can make such a difference to the families we look after.
RIP Diane ❣️❤️ ♥️
Deb has a special place in my heart. She worked with me for about a year. So happy and proud to see she’s opened up her own place.
L&G Byker are the only local and female ran funeral directors in the Walker and Byker area. More importantly, we are independent, not a bought out national company with only profit in mind.
💙💙💙Our family looking after yours 💙💙💙
More women urged to be funeral directors as female-owned business opens Deborah Mitchell got into the funeral directing business when she was asked to help out a friend for a year
Another few cards, this time wishing me well in my new premises in Walker. In my role I try and be kind to everyone I meet, even when going to the mortuary I treat the *staff with the utmost respect and I think the card from Jess really shows this. 🥰🥰
*Every department (bereavement staff, mortuary staff, staff at the coffin company, registrars, car hire company, crematorium staff, pall bearers, civil celebrants, humanists …. the list goes on) all play a role in providing for the bereaved and deserve the recognition.
And another 🥰🥰🥰
What a lovely, heartfelt review. Maria was such a young woman with her whole life ahead of her, so sad. It was an honour to take care of them all. It’s the little things us funeral directors do which brings so much comfort to families. I will keep on trying to be the best I can in my role.
💙💙

Another lovely card from one of my families 🥰
Did you know, Direct Cremation is not a service exclusively provided by Pure Cremation? I’m sure most of you would prefer to deal with a family owned, family run funeral directors who use a local crematorium for your loved ones cremation.
We have found a lot of families are choosing this service. We know it’s not for everyone but we also like to give people the choice.
Our Direct Cremation is £995, you won’t find cheaper in the local area.
You can pop in to see us any time to enquire or call us on 0191 6911395.

We have gained quite a few new followers in recent months so thought it would be good, for those who haven’t met me, to introduce myself.
I’m one of 8 children so, as you can imagine, I’m a proper people’s person and love being around others. I’m married with 2 lovely (yes I’m bias) children, a daughter whom has just recently flown the nest and a son who’s in his second last year at school. I don’t have lots of hobbies but my favourite thing to do, other than work, is reading, paddle boarding (when time allows) and going on holidays with my lovely family.
I first came into the funeral industry approximately 13 years ago when I became a Funeral Celebrant (similar to a humanist) which is a job I loved and still do, albeit very part time now.
During the pandemic I opened up L&G and can honestly say that it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I genuinely love what I do which I think shows with so many families thanking me for the service I’ve provided them and the many recommendations I get from word of mouth. I’m not perfect but I’ll always strive to be the best at what I do.
I was very surprised to find out in recent years that my late maternal great grandfather was also a funeral director. My nana used to tell my mam the many tales of her playing in his workshop as a little girl and climbing in and out of the coffins he made. I’m sure he would be proud to know his great granddaughter and his great grandson Nathan(my brother) have followed in his footsteps.
💙💙
Thanks to everyone who came today and all of the lovely cards and gifts. Means a lot!
My beautiful flowers from Claire Sproat. They match the colours so well!
On the eve of our opening day in Walker I would like to give a shout out to Claire Sproat.
I first met Claire after her dad sadly passed away and I’ve since did her uncle and nanas funeral. We always remained in touch and have since became good friends.
Claire has been so supportive of my business, always liking and sharing my posts and constantly advocating the business, my number one supporter! Today, she took a day off from her employment just so she could help me get all of the coffee/tea and cakes in for our launch followed by cleaning the full shop.
Thank you so much, it means a lot!
Here’s a sneak peak into how far we’ve came with our new funeral home in Walker.
So many beautiful flowers for Joseph. Let’s not forget about the amazing badge that sat proudly on the back window of the hearse on his final journey. So many black and white tops and an amazing turnout for such a loved man.
RIP Joe

For the mothers who have lost a child: this is for you on International Bereaved Mother’s Day ❤️
There’s an order that life is supposed to follow. An order of breaths we are supposed to take, as if we are passing a torch from one generation to the next.
And our torch is supposed to go out before our child’s flame is extinguished. We are supposed to watch them take their first breath. But not their last.
We are supposed to hear the thud-thud of their heart when it starts beating. But never the silence when it stops.
That heart that we once carried inside of us. That breath that we gave them. That life that we kept safe, protected.
So when the order of life is disrupted,
when their torch goes out before yours, it is as if you too have been robbed of your breath and as if your heart has stopped beating as well.
There is nothing that can make it less painful. You would blow out your flame if it meant theirs could burn.
But you can’t. Even though that’s how it should be. So all you can do is carry them inside you - like you did once before. Except now they have to stay in your heart forever.
And though it hurts, know that they are safe there. They are protected.
Because a mother’s love is unending.
Because it burns forever with every breath you take and with every beat your heart makes.
Because a mother’s love is a flame
that can never be extinguished 🧡

💙💙 May is Lupus awareness month. 💙💙
I have a good friend with this condition.
What is Lupus? It’s a condition that affects the immune system. It can cause problems with your skin, joints, kidneys and other organs. Lupus is caused by your immune system mistakenly attacking healthy parts of your body. It's not fully understood why this happens.
Symptoms of lupus include joint and muscle pain, extreme tiredness and a rash on your face.
There's currently no cure for lupus, but the symptoms can often be treated with medicines that reduce inflammation in your body, such as steroids.

A grieving mother with PTSD fell into a hole and couldn’t get out. When a family member walked by the grieving mother called out for help, but the family member yelled back, "Suck it up, dig deep and drive on," then threw her a shovel. The grieving mother did as she was told and dug that hole deeper.
A friend went by and the grieving mother called out for help again. The friend told her "use the tools your family has given you", then threw her a bucket. The grieving mother used the tools and she dug the hole deeper still and filled the bucket.
A psychiatrist walked by. The grieving mother called, “Help! I can’t get out!” so the psychiatrist gave her some drugs and said, "Take this. It will relieve the pain and you will forget about the hole.” The grieving mother said "thanks" and followed his advice, but when the pills ran out she was still in the hole.
A well-known psychologist rode by and heard the grieving mothers cries for help. He stopped and asked, “How did you get there? Were you born there? Did your parents put you there? Tell me about yourself, it will alleviate your sense of loneliness.” So the grieving mother talked with him for an hour, then the psychologist had to leave, but he said he’d be back next week. The grieving mother thanked him, but she was still in the hole.
Another Grieving mother, just like her, happened to be passing by. The grieving mother with PTSD cried out, “Hey, help me. I’m stuck in this hole!” and right away the other Grieving mother jumped down in there with her. The grieving mother with PTSD started to panic and said, “What are you doing? Now we’re both stuck down here!” But the other Grieving mother just smiled and replied, “It’s okay, calm down, I’ve been here before..... I know how to get out.”
No matter what you're going through, you are never alone. But don't be too proud to SHOUT OUT!, ‘HELP I'm stuck in this hole’ …...
We all get stuck in a hole from time to time but all it takes is to ask your fellow grieving mothers for help and we will be there even if we have to jump in that hole with you.
